View Full Version : RIP, Cursed Vert
adeelpowers 08-30-2005, 02:55 PM As some of you may have already found out, my car is gone. I wrecked it Saturday night on a curvy road in the middle of the night. The road had a sharp right and I slammed on the brakes with my wheels turned to the right (I know, stupid thing to do) and it kept on going straight down the hill. It crossed over the opposite lane and hit the curb and came to rest nudged between a telephone and light pole. Mere inches to the left of right and I would've been badly hurt. My car had been considerablly low so when it hit the curb it pulled the front bumper underneath the car, ripped the shock mounts and turned the front wheels to a 90 degree angle. Luckily no one was hurt and the 4-pt harnesses did their job. I'll most likely leave insurance out of it since it was a single vehicle accident and take the hit up front rather than pay the difference over the years. As for transportation i'll sell the mods and use them to buy an old e30 or something in the $1-2k range.
What hurts most is that my car was more than just transportation. I, as along with other members, dedicated loads of money, time, and sweat into it. The car was a continous work of art with me surfing the boards looking for the perfect mods to do with my budget. I would even calculate how many hours I needed to work to get this instead of that. Im sorry to let all those down that helped me with this car. Even now, broken on the parking lot floor it looks so beautiful. It wants more, it wants to be driven again, it wants to taste the road one last time but it'll never happen.
All I have left are the memories from it. The BMW meets, the rush of driving with the top down, the mountain drive, the looks and stares, the satisfaction of finishing a mod or spending all day waxing it. With the good, the bad memories that taught me how to live life differently and the changes they brought. The arrest, the blown engine, the weirdness to every component of it.
Every car has a different soul and this was no exception. The way it felt was like no other. The grip of the seats and harness wrapped around your body, the MOMO steering wheel in your palms, the cf gauges, the gearknob, the sounds of the chip, CAI and uuc exhaust working in harmony and the top down with the wind enveloping your body. Driving in downtown Atlanta and Chicago looking up at the skyscrapers at night was almost out of a dream. And now, all those experiences and hardwork are gone. I miss it deeply and being with out a car is hard but its been made easier by those that have already offered their condolences and offering their help, I am extremely grateful Bret, Jesse, John, and Matt.
RIP Nyla.
Sorry to hear that man. I know how it feels... Glad you are not hurt.

Doctor Wha 08-30-2005, 03:15 PM Damn, that's rough. Sorry to hear that, Adeel. :(
On the other hand, you car gave its life so you didn't have to give yours. As a BMW, it did its job, and I'm sure if it could talk, it would have no regrets about that. Glad you weren't hurt.
Onward and upward... Good luck in the hunt for a worthy successor!
tsbmw 08-30-2005, 03:27 PM Adeel,
I read your post with great sadness
Glad you were not hurt and very sorry your car is gone

BimmerDawg 08-30-2005, 03:29 PM Damn, Adeel. Sorry to hear it man. All that matters is that you're okay. I know that isn't what you want to hear but having wrecked my M3, I did realize that's all that matters.
Best of luck to you and I can assure you that you'll be more than happy in an e30. :)
Damn man you have no luck. I blame The-Great-328ic's mirrors. Good luck with everything man.
Sorry to hear it but I think you should get insurance involved unless you only had liability. You won't see that much of an increase in your insurance as long as you don't keep totaling cars.
The-Great-328ic 08-30-2005, 03:32 PM OH man, I'm so sorry for you :( you have no idea.
I know what it's like and feel your pain, I know words can't change anything, but I truly feel bad, hopefully you get most of your money back
RIP :(

Yea man I would claim it. It's not like you had a new 2000+ BMW, so if did go up it wouldn't be much. I know Allstate now makes a claim where they forgive you if you mess up once, hopefully you have full coverage and Allstate.
phildo 08-30-2005, 03:35 PM sorry to hear about the accident. glad you are ok though. best of luck with whatever car you get next.
M3Bill 08-30-2005, 03:56 PM Sorry to hear about your loss...
I hate it when people say, "It was only a car." They just don't understand...
It breaks my heart to see her sitting in our parking lot all fucked up. :(

Non-car enthusiasts, generally, say things just like that...
I wasn't inferring that anyone on here said that....but thanks for your concern.

Doctor Wha 08-30-2005, 05:06 PM Maybe there's some kind of cosmic balance being kept here in the Matt/Adeel microverse...
For the longest time, Adeel had a car, and Matt needed a ride.
Now, Matt has a car, and Adeel needs a ride. :confused
Matt... and Adeel...
Two young men who love their cars...
But all the roads they drive on lead them to...

Hopefully your friends won't constantly remind you about it years later like some people I know... :shifty

G. P. Burdell 08-30-2005, 06:47 PM Sorry to hear it, Adeel. I remember looking at your interior dye pictures just a few weeks ago. That was some good work.
If you're feeling any neck or back pain as a result of the crash, be sure to get checked out by a doctor ASAP.
Think of your next car as a fresh start, or perhaps a blank canvas.

03X530 08-30-2005, 08:43 PM Damn dude, that really sucks. Only got to check out your car once but it was a great car. You should still try to go for an e30 vert if you can. If you need any help around tech (which doesn't involve a car, as I don't have one either) give me a call.
xatlas0 08-30-2005, 08:55 PM What about that o-so-special engine? Is any of it salvageable? That engine alone is worth a substantial sum. Even if the whole thing isn't, some of it should still be ok, assuming things weren't flying out the oil pan.

2.9L Stroker? :devillook
I say he should get an e30 (vert if need be) and stick the M50 in there. Then stroker that sucker up to 2.9 and let the power seep right back through his fingers. I am willing to help make that happen. Don't disappear on us Adeel.
adeelpowers 08-30-2005, 09:21 PM Don't disappear on us Adeel.
I wont be leaving you guys.
Bret has convinced me of dealing with insurance and taking the money from them, as well as the increased rate. Doing this, I'll take the money they give and keep it on the side for the higher rate and buy a beater. Im still coming to grips about all this so nothing is for certain at the moment. I still have yet to tell my parents... :help
96-98 E36 328 4 doors go rather cheap (5-6k range) why don't you buy one of those and just drive it instead of modifying it? I'm sure your insurance will give you at least that much, and you can part the vert out to make up some of the money :) Just trying to see the good in some bad.

Thanks Ali. I might go that route or get a cheaper car and keep the money on the side since money is tight at the Ismaili household. If anything, I need a car that'll give me two good years since I plan on getting a better car when Im done with Tech and finally have a job.
After graduation im considering:
M Coupe
M3
M5

I guess I was the last one to see the cursed vert in person. And we even got a few stains out of the carpet with the beloved "I Love My Car" foaming cleanser just before that!
I'll watch out for you guys on campus. If you ever need a ride, or a car to go out in for special occasions, let me know, and i'll be glad to assist. :)

AtlzDesiKhiladi 08-30-2005, 11:21 PM Adeel,
sorry to hear about your loss. I know exactly what it feels like. And trust me, it's only going to get worse when you're sitting there pulling off all your parts. You'll think of all the great memories you had with the car and how it really changed your life. Although you had mostly what seemed to be bad luck with your car, you really put a smile on everyones face by telling us your cursed vert stories. I'm sure that everyone on this board will miss your car as much as you do, and hopefully your next car will be much better. And also remember that nothing material is worth more than your life. We're all glad that you did not get hurt. Cars come and go, but there can only be one Adeel. :)
P.S: Lemme know if you need help pulling off any parts...I'd be glad to help...although I can see bret just suiting up to do most of it as ususal ;)

Glad to hear you are ok - you can't replace your health. A car is no big deal, other then the heartache and I can feel you there too (I almost cried when my Mom of all people, totalled my very first car when I was 16..).
I know someone selling a 318 e36 vert black (Car is a '96 I want to say, new top), if you still want your car back and feel like it's time to do that engine swap you always wanted.. :)

Then again, it remonds me of that old joke...
Jake lives a great life, absolutely free of sin or blemish. One day, though, he has a heart attack. While on the operating table, he has a near death experience. He sees God, and asks if this is it. :(
God says "You, Jake?? What are you doing here? No, you have another 30-40 years to live! I'm sending you back right now!" :confused
So Jake recovers, and figures since he's got another 30 or 40 years, he might as well make the most of it. He stays in the hospital, and gets a face lift, nose job, tummy tuck, pec implants, hair plugs, the works. He goes out and gets an all new wardrobe, a new car, a cute girlfriend, and a snazzy condo by the beach.
Then one day, crossing the street, he gets hit by a bus. :eyecrazy
Jake arrives once more in front of God and asks, "I thought you said I had another 30 or 40 years??" :dunno

QuickSilv3r 08-31-2005, 05:44 PM Adeel, I read your post with great sadness
...as did I :( . Your post is everything I feel for my own BMW, I know EXACTLY how you feel and silently pray to myself each and every day that something like that doesn't happen to me or my baby, nothing can replace that emotion and connection you feel with that of which you've put all your money, heart, and soul into.
Just yesterday I nearly totalled my baby because someone decided to cut out in front of me, turning left, and instead of speeding up to move out of the way, she stopped dead in the middle of the road because she saw me comming, causing me to hit the brakes hard and skid into a gap of stopped/backed up traffic on the opposite side of the road. If I would have hit her, her new civic would be destroyed and my baby would be no more. I do my best to avoid sh*t like this everyday and literally have learned to compensate for others' driving mistakes, as I certainly can't imagine hurting my BMW for a senseless, personal mistake.
Good Luck finding another BMW, I hope this doesnt happen again :)
