View Full Version : Possible DIY Saturday. My Place.
IslandS62 09-23-2005, 12:58 AM I am not sure how much help we will need, and I hate asking for help for myself, but I think Thrlls and I are going to try and do a diff. install on my car on Saturday. I am not sure how much time we will have for OTHER things, but if anyone wants to come by, they are welcome. I can fire up the grill :D
If you have not been here before, PM for address.
:cool
IslandS62 09-23-2005, 12:59 AM There are a few that I will EXPECT to see...you know who you are. :rofl j/k
thrlls 09-23-2005, 01:44 AM There are a few that I will EXPECT to see...you know who you are. :rofl j/k
I guess I'm one of them huh! :D
We will be doing the I.E. sub frame bushings too!
What time, 7:00? :D ...Oh wait the others...and you know who you are, may not be able to make it that early. However, if I bring my 318, I'll be able to pick up all 3 of them and they can sleep on the way there! ;)

Who might that be? I haven't been out of this house in 2 days and I'm going stir crazy. I got a flu shot on Tuesday and have been sick since then. And I'm waiting for my EVO airbox to come in for the M3 so I can get rid of that damned cone filter. 16s are back on and nicely polished and Bling Bling!
AthleticTrainer 09-23-2005, 01:46 AM Hey guys... hey Thrill -- Where do you guys live? I would like to join you guys.

You're welcome to come, but we're no where near Marin county! :D
IslandS62 09-23-2005, 01:48 AM If we're dropping the subframe, might as well! Do you have a big pipe to crack the diff. nut? I heard there is something under there attached with 300 lbs. of torque
AthleticTrainer 09-23-2005, 01:49 AM Heh WW.... oh well if I could Teleport myself.. I could eh? :)
thrlls 09-23-2005, 01:52 AM How astute of you! :D
You can't fool me!
IslandS62 09-23-2005, 01:54 AM You're welcome to come if willing to fly. I can't guarantee it will be worth your while though! :D
More stuff...I think we need an extra few jacks, and a 14mm hex for the diff fill bolts. I'm sure Renn has one.

K Funk 09-23-2005, 03:51 AM any chance you have a vice at your place? I could help out in exchange for the brief use of a vice. ;)
If not, then I can just help. I got an appt. at noon tho.
However, I do happen to have a full set of air tools that I could bring over if you want to break that 300 lb. nut free. :stickoutt ;)
The Beastmaster 09-23-2005, 03:56 AM I wonder where you got those air tools from? :D
K Funk 09-23-2005, 04:01 AM I wonder where you got those air tools from? :D
some dumbass left them at my house, so I declared them my property.
But if you wanna steal a set of your own, then maybe you better look around Island52's garage on Saturday. :shifty
The Beastmaster 09-23-2005, 04:06 AM He already has a set.
K Funk 09-23-2005, 04:10 AM He already has a set.
then maybe it wouldn't be good if you stole that set... :nono
IslandS62 09-23-2005, 05:40 AM holy full PM box. Heh...thanks everyone, I'm feeling the love, but 10 guys might be a bit of overkill! I am actually thinking that too many people would be a bad thing, however if you guys want to come by, I am buying some dogs to put on the grill.
Kfunk, sorry but I don't have a vice. I don't even drink! :D
I'll PM everyone back tommorrow.
sushipower 09-23-2005, 02:42 PM Will try and stop by tomorrow, what time?
IslandS62 09-23-2005, 02:46 PM You going to be the grill man?
I should be back by 8AM, and hope to have the car up on stands and wheels off by then. The work is probably 5 hrs. minimum, so anytime.
thrlls 09-23-2005, 04:21 PM you da man! :buttrock
I remebered I have something really early with Anna in the morning, but I should be done by 8am.

I'll be there around 8am, but I'll knock first! :rofl
IslandS62 09-23-2005, 04:46 PM I wish. Some work thing for her starts at 5:30am and she would like the Chauffer to be on duty. :eyecrazy

just ask beast, he's normally up around that time anyway. :D
CobaltFire 09-23-2005, 08:06 PM I'd love to stop by, and don't have much planned. If it will be too crowded though, I'll pass. I don't want to destroy your rep with the neighborhood!

The Beastmaster 09-24-2005, 02:17 AM What makes you think he has a good rep with the neighbors! :D
With all those cars, they probably think he's a drug dealer.
thrlls 09-24-2005, 02:20 AM Does anyone from the Eastside need a ride to the DIY tomorrow?
thrlls 09-24-2005, 02:22 AM With all those cars, they probably think he's a drug dealer.
You mean he's not!
The Beastmaster 09-24-2005, 02:22 AM I'll be at Owen's @ 1pm to go over the packet and credential holders...
thrlls 09-24-2005, 02:24 AM I'll be at Owen's @ 1pm to go over the packet and credential holders...
So I take it you'll be bringing your own car and leaving around 12:00 PM?
K Funk 09-24-2005, 02:28 AM I'll be at Owen's @ 1pm to go over the packet and credential holders...
You gonna be at Island's place earlier so I can give you back yer tools?
I might get over there around 8:30 or so, but can only stay till like 11:30 because I have a Dr. appt. in town at 12:00.
The Beastmaster 09-24-2005, 02:56 AM Nope. I'll get it AFTER Aloha 500 and AFTER you get that driveshaft of yours fixed.
thrlls 09-24-2005, 03:00 AM Nope. I'll get it AFTER Aloha 500 and AFTER you get that driveshaft of yours fixed.
I can bring it back for you if you like!
The Beastmaster 09-24-2005, 03:06 AM I can bring it back for you if you like!
Nah, it's not like I really need the stuff right now, and I want to make sure K Funk gets his car back on the road all proper.
K Funk 09-24-2005, 03:10 AM Nope. I'll get it AFTER Aloha 500 and AFTER you get that driveshaft of yours fixed.
dude, if you leave it until I get done with every project on that car, you're never gonna get it back. ;)
Honestly I usually don't like using air tools, too much power. Plus, I'm always conscious about pissin off the roommate, landlords, or neighbors with the noise. I'm trying to clear out my apt. so that it looks less like a garage. I figure I better take care of this place to make it up to my roommate after disturbing his studies with all the previous beatings on the BMW. :devillook
K Funk 09-24-2005, 03:12 AM for the list of upcoming projects: next comes the master cylinder, putting in a choke cable, tuning the carb some more, electronic ignition, then shocks and springs, then sways.... it'll never end, and I don't care. :stickoutt
The car is on the road fine now, but it can be better. :buttrock
The Beastmaster 09-24-2005, 11:04 PM So how did it go? I was hung over today. :( but I did make it to Owen's.
IslandS62 09-25-2005, 12:07 AM Tiring. Thrlls and I are wiped out (I think its safe to speak for him. We had lots of visitors throughout the day, but the two of us basically did it. Everything got done with just a little hiccup, and I have a fridge full of food that we did not have a chance to make...
Took the car out on H1 toward Pearl City and the car HAULS. Third gear is crazy! I think I burned 1/4 tank of gas in about 20 mins.

Better you than me! :D
thrlls 09-25-2005, 01:26 AM Well I just got home from taking the kids to a play at Fort Shafter, and dropping off the other one at Punahou for a football game at the stadium. Punahou is playing Kamehameha, should be a good game. Then I have to go and pick them up at 10:00...and I am beat, and my hands hurt!!
Hopefully I'll have enough energy to do my brake rotors/pads on my 318!
He, he! Glad to hear third gear is crazy!
I told you today, don't pay attention to the gas, you'll only get frustrated!
Is there any noise?
Now you need to find a nice stretch of road where you can run it up through all the gears. Just be careful you don't take flight! :buttrock
I guess we can say it's another successful DIY!
IslandS62 09-25-2005, 01:33 AM OMG...get some sleep! I know I am trying to. If you need help with the brakes let me know.
There is a bit more noise, but I think its the IE bushings and not the diff. Its no big deal. No leaks either.

All right :buttrock
As for my brakes, nah I should be able to handle....IF I muster up the energy to do it. Our bodies will be tired and hurting tomorrow...well at least mine will be! :(
The Beastmaster 09-25-2005, 02:37 AM I'm hydrating so I can go out later tonight.
thrlls 09-25-2005, 05:16 AM Well I just got home from picking up the kids, and now I can't go sleep.
Oh well, I guess I'll read my book!
Punahou lost by 10 pts. :(

I'm hanging today as last night was off the hook. Had fun hanging with bimbum. :redspot
thrlls 09-25-2005, 10:53 PM I just finished changing all my rotors and brake pads, took some pics. I'll try to download a few later. Now I need to go and bed the rotors & pads, then myself! Damn this was one monkey wrenching weekend!
I think my entire back is bruised as well as the back of my head from lying down on hard concrete!!
The Beastmaster 09-25-2005, 11:05 PM I'm messed up. :mad
thrlls 09-25-2005, 11:08 PM I'm messed up. :mad
Why, what's up?
Do you need help with something?
The Beastmaster 09-25-2005, 11:19 PM Why, what's up?

I feel miserable. Should not go out after having a mild case of the flu, eating chicken that you left out for 8 hours and then drinking.
thrlls 09-26-2005, 01:19 AM Well here's what the new rotors look like, and the tools I used to change them. It took about 5 hrs to do everything. Photos, remove brakes, install brakes, lunch, rest to cool off, and wash the wheels.
I just got back from the bedding session, and boy is it difficult to get 10 sets of 60mph - 10mph, let the brakes cool without using them for 15 - 20 minutes, and do 2 more sets of 10s!
I had to put gas when I was done!
The Beastmaster 09-26-2005, 01:35 AM JP is rubbing off on you.
thrlls 09-26-2005, 01:48 AM JP is rubbing off on you.

sushipower 09-26-2005, 04:56 AM Was that OJ's gloves? Cool rotors, how much?
thrlls 09-26-2005, 11:48 AM Was that OJ's gloves? Cool rotors, how much?
Can't remember the price, but it's the same price as Tire Rack's.
thrlls 09-26-2005, 11:54 AM cool...you definately kicked some butt this weekend, DIY wise...
Yeah, now I hope it will help a little on the track. However, on the track I think it's more the driver and not the car! :(
I meant the pretty pictures
Mahalo!
I used Nancy's new Sony Cyber-shot.
Astroboy 09-26-2005, 09:46 PM Just sorry i couldnt stay longer. you know how it is with a wife, 4 kids, 2 tuttles, 3 fish, 2 hermit crab, 2 dogs, and 2 cats :eyecrazy
Damn, I tip my hat to you sir. I think 2 kids are a handful, no way I could manage four and manage pets too... :eyecrazy
I told my kids, if we get a dog, we might forget to feed one of you...which one will that be?
