I may have to get a Verizon cell phone to take advantage of a deal on my wireless internet.

How is Verizon cell phone service in the ATL, Athens, etc. areas?

Between BellSouth (now Cingular), T-Mobile, and Verizon, Verizon is the best I've had service with yet.

Weird. I've had Cingular and am now with T-mobile and have always heard Verizon sort of blows.

So, solid signals?

I don't care about customer service, they all suck in that regard.

Absolutely the opposite of what I've experienced.

So, solid signals?
Definitely. I've never had a dropped call that was because of my end. A buddy of mine with a fancy-azz new Nextel drops them left and right, though. :biglaughb

I don't know if you listen to Clark Howard at all, but he has mentioned that in consumer surveys, Verizon usually comes in as slightly higher in price that other carriers, but customer service and reliability are consistently at the top of the list. From what I've encountered, that's just about right. You do get what you pay for.

I mentioned in another thread that I'd taken my Verizon phone on a cross-country road trip, and even in the middle of the NM desert, I still had a signal. As long as you're not a gazingajillion miles from nowhere, you should be okay.

Seconded.

I have Verizon and Adeel has something else and my reception is consistanly better at our place. He has to go outside to make calls sometimes.

Not from what I hear. About 90% of Sprint customers that I talk to can't get away from Sprint fast enough.

I'm with Verizon and have had good luck for 5 years!

Really? I've used them since '97...I think they're great. Cingular, however, is the provider for my Blackberry, and I have been less than impressed.

Used to have Sprint...it sucked. Been with Verizon for 3 years and it's awesome. I'm either in Atlanta, Athens, or Greenville SC and I never lose service.

I have Verizon and as long as I'm not at home I have good service. I live off 400 at Northridge so it must just be my apartment in relation to a tower. Almost anywhere else around town I have 4 bars.

I had AT&T which turned into Cingular and then switched to Verizon, and the service is MUCH better. Verizon is a bit more expensive, but its worth it in the better clarity and coverage areas.

that's not right AT&T has had the most towers since god knows when and there service is great..hence the high prices..but I am saying this in regards to someone who travels a lot around the country..you can get signals with AT&T phones in places that any of the other cell companies could even imagine..for my personal service I had verizon first but then switched over to powertel..which later eventually became t-mobile. That was a long time ago but back then verizon sucked.

I had Cingular (Bellsouth Wireless at first) for several years. I'd have all sorts of issues. For example, at work in order to get calls in my office, I could lean against a wall and get barely acceptable reception. When I'd go visit my Parents down in the St. Marys/King Bay area, my phone would drop signals all the time and try to pick up on the cingular service from Jacksonville.

With Verizon I can get excellent reception anywhere in my office and anywhere I've been so far, which includes North Dakota (and many states in between) and of course all over GA.

I got the LG VX6000 (I think).

The reason I switched in the first place was because Cingular was changing over to their new GSM network from their TDMA network and the coverage was going to be horrible because most of the phones were GSM only and wouldn't work on any of the TDMA/CDMA networks. Verizon uses CDMA which is newer than TDMA and has massive coverage. I think GSM is used in Europe but other than that I'm not sure.

Umm, anyway, I recommend Verizon.

Actually, who put the towers up, or even who owns them, doesn't matter that much any more. Different companies lease antenna and/or relay space from whoever does. It helps to keep the number of towers reasonable, so there isn't one every other block for a different carrier or other. As a result, there are several carriers on any given tower. :cool

I know this..yet although what you said is correct..not every company has leases on all towers..AT&T has the most towers in comparison to the other companies which gives them more coverage and better signal. Like I said for personal use i perfer t-mobile...great rates for people who use a ton of minutes and pretty good coverage..but for business and travel, I only recommend AT&T. I only wish they would bring back their unlimited minutes deal they have for a while..

For the ATL area, Verizon is the best and I can assure that nothing compares.

I had AT&T from 1999 to 2005, 6 different phones, 3 different living locations. AT&T sucked in every situation. Why I stayed is beyond me. Switched to Verizon 5 months ago with a Motorola V710 phone. The coverage is like 500% better with just 2, JUST 2, dropped calls to date. I averaged 20 dropped calls a day with AT&T.

Best friend has T mobile, while he gets lot of minutes for less than I pay, he drops calls right and left. Around the brookhaven area, there are several dead areas for him that work perfect for me. Many occasions he cant get a signal when I have perfect reception.

Everyone person I have known with Sprint could not wait to end their contract. Reception is not that great and customers seem to hate them.

Traveling around the Southeast, I have found Verizon to be MUCH better than AT&T for service on the interstates. I have not found an area where I didt have a signal and AT&T did. On the other hand, traveling I-20 and I-10, verizon works much better than AT&T which would have 60 mile dead areas.

I did have an issue with Verizon and their customer service, which sucked. But I was expecting that as they ALL suck with customer service.

I not only use Verizon service, I'm a project manager for them. The service (usually) and our technology is second to none. I implement the stuff so I'm aware of all the tech stuff. Interestingly enough, they are also a great company to work for. Verizon Rocks! and no they aren't paying me to say this.

Peace,
