Trailering or driving more than a few hours each way and running on the track for two days could reach the $2-300 range for gasoline costs.

Think you'll just bite the bullet or has this made you say,

"Not this year, the gas charges will Break My Wallet"?

I was just thinking about that at the last trackday. I usually drive 3 hours to and from SD to get to the track and spend around $100 on gas alone. I never really took the cost of gas into account. I might now.

probably not. it definitely sucks, but i think compared to how much a track day costs, brake pads, tires, fluid changes, etc the increase in the price of oil aint too bad.

With gas prices tripling, interest rates going up, driving schools is one item that I will be cutting back on next year. At least the distant ones. Summit Point is starting to look better and better to me since it is 1 hour from home.

And prices will be going up on everything. About the only thing not going up is my salary. :mad

With my end of college approaching (Dec.), I had planned to track a "new" car next spring very regularly. I'm not so sure I'll have the extra money to pay college loans and pay for regular track days. I'm VERY fortunate to be only 30 minutes from Summit Point.

It already was a partial reason in my decision to skip an upcoming track day. Although not the only reason.

I just got a call that a track day I had planned to go to on Monday is cancelled due to gas prices/shortages. I think it's mainly for social responsibility reasons. It's disappointing, but I've got a lot of friends to the south of me who have a lot more to worry about than turning a few laps, so I'll get over it.

But no, I don't think gas prices will keep me from the track. This weekend would have meant about 25 gallons in gas for me, so if you figure a $1 increase per gallon... 25 extra bucks is a small drop in the bucket.

Does the price of crack stop the fiends? Cigarette cost stop smokers?

You can bum a cigarette but when you start seeing people eyeball 5 gallon jugs of gas at the track, watch out.

I probably won't spend more than $6.00 in gas for an autocross this weekend... :dunno

Driving to topeka, however... ouch.

I guess that's one thing the parking lot warriors have over everybody else - hard to burn those dead dinosaurs where Susie Soccermom parks her behemoth. ;)

I heard news reports this morning that gas stations down in Danville (VIR) have run out of regular and plus... premium is in short supply.

Hopefully this wont affect us for O'fest :confused

Edit: looks like they say there is enough gas in Danville:

The gas shortage is only temporary because the pipelines coming out of the deep south were shut down from Monday to Wednesday. They are now up an running, at lower than full capacity but still pumping plenty of fuel. The stations that don't currently have fuel will all have fuel soon enough.

I thought I'd share this quote from today's issue of our campus newspaper. On the subject of the gasoline shortage in town:

"I went all over town looking for regular gas, but mostly all they had left was premium," junior English major [Jane Doe] said.

I'm glad she's not a business major.

Well if you really a true racer and love what you do, you have to pay for all of this fun you have.

I just learn to eat less or more noodles to get my gas money.
