Zanardi wins a WTCC race in a BMW 320i. It's amazing what he has had to do to race again.

That sincerely makes my day. I've long been a fan of Alessandro. He's seems so down to earth. His story has been a real inspiration for me. Throughout all this ordeal he has never expressed any self pity, at least not publicly. He's done what he has had to do and not created a media event around it. He's one of the true and few nice guys.

He's someone for me to remember when I am training for or running a marathon. I thank God for legs that work.

This one is for you Alessandro! :drink1

great for him, I was dissapointed that he did so poorly in F1, but hopefully after all he's been through he's back to being competitive.

I salute his spirit. Truly a great inspiration and Human being.

Said Zanardi of his amazing return to competitive racing: "The last image people had when they switched the television off was me being taken away in a helicopter, leaving a big trace of blood on the circuit. The next thing they see of me, I'm driving another car flat-out. It's obvious that the first thought they have is, 'That's a miracle!'"

On Letterman, incase you missed it.

the one thing that comes to mind when thinking of zanardi is the pass.

Herta still doesn't know what happened. :) THE PASS (http://www.raceart.net/alex_zanardi_brian_herta_cart_ch.htm)

Zanardi had another serious accident at Spa in 1993. His crash at Eau Rouge was so severe that doctors advised him to retire. He had no broken bones, but suffered serious internal & soft tissue damage.

Jeez, look at that pic. what happened to his harness?

I don't know. It was during a practice session, so maybe he didn't have the entire harness in use.

There was a pretty scary moment afterwards, too. Andretti was the next one through Eau Rouge, and he stopped in the middle of the track. Senna was next through, but he saw Andretti at the last moment and spun the car into the guardrail to avoid him. When his car finally stopped, he was only a couple of feet away from Zanardi's car.

I don't see them in the photo, but I imagine they are still in place. Harnesses stretch and so does the human body. That's why people shouldn't wear open face helmets.

They stretch to absord the impact so that your organs aren't just thrown against your insides.

Also called the third or tertiary collision.

Zanardi has and always will be a true competitor.
Alex just had to find another way to feed his passion for racing, and for winning.
I to have been a fan for many years, and am very glad that Alex is back in the action.
These are the stories that you feel really good to read.
