Im sorry I have no pics, but here goes nothing.

I have a small scratch above the front right wheel, on the lip. Now its only about a 1/4 inch long but bothers the hell outa me.

So I went and got some scratchX from meg and worked the product in real good for about 5 to 7 minutes. I was only able to get about 30% of it out and saw that emmediatly after the first 2 minutes, after that nothing. So I washed it down and rewaxed it with pinacle.

Qustion is should I use more time with this and the scratch X or have I entered PC zone. I have been quite intrested in them but have yet to learn how one is properly used.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming you re-applied the stuff during that first 5 to 7 minutes...It may just take a good bit longer than what you did. With my car, it took me close to half an hour to get one long, but not deep, scratch out w/ Scratch-X. If you don't want a sore arm, though, like me, you should probably go for the PC and learn how to use it. That way, you'll almost always be able to fix the small stuff like this.

Can you feel the scratch? If you can feel the scratch, putting scratch-x on it will do absolutely nothing.

By hand Scratch-x doesn't do much more than fill swirls. By PC it has a "decent" polishing power.

I'd suggest you get a PC... if you want take a look at my other thread I started. That should be a reason enough to get a PC.

I'm sorry but that statement is false. Scratch X shouldn't be used with a PC because it gums up, and when you use it by hand it will take the cratch out but it will take a lot of effort. When using it on a hood the hood should bow in a bit under the force you're putting on it. This is what I was told/shown at the Meguiars clinic.

This is what I've learned through experience. All a PC does is take what you can do with your hand and times it by 20 or 30 in a second (not actual, just guess). I had far better results with PC + scratch x than hand + scratch x. It never "gummed" up on me either.

Well, usuing a polish made for a machine would work much better. Scratch X is made to break down alot easier than most machine polishes because it is meant to be applied by hand.

I've never applied Scratch X with a PC so all I can say is that Mike Phillips said it is not recommended because it can gum up.

Yea I won't ever use it anymore, and I'm not suggesting using it with a machine, I was merely pointing out it wouldn't have done much unless you used a machine - from my own personal experience.

I would definately recomend a better polish if he were to use a PC, IE menzerna, poorboys, FMII etc..

Have you considered filling the scratch with touch up paint and then stripping the excess and bumppiness with a product called Langka....if the scratch is deep it can be better sometimes to do the procedure I have described ...it takes multiple passes with the touch up paint and Langka but can make big long scratches virtually disappear...I think their web site is www.langka.com

Ive heard that Langka was more of a product for shows and what not? it only lasts a short period of time. Maybe im confusing this product with somthing else.

Ill check it out , thanks

Langka is a chemical agent that removes the excess paint thats applied when using touch up paint, it basically replaces wetsanding. It should last forever.

I bought the Porter Cable from www.coastaltools.com it comes with both counter weights, I'm using the one for the 6.5 inch pad.
