I'm normally a manual trasmission kind of guy, but I liked the 528i that I have enough that I was able to get over the fact that it's an automatic. When the car shifts up, it seems to shift very smoothly. This is normally a nice feel when you are all about comfort and luxury, but is not as nice of a feature when you want performance. I'm used to driving my dad's Volvo 850 that has a much harder shift feel to it that lets you know that it's IN the next gear now. Is there a shift kit available for the E39's that will give a more agressive shift? Is that what the Danin transmission software upgrade will do or is that more for changing *when* it will shift?

So, is it just normal for this transmission to have a smooth shift? Does the engine automatically reduce RPM to match the speed of the wheels so that you don't get that hard shift feel? Does anybody understand what I'm talking about?

Yeah that sounds about right.

If you don't like the auto you may as well just sell it for a manual.
