View Full Version : GA TECH folks! Go meet your new neighbors! Doctor Wha 09-02-2005, 10:24 PM Just on the evening news: A couple hundred Louisiana refugees have been bused into Alexander Memorial Coliseum this evening to make it their "new home." :confused :help Matt 09-02-2005, 10:26 PM Hot Tulane girls, here I come!!! :rofl Actually, we already got an email about that. :dunno Matt Doctor Wha 09-02-2005, 10:30 PM Actually, we already got an email about that. :dunno Really? What did it say? Matt 09-02-2005, 10:32 PM I would first like to thank all the students, faculty, and staff who worked with the Tulane students to help them reunite with their families, or for those who had no place to go, to help them find housing near our campus. We are continuing to assist the community and the victims of this disastrous hurricane. Later today the Alexander Memorial Coliseum will serve as a temporary evacuation center for several hundred refugees from the hurricane- affected areas. All shelters between New Orleans and Atlanta are at capacity. The Red Cross contacted me last night and asked for assistance. Georgia Tech's mission is education, research and service. It is now time to serve. Victims of the storm began arriving at the Coliseum around noon today. This effort is being coordinated and completely sponsored by the Red Cross. Please do not take donations to the Coliseum. Contact the Red Cross for volunteer and donation information. On campus, the Office of Community Service in Student Affairs is coordinating volunteer efforts. Please contact the Office of Community Service at 404-894-2200 to sign up to volunteer for a shift at the Colisuem. You can also check their Web site at http://www.service.gatech.edu for updates. Also, we will continue to offer support to our students who have families in the Gulf Coast area. As they need to contact family, go home, or whatever is needed, we will support these students and our alumni in these areas. Georgia Tech is also doing everything we can to accept students from universities that have been closed due to the hurricane and associated flood waters. The Board of Regents has set guidelines for accepting these students to University System of Georgia colleges and universities. Assistance and support will be offered at various levels with regard to financial aid, tuition, and other accommodations. Already, we have accepted seven students to Georgia Tech who were qualified and needed a place to continue their education. This is a time for compassion and support. As always, we have the best students in the nation and these students have stepped up to the plate with a fundraising drive to raise $50,000 for victims of Katrina. When you see our students around campus with their buckets, I urge you to give generously. There is much need and much that needs to be done. Again, thank you for all of your heroic efforts. G. Wayne Clough President Georgia Institute of Technology Matt Doctor Wha 09-02-2005, 10:37 PM Interesting... Well, it's good of them to help. I just hope the place isn't left in the same condition as the Superdome. :nono dos Santos 09-02-2005, 11:05 PM Do you think there is anyway they would let us visit them? I dont really like randomly giving out supplies for aid, when i dont know who its going to. It would be pretty nice if we could take a couple of them out for lunch/dinner in the mean time. With all the crap they're going through, I'm sure GaTech food is the last thing they need right now. Doctor Wha 09-02-2005, 11:11 PM Do you think there is anyway they would let us visit them? With all the crap they're going through, I'm sure GaTech food is the last thing they need right now. That would be quite cool, actually. I wonder about access control, though. Surely nobody's under detention per se, but I expect they must have some kind of ID or pass system set up. You can't really just open a venue like that to the general public, lest it be filled with bums in seconds. :eyecrazy Hm... BF.c Ga Take-A-Refugee-To-The-Varsity meet? :ponder dos Santos 09-02-2005, 11:29 PM I just thought about it this evening. It would be fun I think. But yeah, I know they don't want us to send supplies to the arena, so I dont know how tight they are on letting us in. But yeah, I imagine there are some pretty hot girls there... ;) Matt 09-02-2005, 11:38 PM Yeah... I know a few Tulane girls... http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gtg965w/postendymion.jpg Matt dos Santos 09-02-2005, 11:42 PM But yeah, I told a friend to look into the idea of taking a few folks out. I'm going to try tomorrow night. I'll let you know if its possible. If so, I'm sure they'd be pretty delighted with the idea of getting out a little bit. Ali 09-02-2005, 11:43 PM i'm gonna go help out a few Tulane girls by giving them much needed alcoholic refreshments. Yesssss... you have my number, right? :devillook Matt dos Santos 09-02-2005, 11:49 PM Is that photo from mardi gras? Why do they have their shirts on? Matt 09-02-2005, 11:50 PM Why do the girls in that photo have their shirts on? They were the sophisticated, classy ones. Except the one with the dicks around her neck. She earned those beads. :icon23 Matt dos Santos 09-02-2005, 11:56 PM They were the sophisticated, classy ones. Except the one with the dicks around her neck. She earned those beads. :icon23 Matt OMG! I didnt even notice that before in the photo! haha aMiR M3 09-03-2005, 12:28 AM email we got... To: Georgia State University faculty, staff and students From: President Carl Patton The Georgia State University community shares the deep concern for all victims of Hurricane Katrina, and in particular for the college students, faculty members and their families. In an effort to help students avoid a break in their education, Georgia State will accept students who can show proof of enrollment at an accredited university or college in the New Orleans area as transient students for the fall semester. The Georgia Staste Univesity Student Government Association will help orient these new students to the campus, and through Volunteer GSU we will organize a response as soon as we can travel to the affected area. Thank you. like we dont have enough students.. :rolleyes i swear this semester at state has been hell with all the dumbass new people being all lost and annoying...not to mention being late to class all the time because it is so hard to make it pass the crowds of people walking on the streets. Normally this problem would be fixed after first week when freshmen found out tey can skip classes and never showed again but not this semester...second week and same shit :mad and now this :mad komodo9 09-03-2005, 02:00 PM We're getting some visitors ON our campus. The email we got: Official UGA Announcements Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005 TO: UGA faculty, staff and students RE: Utilization of the Ramsey Center by the American Red Cross The University of Georgia has been asked by Gov. Sonny Perdue to participate in statewide efforts to house evacuees from the hurricane devastation along the Gulf coast. As outlined in existing disaster plans, the Ramsey Center for Student Activities is a designated Red Cross shelter in such emergencies. It can temporarily house an estimated 574 persons. The university was informed late Friday that evacuees from the Gulf coast disaster may begin arriving at the Ramsey Center as early as Sunday, Sept. 4. It is clear that portions of the Ramsey Center may become unavailable for their normal uses once this crisis plan is implemented. While details are not complete at this time, it is expected the impacted areas will be those on the first, or lowest, floor. The university community already has shown a tremendous desire to be of assistance in this national emergency. Your cooperation and understanding of inconveniences caused by the utilization of the Ramsey Center for this important purpose will be appreciated. Further information will be provided as it becomes available. Ali 09-03-2005, 03:30 PM We're getting some visitors ON our campus. I'd welcome those girls with open arms at Tech. Def 09-04-2005, 02:56 AM :nono On a side note, my ex-gf is a Tulane graduate, and we had lots of fun in New Orleans. I'd welcome those girls with open arms at Tech. I'm sure half the population will be too busy playing on their computers to notice they've arrived. aMiR M3 09-04-2005, 01:49 PM I'm sure half the population will be too busy playing on their computers to notice they've arrived. hahahahaha adeelpowers 09-04-2005, 02:11 PM I'm sure half the population will be too busy playing on their computers to notice they've arrived. half? more like 80% Doctor Wha 09-04-2005, 02:20 PM You guys really think the refugee demographic is made up of hot chicks and computer geeks? :confused Hoo boy, are you in for a big surprise! :rofl The smart and/or pretty people got out first. :devillook Def 09-04-2005, 07:03 PM You guys really think the refugee demographic is made up of hot chicks and computer geeks? :confused Hoo boy, are you in for a big surprise! :rofl The smart and/or pretty people got out first. :devillook I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you've never been enrolled at Tech. Since then I think it'd be painfully obvious who would actually be playing computers games out of the two groups. ;) My big sis went to Tulane, so those were some of my first "college experiences." Trust me, I know all too well how much more "lively" the average student is there. :( Doctor Wha 09-04-2005, 07:12 PM I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you've never been enrolled at Tech. Since then I think it'd be painfully obvious who would actually be playing computers games out of the two groups. ;) Enrolled myself, no, but I wasted plenty of my immortal youth there with a buddy who was enrolled. So yes, I'm well familiar with the prevailing demographic. It's just amusing to see how hope springs eternal from some quarters. Any arrival of new people, even water-logged refugees, brings speculation of "OMG, will there be girls??!!1" :rofl joecoolinatl 09-05-2005, 05:49 AM i bet 95% of the "refugees" arent girls Def 09-05-2005, 08:33 AM i bet 95% of the "refugees" arent girls That still tips the ratio's favor towards the female side. Strange, Tech jokes are suddenly 58907023980 times more funny to me than when I was still going there. ;) Ali 09-05-2005, 10:27 AM I got to tech and I never have trouble with the ladies :dunno Doctor Wha 09-05-2005, 11:37 AM I got to tech and I never have trouble with the ladies :dunno I have to agree with that. Even back in ye olde days when I was hanging out there (well before they expanded the curriculum and brought in more chicks), I always saw plenty of potential "targets" roaming around. :buttrock |
