View Full Version : Are you scared to drive fast on a bumpy road with your 18's?

So I just got my new 18" rims on the other day (wrapped in 225/40/18 Toyo Proxes4), and I'm just petrified of going fast on the main road near my home. For one thing, it is A LOT rougher when I go over even the smallest of bumps, but that I expected. What worries me is the huge sound that I hear when I go over a bump. When I'm driving a little faster, I'm petrified of going fast just in case I hit a bump. I just keep thinking that I'm going to bend the rim up really badly. Am I paranoid? BTW, if it matters, they're 18" ACS type III racing replicas by OCWheelwurx. They're beautiful :D

Yeah, having 18's is bittersweet. Look great, drive horribly. I've bent two rims so far hitting small potholes. PS ALWAYS, ALWAYS buy the tire protection/warranty program when you buy your tires. It's saved me over $500 in the last 2 yrs!!

i'm a bit scared but you get used to it, try to spot the bumps as far away as you can and slow down :stickoutt

Yeah, I'm trying to detect the bumps as soon as I can, but in surrey, there are tons of sewers with covers in the middle of the street...they're impossible to avoid. I guess I'll just have to get used to it, and I'll find out just how sensitive my new wheels are. :stickoutt

Oh ya, and my tires are 225/40/18 Toyo Proxes4 from OK tire...they ended up with the best price after bargaining. :D

I feel better with my 18's but of course mine are stronger then a stock wheel.

Nah, no worries. Assuming the quality of the wheel is somewhat high, you won't kill them on anything but the largest potholes. :)
