View Full Version : oh oh... now they want 10% over MSRP
This really gripes me, because the first sales person said there would be no mark up. He went to another dealership and passed our information to another sales person.
I really hate that they are doing this, yet I really want the car. On the other hand, if we all pay the extra, we are contributing to this rip off.
What to do? what to do?
(I had that salesperson go back to the manager, telling them that this WASN'T the deal we agreed on. They are supposed to get back to me Monday.)
Kyle K. 07-25-2002, 06:47 PM The dealers were told my MINI USA to NOT mark up the cars. They don't want it to become another miata situation where people are payin ridiculous amounts and nobody can get them for the advertised price. I think there is a dealership in VA that actually has a couple S's on the lot at the moment... I'll check into it...
Preppy 07-25-2002, 08:56 PM What dealer are you talking about Kyle?
Kyle K. 07-25-2002, 10:06 PM I've been looking on mini2.com boards for a damn long time for the thread but I can't find it. Somebody said something about a dealership in VA that had 2 or 3, but this was about a week ago....
Sorry to get your hopes up ;)
Preppy 07-25-2002, 11:09 PM Oh, time to go driving tomorrow in No. Virginia :D
My dad loves them and he is looking for a daily driver for my mom. They don't want to put too many miles on the s500 ;)
Well, I am still hoping they don't slap the extra 10 percent on... they even *Said* they didn't want to be like Chrysler & the PT Cruisers. I wish our local BMW dealership was a Mini dealer. They NEVER, EVER mark up stuff. Not even the M3s and M5s.
badbadm 07-26-2002, 08:29 AM Deb, was this Roadshow or Nashville who's marking it up 10%?
Preppy 07-26-2002, 03:40 PM Yeah, I am hoping they stick to their word and won't mark it up 10%. If they do, it's not going to look good for them :nono
The Beastmaster 07-28-2002, 03:34 AM I know they're having problems with their MINI deliveries in Alabama and Tennessee. Why not go for a road trip? Pick up in NY @ Westchester or someplace in Florida. Actually, check the boards at roadfly.com and Mini2.com and you'll be pointed in the right direction.
Universal MINI in LA is asking $6k over MSRP! Damn pirates!
Preppy 07-28-2002, 01:26 PM Yeah, or maybe a roadtrip to a state where the sales of BMW/Mini's might not be in such high demand
SilverStreak 07-29-2002, 07:37 AM Deb, have you signed any paperwork yet? Anything? Loan App, credit check, pre-sales order, anything? If so, mention the word "lawyer"... Call Mini USA or BMW NA and tell them, they baited and switched you, told yo all along MSRP, now after the order is in and you're waiting, this mysterious 10% comes into play.
If they wanna mark up the car, they should tell you up front, then it's your decision to play or not. But you went thru the process this time all along being told MSRP only, and then after the order is placed they spring this 10% mark up on you-- that's not cool....
We faxed them the specifics and they took $1000 deposit so far... sounds like (from roadfly) that Memphis may be the place to go if they don't do me right. Greg (my SO) handled the papers, so I am not sure what he has actually signed. I feel confident that we can get the $1000 back (it was on a credit card and that will be a help if problems arise). We will see.... I am hoping they make me smile today, and not have to threaten them...but I have ammunition lined up if they try to screw me over. :evil2
badbadm 07-29-2002, 09:34 AM Keep us posted.
SilverStreak 07-29-2002, 11:42 AM If you put money down, you did so under the understanding that it was MSRP, verbal contracts are also binding. If you play hardball, you should be able to get them to honor their word at MSRP.
I'd still think about a call to the owner or GM of the dealership, and maybe a call to MiniUSA, etc...
Keep us posted!
YES!!!! I just heard from Mini of Nashville. NO markups, NO add ons! Apparently the salesperson was inexperienced or something. Anyway, Larry said there would be nothing more than MSRP!
:)
I am back to being a happy (future Mini) camper!
:) :) :) :) :) :)
badbadm 07-30-2002, 11:35 AM Excellent.
Kyle K. 07-30-2002, 01:36 PM
Thats sweet man! Pictures are demanded when you get it!
edit: nevermind.... I figured it out ;)
Caymandiver75 07-30-2002, 01:43 PM I'm interested in seeing a picture of it when you finally get the mini.
You bet. Pictures will be forthcoming. Now I need to sell the Integra... :(
SilverStreak 07-30-2002, 04:45 PM That's great new, Deb! Awesome! :buttrock
