View Full Version : made it to WGI sooner than later...
jrkoupe 09-06-2005, 11:02 AM ......you all were right....its an AMAZING thrill ride. Took me several sessions to even get a sense of the line. Was able to get in w/ Ferrari 3 day event. Drove up w/ 2 buddies driving a 968 being built up to PCA club rules and a Boxster S w/ some Techart stuff. Being on track w/ M3's, Carrera GT's, hot 964's, Modena's, Testa Rossa's and Challenge cars is also an eye opening experience........my 168 hp and my rookie"ness" made me a bit tense. Cant wait to get back.......

jrkoupe 09-06-2005, 11:10 AM forgot to mention 2 962's!.........w/ heavy racing provenance. Overheard they were running around 2 min flat.......not sure though....its funny to see some drivers w/ no real experience, driving balls out race cars at half speed. You can hear them coughing and farting up the ESSES.....

That's probably only about 30 seconds per lap slower than they are capable of. :eyecrazy
jrkoupe 09-06-2005, 11:17 AM was hoping you would chime in!...I know, but when you have money to burn its still gotta be wild to own and drive such a beast. Can you give me an idea of lap times from different classes at WGI......?.... just throw me a couple of times from different classes......tia

I think a good CMod car can get really close to 2 minutes...but it will take some power. Lap times tend to be fairly similiar between Watkins and VIR-Full in most classes, and we've turned 2:02.5 at VIR before.
IIRC, we ran 2-3 seconds under 2 minutes in Formula Mazda at Watkins.
JClark 09-06-2005, 11:37 AM Everytime I see pictures I miss WGI a lot. But I wont be back til next year. :( How was Ferrari Club run? Organized? Are they a bunch of a-holes like PCA? (yea I said it)
jrkoupe 09-06-2005, 11:52 AM thanks BW....
about the F club....I hate to bad mouth ANY club that lets me run. Ya know I run w/ PCA and BMW alot and some chapters are wonderful and some are awful. FCA is run by a GREAT guy and all are really very nice. Its a bit casual but overall its a great group, good flaggers and 5 run groups at 20 min each. The biggest problem in novice/intermediate seems to be you have some who really dont drive well, dont give point bye's,then dust you( at least my 168 hp) on the straights w/ 300 - 500 hp.......!, but that can happen anywhere. The F club caters lunch thats very nice. ......I enjoyed it and would run again. Also whats neat about f events is you have much more eye candy......and I dont mean the cars!!! :stickoutt

sawbones 09-06-2005, 08:05 PM Ahhh... Watkins is definitely one hell of a track. Although Mid Ohio is still my favorite from my limited experience. The esses are an absolute blast. Just thought I'd throw in a pic from an Audi event this summer.

But we make a complete mockery of the exit curbing in turn one, which is just so much fun!
