View Full Version : Why buy a Z4??? luxury1 09-02-2005, 11:54 AM I am planning on purchasing a toy car next year and am looking at the boxter, Z4, 3 series convertible and A4 convertible. I am sure you guys went through the same decision process so why did you choose the Z4? builder 09-02-2005, 02:00 PM saw one driving to work today, sun gleaming on its metallic paint...stunning  SeattleChad 09-02-2005, 02:06 PM I am planning on purchasing a toy car next year and am looking at the boxter, Z4, 3 series convertible and A4 convertible. I am sure you guys went through the same decision process so why did you choose the Z4? We liked the Z4 so much, we bought two. 1) styling....controversial,yes...but we love the unique look and it gets lots of looks. (Bangle My World :D ) 2) The Boxter just looks outdated... and to me,the refresh is still not refreshing enough. 3) 3 series vert is nice, but the body style just isnt exciting and its outdated....soon to be Bangled. (yeah!) 4) A4 is just blah looking to me as well....nothing unique there, IMO. Mostly is came down to styling/looks for us, then the brand, then the engines available. The BMW straight 6 just oozes sweet juicy love at any RPM....I listen to it more than I do the stereo. You should try it. --Chad http://idisk.mac.com/powerbookbeetle/Public/makomanotag.jpg ridebmw 09-09-2005, 05:51 PM i do not like the way A4s drive at all i have driven their vert and the handling is so disconnected from the road its ridicolous. the 3 series vert can more or less be a everyday driver wouldnt consider it a weekend car. The new boxster is amazing if u can afford the S get that no questions asked. MY .02 liigod 09-09-2005, 07:33 PM I dont see a reason to buy the z4 when a new boxter is an option :) If thats too much, then I would rather have an s2000. Ridgeway 09-09-2005, 08:50 PM We liked the Z4 so much, we bought two. +1 :buttrock -stlye -interior amenities -price -performance -dealer -upkeep In each area the Z4 reigned supreme in my tests & opinions. S2000, lacks interior amenities, and a good dealer. SLK320, design was about to be replaced, performance suxed, the interior was so-so, and it seemed like a woman's car in addition to being more $ 350z, just makes a bad roadster, so not in contention Boxster S (986), so-so exterior design, interior was absolutly horrid, price was substantially more, the dealer wouldn't give me the time of day, and upkeep is more = http://www.jdbeyer.com/carpics/othercarpics/z2r4.jpg M3 No1 09-10-2005, 10:48 AM i love the rear look of Z4...but i hate the front look... i like some...sharp look :p any spyshots for next model? :) Ridgeway 09-10-2005, 11:48 AM i love the rear look of Z4...but i hate the front look... :) the oem aero front bumper really helps the front end, otherwise I agree it does look somewhat bland skribble 09-15-2005, 01:22 AM Luxury1, you asked: I am planning on purchasing a toy car next year and am looking at the boxter, Z4, 3 series convertible and A4 convertible. I am sure you guys went through the same decision process so why did you choose the Z4? I own a 2005 Maldives Blue 3.0i Z4, and am probably biased, but: Boxster: too expensive for me...I don't think I could have bought one below $48k new 3-series convert: too pedestrian, most sporty of 2+2 converts, but do you neeed 2+2? A4 convert: nicest interior, but based on sedan platform sharing....sure Quattro (sp?) adds performance, but also adds weight especially in the Summer months. You get performance with the S4, but do you really NEED to add a V8 to get decent performance? other roadsters: MX-5: Probably biased, but its still a Miata to me 350z: biggest engine, but suffers because of platform sharing ~3500lbs, cheap interior Audi TT: cool styling, platform sharing increases weight and decreases relevance of performance requirements MR-2: Small...cool cheap mid-engine design...not sure if it goes past 2005-2006. . S2000: screamer..spartan interior...lack of audio, comfort options... Crossfire: alot of critisizm (sp?) of old slk platform...odd styling...plastic interior....plus-----lots of grip SLK350....seems like a dream...old-fogy Mercedes comfort stigma....expensive...I couldn't get one for under $50k Z4: just right....I'm 33 and single...just right peformance..I don't race...I've only received positive comments from fellow drivers/pedestrians on styling/color....Its awesome to line my car upto a supposedly market-leading Toyota Camry in they corporate parking lot....the Z4 is atleast 7" shorter than the Camry. The Camry...Accord...G35...G6...Passat...look plain....the Eclipse, RS, Cobalt, Ion, WRX, EVO...interchangeable.....the Z4 stands out like nothing else... Please e-mail me if you want to talk further... skribble skribblejd@yahoo.com tonyw 10-12-2005, 08:48 AM Luxury1, you asked: I am planning on purchasing a toy car next year and am looking at the boxter, Z4, 3 series convertible and A4 convertible. I could not get the Boxter S that I wanted without ending up with a 70k car. That was not in the range I was interested in. Snarcher! 10-12-2005, 01:51 PM the thing i love about the Z4 (my housemate got one) is that the car was built and designed with nothing in mind but the fun of driving... there are no cargo nets, they didnt care about room for kids, pets, etc, its just made to hop on like a bike and go fly around twisty roads with. |
