I had a new windscreen/windshield fitted last week-the job is having to be re-done due to a faulty seal and the manager at the shop is ordering another screen incase the first one breaks when re-doing the job.

My question is this-I was asked if my original screen had a "top tint,"I said I thought it did, however the new one(that may be replaced)looks totally clear all over from the inside and out.The manager of the shop said my old screen didn't have a top tint, but I and my friend who drives the car reckon there was no doubt the top of the screen when viewed from the inside looked dark.Having said that,I admit there was not a particularly noticable tint on the top of the screen when viewed from outside.

What do you think I ought to have fitted to my car that is correct?

Your advice is much appreciated!

P.S.I am aware my new screen is heated and is tinted-it is the top part I question!

Thanks

If there was an IR coating ...you would have had the small 3 X 5 inch clear square located at the center bottom of the windshield - right at dash level. This is where you have to put your radar detectors for them to work effectively. There is also a difference around the rear view mirror - may have been harder to notice.

Overall the IR tint is not very dary at all - must look closely to see.

I was informed that BMW has stopped production on the IR windshields with the clear opening at the bottom and at the top for the garage door opener. They are now producing a more generic version which is the full IR coating with heating option and just the opening at the top for the garage door opener. If you are able to find one in the States with both opening as your original, then consider yourself lucky because they are very few available.

Silver50, On the IR windshileds there is no tint on the upper portion. At least, there wasn't on my Original nor Replacement full IR windshield.

Many thanks for the above replies!I don't think my car has an IR windshield-

It seems to be one of those things that you start questioning after the event-but I thought that when inside my car it seemed the top portion of the screen was somehow darkening out light

Would anyone agree or would you say that your windshield looks clear all over when inside the car?

I thought all 750s originally came with IR windshields :/

With mine, it appears to look uniform all the way throughtout unless you look at where the non-coated area is, the non-coated area is fractionally lighter but that is just a small square area.

If you don't have one and you can get one, do it - you'll notice a word of difference in heat comfort.
