View Full Version : And so I am joining the dark side....
/\/\ Power 08-31-2005, 03:47 PM Now, having wrecked my 98 M3/4 I need a new car. With these CRAZY gas prices I have had second thoughts on getting another M....3.2L is too much for me... And so I have come to a decision! *Sigh* well here is my plan:
92ish Civic Hatchback w/ either H22/GSR/Type R/LS swap
custom turbo pushing 250+fwhp
some weight reduction
I know it can be done because my brother has built a 350whp crx(full race car) and his hatch is around 250fwhp as well. His best 1/4mile time in his hatch is 12something or another. He says the CRX spins tires from 1st to about 3 seconds into 4th.....WITH slicks :eyecrazy
So Just wanted to say my good-byes to everyone. I might still come out to some meets...BMW will have a place in my heart for ever :) Infact since this thing will be paid off I think I might start saving for the new M3 :evil2 Depending on gas prices, lol.
ps Anyone know where I can buy a 2foot wing+ angel eyes for my civic project?? :help
Mitchy540 08-31-2005, 03:50 PM For God's sake man, don't do it!!

check out DTM Power.
Sparc_it 08-31-2005, 04:00 PM How did you wreck it.... were you being stupid?
i'm sorry about the wreck, but are you parting anything or is insurance letting you buy it back? I'm interested in interior items.
thanks!
MCoupe434 08-31-2005, 04:12 PM Say it ain't so Rad. :( How did you wreck the car?
Screw Honda, go e30 or e36 318
PrinceE30 08-31-2005, 05:13 PM Eta loves you :)
At least it's got more class than a Civic.

Im gonna organize an e30 group buy
/\/\ Power 08-31-2005, 05:32 PM Long story short. Was coming back from my girlfriend's house the steering went crazy on me, I tried to keep it on the road but couldnt. Went around another car (without hitting him) swung out infront of him, hit the guard rail, spun around hit it again, then that same guy hit me . Whole time I had my windows down doing this :buttrock . Then I woke up and realized what happend lol. Anyways, insurance bought the entire car so I couldnt take anything from it cept my personal stuff. They said they would auction it off to dealers or something.
Ive been torn apart deciding if I should get a fast lil civic or an M again. Come to the conclusion that, yes I wont have the luxury and stares as I did with my bimmer but in return I will have a fast lil ricer :cool Hondas are so freaken cheap to work on its not even funny....and boosting it wont be a problem, my brother owns his own turbo company and has done many cars(jap cars). Now Im excited to get it so I can pull up to a corvette and show him what a 4 banger can do lol.
Flying Dutchman 08-31-2005, 05:39 PM Is a 250 hp Civic gonna get better gas mileage than an M3 ?
Seems your going a little to far towards the dark side. :devillook

Regret the civic or the 318?
BimmerDawg 08-31-2005, 11:25 PM Man, Rad, sorry to hear it.
Get an e30 and turbo it...
A 250whp Civic is going to suck down gas at WOT with the rich AFRs that turbo cars run. My Nissan gets better gas mileage than my M3 on cruising(*just* barely though), but when I get on often the BMW gets better gas mileage. It makes less power, so it makes sense, but don't let the small engine size fool you. My *stock* injectors are twice as large as the ones that came on a '95 M3, and I'm upgrading to ones about 50% larger than my current ones(550cc, or about 50lb/hr).
If you just want 250whp, I say keep the D series. They're cheap as chit and can take 250whp with a good tune for at least a few years.
NaTuReB0Y 09-01-2005, 03:01 AM Go for it! I miss the old days of the Fast and the Furious......I guess everyone eventually grows out of it....
joecoolinatl 09-01-2005, 04:22 AM Im gonna organize an e30 group buy
and to think i just gave away one and sold one for 200
haha
but im thinking about buying a e30 325i cabrio soon
/\/\ Power 09-01-2005, 12:29 PM Im actually gonna be using a fully rebuilt 92-95 hatchback Si SOHC VTEC motor. The entire rebuilt motor+custom turbo will cost me around $5,000+the car. So im looking forward to it :)
ecpreston 09-01-2005, 01:22 PM the steering went crazy on you? :confused
rsagona1 09-01-2005, 01:27 PM If you can't afford the M3 now, get a 318i but then later do the S52 motor swap.
Robstah 09-01-2005, 02:44 PM Get a 1992 325i /w a non-vanos M50 and then stroke it to 2.9L. That will get you farther in life than some pos civic ricer.
/\/\ Power 09-01-2005, 02:50 PM I didnt say I cant afford it....Heck I could buy one cash BUT thats not the problem.... I have something to admit to everyone.....*sigh* :( Everyone....My name is Rad....and I am an addict! I am addicted to ADRENALIN!! Its like cocaine but much more dangerous. lol And come on, whats more dangerous than a 12second car that weigh's less than 2000lbs? lol. Its like a fly with a jet engine! :buttrock
We'll get some bets going once its done with anyone who wants to race :devillook loser buys the winner a gallon of gas+ doughnut lol.
The whole get a e30+s52 swap. That motor alone is like $10,000! for 10k I can have a 10 second civic, including the car. lol. Ill come out to some meets, I think the Bimmer crowd is a lot friendlier than the rest of the import crowds. I can see it now.... 50 bimmers and one lil honduh in the back! :)

dont forget to change your sn to 'Rice Power.'
/\/\ Power 09-01-2005, 03:35 PM dont forget to change your sn to 'Rice Power.'
Will that give me an extra 15whp?
adeelpowers 09-01-2005, 03:41 PM Will that give me an extra 15whp?
more like 16 at the crank. You can also put resistors in your car to get that extra hp.
Dont forget to get an auto. You'd be posing with a stick.
dos Santos 09-01-2005, 05:49 PM I know a guy who does silvia conversions. A friend at work bought an old 240sx for like 3k, and did the motor swap (what is it, sr-20 or something like that), for 2.5k. Now he has a 400hp nissan for a grand total of under 6k.
The car is insanely fast. He doesnt even like to drive it daily because its just crazy. He went 12's on the stock steelie 15" wheels with hubcaps.
I can give you a phone number if you want.
SR20DET
And it'll give you more like 250rwhp with a few other supporting mods(like a FMIC and full exhaust) on the stock turbo. You can make 400hp, but the turbo alone to do that(assuming you don't spend another $500-1k on stuff like a manifold etc.) is over a grand.
You can go 12's on the stock T25 with a light car though.
If he did the swap a while ago(like 2-3 yrs), they've gone up in price since then.
/\/\ Power 09-01-2005, 08:01 PM Anyone know of any hatchbacks for sale? I checked auto trader and they are all sold :( I want a 92-95 eg model. Preferably an Si.
They're not exactly a common car since they've been a very common car to pick up and do a swap.
IMO, buy a car with the swap already done if that's what you want. You'll save money in right off the bat.

Cant do that. My motor is being fully built in Canada and shipped to here after. So all I need is a good body, dont really care how many miles are on the original motor.

I can send my car to Canada and get a 500hp LS1 put in my car for 10k. Plus, I still drive a BMW...

The cost of your car+ the cost of the 500hp LS1= a 8-9second full race hatch.
Cant argue with BMW vs Honda speaking strictly about money. Hondas are so much cheaper to buy and tune than any BMWs. UUC short shifter for bimmer=$450. DC Sports shortshifter for civic $95. Just as an example.
Ya bimmers are nicer, comfty, luxury, sporty, fast, pimp ect ect ect. But a sleeper civic that can blow the doors off most cars on the road= priceless :cool

How much can your bro hook it up with a turbo kit if I bought a civic?
/\/\ Power 09-02-2005, 04:30 PM How much can your bro hook it up with a turbo kit if I bought a civic?
Depending on what kind of Turbo you want and what kind of numbers you want?? Mine we are making like his, should be in the 12 second range at the track. He does everything by hand, including the intercooler, turbo manifold, intercooler piping ect ect. He can ship out kits but needs to know what kind of civic and how much power you want out of it. If your interested let me know.
John 540i6 09-02-2005, 10:12 PM been there......done that 7 times..........then bought a bmw because i was tired of all the bullshit all the time. Now i just drive my car and have fun with it. Every other car like my celica x2, mr2, s14, ae86, civic x2 always had some minor issue and i was always praying they would start up in the morning. Most of these cars were 300+ hp and pulled M5s. Going to a 540i6 is much slower but I have a lot more fun in something that does everything well. A high hp sport compact isnt fun to drive on a daily basis. I did it for the last 6 years and Ive just had enough. Now when i drive by a civic with its windows down and i see the guy drowning in sweat because its +96* out, i just giggle to myself inside my car as i turn down my AC cause im too cold. :D I dont care if he does have 400whp. Hes not using any of it in this atlanta traffic. Its about to drive me insane.
a very easy setup in that eg: (if you really want a civic)
GSR (b18c1) stock longblock/manifolds
t3t4 @ 10psi with basic supporting mods
proper engine management and intercooling will net you 300whp.
My friends eg burns out through 3rd gear with the GSR transmission. LSD would be a great way to put that power down even better. One cool thing about the eg civic is that it uses the same uni-body as a late model integra. This means you can bolt on all the GSR 4 wheel disc brakes. The motor goes in easy and if you really want, swap in the integra interior. It looks 10x better than the stock civic stuff. Hell, you can bolt on the entire front end of an integra onto the eg body. Looks kinda crazy and its easy as hell to do.

You got my respect for what you said. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I have never had a 12second hatch. Ive had a 2000 Si and a 98 M3 (and others not worth mentioning) but I would like something a little different now. My work is litterally 1 mile away so daily driving isnt a problem. I want something that people laugh at when I tell them what I drive but when it comes down to it, its a different story.
I LOVE bmw's and always will. Some day I will buy another one, thats for sure. What will it be? Who knows....Hopefully an M. Right now im young and wanna get this speed addiction out of my system before I get married have kids. Cuz then I cant do this stuff any more, gonna have a family and kids to think about... I just want a lil light weight car which is good on gas(when not in boost :devillook ) to have some fun in thats all :)
ps you might laugh at the guy in the civic cuz he doesnt have a/c but hes laughing right back at you cuz it costs you $90 to fill your tank:)
