View Full Version : Best price on car (willing to travel some)
mreloc 09-11-2005, 10:38 AM Looking to order my E90- always purchase my cars via internet searches for best price. Are there any known dealers that I should consider? I live in Michigan, but am willing to pick up car elsewhere if necessary.
Thanks
mose121 09-12-2005, 11:39 AM Tell me exactly what you want options wise and I'll quote you a price. Also, please tell me what color you want since metallic paint costs extra. We're located just outside of Pittsburgh, PA.

Base Price: $30,900
Destination: $695
Premium Package: $2,900
Cold Weather Package: $1000
Xenon Headlights: $800
Satellite Radio Prep: $75
MSRP: $36,370
Discount: $1,500
Sale Price: $34,870 + tax and title fees
Pricing is based off of the new September pricing. I did a locater search and no cars exist exactly the way you want. The search looks for all U.S. spec cars in dealer inventory, at the distribution center, at the vehicle port, on a boat coming over, produced but not shipped, in production, or in any dealers order bank/allocation in the counrty. Right now I have two specable cars that will go into production the third week of this month, and I have several in our October allocation. It generally takes 50-60 days from start of production until the car arrives at the dealership. Let me know if you're interested in doing anything. We can handle everything over the phone/fax up until vehicle delivery if you like. I also gave you a special "BF.c" discount and subtracted a bit more to try and offset your travel costs. ;)
mreloc 09-12-2005, 03:49 PM Thanks for the quote- sent you an email...
mose121 09-12-2005, 04:20 PM Hi-
Thanks for responding to my post. You mentioned that you couldn't find anything
exactly to my specs- I am flexible on interior color however.
So on a White 325, terra was my first interior choice, grey second. Maybe if
you see any of those, you could let me know what trims might be available on
searchable cars.
Again, other options I wanted were premium, xenons, cold weather, sat. prewire.
Your price is the best I've found so far- still waiting to hear back from a
couple of people.
I just revised the seach to include all interior colors with Alpine white and still nothing showed up like what you want. Most of the cars around are straight sport package cars, nothing else really on them. One thing that seems to be holding us back is the manual transmission. There are only 19 Alpine White manual transmission cars in or coming to the U.S. right now. About half of those are on the West coast, and many more are in the deep south. In the Central and Eastern markets, there are only 8 total manual Alpine White cars. Six of them are Sport package cars. The Popular wood option is not nearly as common as the standard wood. Xenons are another hard thing to find on the 325's. Most dealers don't order their stock cars with them.
It looks as if you will have to place an order to get close to what you want. Since you are selecting 3 options that aren't very common (manual/popular wood/xenons), finding even 2 of them on a car that already exists is proving to be tough. Also, please note that if dealers are quoting you prices on cars that were confirmed for production prior to July 20th, the base price is $600 cheaper than the numbers (sept. production) I was working with. The price went up $600 if things weren't ordered before 7/20/05.
mreloc 09-14-2005, 09:59 AM Thanks for the extra search. I don't mind ordering if necessary even if the wait will be what, 10-12 weeks? Curious- I've not bought a car from a dealer out of state before- how does the sales tax transaction work in that case?
I am in San Diego right now hoping to get a minute to check over some of the available interior combination options so I can make a final decision on what I can live with. So far in Michigan have only seen beige and black in person on the E90.

I'll have to check and see what we need to do for a MI resident. Probably the easiest thing to do is for you to take car of the tax when u get back. We can just put a temp plate on it, then you can register it once your home. I will check tomorrow, today is my day off.
Thanks

Forgot, it's about 50-60 days from the start of production until the car arrives at the dealership.

If you finance the car, you'll have to pay MI taxes to us as part of the finance deal. If you're buying it outright, you pay taxes when you register the car in MI. As stated before, we just put a temp plate on it and you take it from there.
mreloc 09-18-2005, 11:54 AM Great to know. I know I won't have a trade, but I may want to finance a small amount if the rates are good... I'm glad that you would be charging me the MI rate, so that seems straight forward enough- I just wonder how MI gets their $? Whatever- not too worried about it. I guess my paperwork shows the DMV that I paid MI tax even though it was out of state.
Still finalizing color combo's. Not feeling too comfortable about Terra/White without seeing it first- so I've been dive-bombing dealerships when I see one when I've been traveling for work.
jbnimble 09-20-2005, 09:44 PM I'm interested to see how this turns out for you Mreloc.
I'm living in Brighton, Michigan and I'm going to be looking at the 330xi when it comes out. Erhard is the local dealer for me.
My company gets a $1500 deduction on MSRP but from what I've seen on these forums that's pretty standard even for non-employees.
I'm considering 330xi w/ Cold, Premium and Sport packages.
Titanium Silver Metallic with Alum Trim.

banndit 09-21-2005, 10:40 AM One minor technicality,
California won't let you import a "new" car from another state. You have to hide it until you get 7-8k miles on it.

hmm...even if it's CA emissions legal? I think I can order a CA car. It's an option on the ordering guide.
BMW's have traditionally been 50 state legal.
You can DEFNITELY import a new car from another state. My friend got his M3 from NYC and had it shipped cross country. Went to the DMV and paid the taxes and registration.
banndit 09-22-2005, 05:58 PM yep, looks like the exemption just applies to cars that don't specify California Smog legal...from their website:
NOTE: California law prohibits importing and/or registering a new vehicle (one with less than 7,500 miles at the time of purchase) unless it meets or is exempt from California emission standards. If you acquire a 49 state vehicle (vehicle manufactured for all states except California) from another state or country and do not qualify for one of the exemptions, you cannot register your vehicle and must immediately remove it from this state. You may purchase a One-Trip Permit to do so.

I'm not sure if it applies to MY05- cars, but on 04's and back it lists CA emission on the vehilce history report for cars that are CA bound. I'm not sure if there's any physical difference in the cars, but maybe CA cars have to specifiy CA, even without any changes. One of those stupid paperwork deals.

Well, it looks like the lawyers at BMW were looking out for us. On the emissions label on an '05 325 conv, an '06 X5, and an '05 Cooper S I just looked at, they all have "..meets all Federal AND CALIFORNIA standards" on their underhood emissions labels..
whew..
:)

Did you finalize anything yet?
mreloc 09-29-2005, 07:49 PM Yeah, I placed an order last week. Got a $1K over invoice deal locally.
mose121 09-29-2005, 08:03 PM nice...congrats on the new ride!
