I got the AutoLoc unit. Its great. I wouldnt let a shop install it though, its far to easy to install, and far to easy for a shop to scratch/mangle something.

People still use alarms...

So would remote central locking be easy to do? Have you actually removed the locks on your car CJ? I would like to do that, for a more secure and smooth look.
A bit OT, but does anyone have remote ignition installed in there car? I would like to fit that in my car, but it would probably be part of a kit, such as a Clifford Cat 1 (remote central locking, alarm, immobiliser, remote start, microwave sensor)
As while Im travelling along the electronic route, does anyone have power windows in their car? I would also like to do that, so long as it doesn't add too much weight.

Yes I did remove the locks. I also have electric windows, the kit was made by SPAL and I dought it even weighes 2 pounds total.

What if you forget to turn your lights off and you lock the door, and you do not remember until the next day.
Your battery would be dead, how would you unlock the doors?

Dear Mr. Smartypants,

I have the Optima Yellow Top Deep Cycle Battery. I also have the battery in the trunk. And as an extra precaution since I knew you would be asking this, I have even hard wired the power wire from the lock kit so I can "bump" it with a source if somehow my battery got stolen and I needed to get my dog out of the car before he cooked with out breaking the window.

Sincerely,

Blitzed

The first step would to be smart enough to not let the above happen. And I can not think of a time I have used the keyless entry to lock the doors before I close them and am outside of the vehicle. If the above happened I think the person responsible should deserve to sit there and have to call a locksmith to have their car broken into. I would imagine that the above scenario would include the driver forgetting to put his or her pants on before exiting the car and leaving their cellphone in their pocket. I bet the launch codes for all the ICBM's in the US would be in the E21 as well.

It was more of a joke than anything.
I was not meaning to attack anybody.

I had a unique 1 in a million problem with my e-36, I had just got home from the store, had the dog in one arm stuff in the other, left the keys in the ignition in the off position (had then been in the acc position this would not have heppened) about that time my wife realized she had washed the remote, took it out and mashed all the buttons, the transmitter fired one last time locked the doors and the transmitter fried. my wife had also misplaced the spare key to boot....so I had to order a new key and wait a week. So there is always a chance something freakish can happen with remote locks....

are they fairly easy to install? from the point of a person who doesn't know much.

I think they are specifically made for that type of person.

If you have owned an e21 for any amount of time it should be a simple install.

can't you just ge the stuff from a wrecked e30? they are all power locks but the early model 318. a buddy used all the stuff i pulled out of my track e30 and put it in his chevy truck and it worked fine
