oil barrels are up to $70. The highest in history. They're normally around $50. Gas is going to be insane tomorrow.

goodbye $2.80, hello $4.20!

I got out there tonight and everyone was driving like crap. I spent a lot of time in 4th gear. Nice thing about the rain... zero speed traps, just watch your rearview, watch the on ramps and drink gas like it's going out of style.

Don't go driving if this thing actually gets up there. I imagine it's pretty weak now, but the rain was pretty intense here for a few hours.

Storm surge was about 20 ft, which was a bit crazy seeing waves go over the top of the roof of our pier.

Besides that and the few big pieces of Live Oak that fell it wasn't too eventful. I was going to go out and mess around on the beach during it, but given that there wasn't any sand showing and 8 ft waves crashing into bulkheads I decided against it.

Smart choice...I feel bad for all those news reporters that are about to get blown away like a piece of paper in 140MPH winds...although I got a good chuckle when a piece of roof from a nearby building almost smacked the FOX news reporter in the face....

Gas at the Exxon out the window of my office building (Piedmont & Lindbergh) is $2.89 for premium. By my house, it's still about $2.75. I'm really dreading when it gets over $3.00...

I'm enjoying my new car so much, I tend to push the gas pedal a little too hard at times, which is probably the main reason I'm getting like 17 MPG. Ouch. I never really thought gas prices would get high enough to bother me. OK, now I'm bothered a little bit. I'm going to be spending like $300/month on gas!

unfortunately I cant bring myself to put anything but supreme in, so it stings a little yes. Plus, the gas mileage is better putting in the higher octane, which will probably save you money in the long run.

Anybody put anything other than supreme in their cars?

True story. The ladyfriend and I nearly were taken out by a hydroplaning pick-up on I-20 yesterday. I saw the thing drifting to us from the side with the wheels turned at full lock and the front tires motionless. I told her to gun it and we pulled just ahead of it it before it came into our lane, settled back down, and jerked back across the interstate. Two cars hit it head on; the first more of a tap and push but the second (which was another lane over and didn't see it coming) smacked it pretty good.

All jobbers(people who provide gas to gas stations) are on a quota system from today. Regardless of what the price is right now(which is/will be higher than ever), the Jobbers will be charged at a minimum of 35-45 Cents per gallon on top of the peaking prices if they go over their set quota on a daily basis. No gas station can get what they want, but what they can get. The supply is temporarily cut off, completely, and therefore regardless of the price, quantities will be limited in the next few days. My suggestion, find the cheapest gas, and fill up. www.atlantagasprices.com has the latest pricing in your area, but it looks very uncertain right now. Even if supply is restored, winter months are not that far off, and the prices will probably stay in the higher range (>2.49/Gallon). In the next 6-12 months, we should hit close to $4.00/Gallon which is still less than what most people pay around the world. In Canada it is $0.96-$0.99/Liter. That translates roughly into $4.00 Gallon. May the force be with us all.

talked to my girlfriends mom @ citgo corporate in texas again. they are expecting another 35-45 cent increase in the next 24 hrs if not sooner.
so i went and bought 3 5 gallon gas cans. filled them up for safe keeping. cost me 42$!! cheapest place i could find was 278 and that was at the citgo on central ave in hapeville.
every walmart i went to was out of gas cans. autozone had 4 5 gallons left when i called. 5 minutes later when i got there they had 3 left so i went ahead and bought all 3

I filled up 2 days ago, and just topped off again just now. On the way to a suitable station, 2 were closed completely, and all the ones on the side of the big streets are over $3.35. I found a small station that was doing premium for $3.01. Anyways, while i'm pumping up, the attendants pushed everyone on the other side of the station away, because that side of the station ran out of gas. The reservoirs are running dry!!!!

Sheeple is EXACTLY the right word for it.

I rode past 3 PACKED gas stations right by the highway and came to an EMPTY one 2 miles down the road. My dad called me and told me there are places in Atlanta charging $5/gal, luckily I didn't see any of that.

The bike gets 40 mpg, too... and that's FLOGGING it. :buttrock

Well, it's not 40, but a MINI gets ~32 on the highway, ~28 in town. I was sorely tempted on the way back from dinner to run a couple of circles around some of the gas stations we passed by, honking & laughing at the panicking morons in their behemoth SUVs... :finger22

While we didn't do that, we did look and smile at them really big as we passed. Those who saw us doing so looked on with a mix of resigned disgruntlement and outright envy. :D

I'm even giving serious thought to augmenting the "fleet" with a Honda scooter. In my insomniac state last night/this morning, I surfed their site, and they have some really nice scooters with body covers that, at a glance, look for all the world like a touring bike!

And if I understand things correctly, at 49 cc, they're moped-qualified in GA, so it's essentially buy & ride. :redspot

On Towne Lake Parkway yesterday...a Chevron was charging $6.04/gallon for premium (and in the $5's for regular and mid grade). There were people banging on the door, and the little arabic guy in there had locked it up and put a piece of paper that said "Debit or Credit cards at pump only"...i mean really, these animals that gouge the prices that high are seriously disgusting. Taking advantage of a time when people are on edge because of a big storm that destroyed alot of lives and property, and then when a leak of "gas shortage" gets out...they start fucking people in the ass that dont have the sense to understand that this will even itself back out, and if you drive a few blocks down the road theres probobly someone with some business morality.

I hate to sound prejudice, but my observation was that the gas stations that were owned by arabic people were the ONLY ones jacking prices to rediculous levels. The Quicktrip right near my house had high prices (like $3.59/gallon i think it got up to) but nothing higher...and that was for premium.

What is it with all the dumbasses in this city? There is NO shortage! If everyone buys gas the same day, especially in the same concentrated time period, gas stations WILL run out. If there was a shortage then why do I continue to see tanker trucks on the road? They don't just drive around for the hell of it.....

This is nothing but hype.

The media creates a super hype...when they see an outlet that they can leak something possibly "catastrophic", even if it has no validity to it, they'll release it. Its a good % of the reason there were so many big to do's during the war...making up stories, over dramatizing things to a point of mass hysteria...there comes a time when you have to turn off the news, get up off your ass and just go drive around or play with your kids in the front yard...had 90% of these idiots done something other than flock to radio's and televisions all day for their source of entertainment, you'd have seen alot less fucking moronic gas guzzling, and a whole lot more laughter...

My dad was telling me back in the 80's, this same sort of thing happened when Saudi Arabia and the U.S. were having problems...he said one day the news and radio were telling everyone that the government gave civilians 8 hours to purchase gas and then lines would be shut off to military personel only...people went ape shit, my dad said i was just a kid, and we went out to the field and threw the baseball around...and he watched one by one as the people in their driveway drove the the gas station and came back in a panic because the stations had sold out...then 2 days later...all was semi-normal again.

People remain stupid through the decades...its one of this consistant things.

you fools. It's called CAPITALISM. If the stations had all been allowed to jack up the price to $10/gallon yesterday, it MIGHT have made people think twice about sitting for an hour just for the privilege to pay it. Maybe they would have waited 'till today. Maybe they wouldn't be buying gas cans and filling them all up (those of you who did this.... :rolleyes ). Maybe next time they wouldn't wait until the tank is dry every time before they go to the station.

THERE IS NOT A SHORTAGE. The "shortage" was only created because everyone went nuts yesterday. It'll be fine by tomorrow. Too bad we couldn't have let the law of supply and demand prevent this from happening.
