2002forlife 08-28-2005, 01:17 PM My father bought the car brand new in 76 She folded my right rear corner panel .The damage is between 2400-3700. Depending which body shop I go to.
I am looking for away to appraise the car so her insurance company doesnt try to total it!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont know or care how much it is worth otherwise.I will never sell the car it would be nice to retain value though. And I know it shouldnt be hard to show the car is woth more but i dont know where to go and I dont personally have many receipts etc.

fjord7302 08-28-2005, 03:15 PM I don't think you'll have much of a problem. Where in the bay area are you?

99M3Riverside 08-28-2005, 03:50 PM You will probably need to prove the value. Try looking in Roundal or some place for some very prestine examples of 2002. You will need to prove it is worth more than $5-7K probably to keep it from being a total loss. One problem is some new parts for the repair might not be available.

TTe30m3 08-28-2005, 04:25 PM it's a magazine that members of the bmwcca get for free
HarryPR 08-28-2005, 07:17 PM Try searching under BMW CCA Roundel (with an "e", not an "a").
Also, try Hemmings Motor News, ebay and

Good Luck!
fjord7302 08-28-2005, 08:17 PM Go to the Bay Area 02 site. I believe there's Auto Dynamic in the city that might be able to help you out. Were you and your dad at the gathering a couple weeks ago? I was parked next to a brown '02.

John W 08-29-2005, 06:56 PM If it comes down to it and they do total your car, all may not be lost. My 76 was rear ended and totalled a couple of years ago and I got a settlement from the insurance company. They let me keep the car and the title. My car was too bad to fix, but I could have conceivably footed the repair bills myself to get the car back on the road. A lot states won't make you get a salvage title after an accident if the car is past a certain age.
I hope you don't have to go this route and best of luck!
2002forlife 08-30-2005, 06:46 PM Fuck state farm they are trying to total the car. Im not 100% yet but the adjuster said the car was woth" around 2 grand". Needless to say my bloodpressure went up just alittle. We will see though. Ill get a lawyer if I have to then they can pay for that and the day I have to take off work to sue there ass.
fjord7302 08-30-2005, 10:38 PM All the body shop did in my case was let State Farm know of the condition of my vehicle. The adjuster came out to confirm and ok'd the work. The estimate was about 4k by the time they added in the new grills, headlight bucket, etc.

vtbimmer 08-31-2005, 03:16 PM I had my '02 appraised for insurance purposes. There were two choices- Basic appraisal- no reciepts neccesary, appraiser looks over vehicle, does a little research and comes up with a written value. Cost $60.00 or a Full appraisal- reciepts, pictures, ect. $150.00. I went with a basic. I paid $7,500.00 for the '02 5 months ago and just by looking at it he did a written appraisal for $15,000.00!!!
You should be able to do the same thing. At least explain to the person your situation and they should be able to write one higher than the totaled value.
Good luck. I hate insurance companies!
2002forlife 09-06-2005, 02:07 PM I just got off the phone with the adjuster my car is worth a lot more then they thought 4100. Which is still lowball but more then enough for me to repair my baby. Thanx for the support guys. :redspot :buttrock
2002maniac 09-06-2005, 02:54 PM Cool! I didnt think they would fix it. Consider yourself lucky. I was going to suggest finding a new shell and transferring your parts to it, but this is even better!
2002forlife 09-06-2005, 06:01 PM :rolleyes they still wont let me go to the body shop I want to go to however. The labor rate is to high. Allstate (AllSCAM) will only cover 75 an hr. My body shop is somewhere around 88. Understandable I guess though. :mad
Lupin3 09-06-2005, 08:32 PM I'm glad to hear your car won't be junked.
I wonder if you can pay for the labor difference out of your own pocket, if it's worth it?
Consider getting a "stated value" insurance policy for your Bimmer. I'm having mine appraised tomorrow to qualify for a stated value that more closely resembles what I paid for it.
According to State Farm, even if the car is hit by someone else whose insurance will only pay book (around 6k), State Farm will pay me my stated value (around 10k) and sue the other driver's insurance company.
fjord7302 09-06-2005, 09:27 PM They (insurance company) cannot tell you where to get the repair done. It's not legal!
Cris
2002forlife 09-08-2005, 01:06 PM Dont get Allstate!!! Allstate conducts surveys of labor rates in different geographics, from their findings they create what the "average" labor rate is and will not pay any higher!! Thus not letting you go to whatevetr body shop you want to go to. You still have the right to go where you want they just wont pay the labor rate you have to cover the difference. Allstate is the only insurance company doing this and yes it is illegal.
2002maniac 09-08-2005, 03:55 PM If this makes you feel any better, I think ALL insurance companies suck and they will ALL try to screw you.
