I have a set of short koni's for the front of my e30 and im gonna get the struts cut and welded next week how much should i cut out of them? I heard 1-2in but no more then 2in's is this right? also is tubing a good spacer for the shock to hold it up in the strut?

we do that on 2002s all the time. but we use vw rabbit inserts and cut the strut 2" you lower the car without the loss of suspension traval.
sorry, don't know anythign on what needs to be done on the e30. how much shorter are the shocks?

You need to cut them however much shorter they are than the stock ones. Once you pull the stock inserts out compare them. And it's not just cut, you have to section out the top because you don't just want to cut the top or else you loose the threads and the ability to hold the insert down with the gland nut.
If they are GC inserts (Konis) I believe you section 1" from the strut. Get them rewelded by a competent welder as it is easy to get molten weld on the inside of the tube and keep the insert from going all the way in.
