This car has had no previous problems until today. I went to a friends house and the gas light had come on during the trip, the computer said i've got about 21 miles to go so I figured i'd get gas on the way back. When I left to go home, the computer said 9 miles so I made my way towards a gas station, at 5 miles left...the car died. I tried to start it, died again, and again, then just wouldn't start up. I walked to the gas station about half a mile away, brought back gas, filled it up, had to try about 4-6 times before it finally started up and died. So I started it, hit the accelerator to keep it idle and made it to the gas station and filled up. I went on the highway, drove about 6 miles and took an exit, at the light, the car died. Now if I get to idle it just dies, but starts fine when I turn the key and hit the gas, if I let off the gas and rpm hits about 500...dies again. Any ideas? Did i suck up the gas tank crap and kill my fuel filter? Also, when i was on the highway, i hit about 70mph and when i let off the accelerator, the rpm did not drop as usual, it stayed up around the 3k level and slowly decreased rather than drop down about 1k immediately.

get a fuel pressure gauge and hook it up to the car, then tape it real good to the window, go out for a drive, and tell me what the readings were.

Is that one of the small circular gauges that they put in race cars or is this another type of gauge I can buy at the auto parts store? I've never done anything like this so I need a little explanation, sorry I know its hard to deal with the newbies.

Well, just got back from BMW, diagnosis is that I have a bad ICV (Idle Control Valve)...I spent four hours removing the part, cleaning it and reinstalling it, then went to the Dealer to find out the part is just bad not dirty. How did they figure it out....beat it with a hammer till the car would idle. They said I would have a check engine light if it were my CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor)

probably using a scan tool, and recording a movie when the fault occurs.
