Hello all, first time poster and possible future 325i owner. I've been going back and forth between the 325i and the G-35 Coupe for some time now and am not sure I'm any closer to making an absolute decision than when I started. One day I like the bimmer, the next the G-35.
I finally got to test drive the 325i today and it was very nice indeed. However, to be honest I thought it would be much better than the G, but I found them to be very close. Keep in mind I'm also talking about the coupe, not the sedan, so I'm not really comparing apples to apples. The G was much quicker of course and the 3 handled better. Ride comfort was about the same with the G having a softer suspension, but the 325i had better feeling seats.
I've made a self imposed limit of $35,000 and am trying to stay as close to my budget as possible. As you know each has their advantages and disadvantages, but I can definatley get many more options with the G. But, the 325i is a 06, has a 6 speed (looking for A/T), gets better highway gas mileage, 1% better residual (I'm leasing), etc., etc. I know you've probably herad this a kazillion times.
I've got a couple of questions/obsrvations and hope you guys can comment and help me out.
Audio systems - In my price range the 7 logic is pretty much not an option. IMO, the stock stereo in both cars sucks. Even the premium system in the G is terrible (Bose). Just played both with radio, maybe their better with a CD?
Color - I really want the Graphite with black interior, but that would mean a special order (new ones are going up $600 on list) or going out of town. Local dealer has black and blue, both with tan leatherette. Said he's getting a silver in tomorrow (which would be my second choice), but it also has a tan interior. I can't seem to picture tan with silver. Black or grey, but tan? I've never seen a car with this color combination. Anyone seen this? If so, what did you think?
Interior materials - Leatherette looks O.K. to me and I really don't have a problem with how it looks. However, during the test drive I felt my back kind of stuck to the seat and I have never experienced this with real leather. Have you also noticed this, or is it just becuase it's new and needs a break-in period?
Sport Package - I really like the looks with the bigger wheels and lower stance, but don't know if I can handle the stiffer suspension. I'm 48 years old and although I still enjoy and nice sporty car, I don't want a bad ride. They didn't have a sport for me to test, so I'm hoping you can tell me how they compare, seats and all.
Warranty/repair work - I've been told that if I buy from a non local dealer that I will not get the loaner car from mine if the car is in the shop. My bank said they had heard that to get the laoner you had to take it back to the dealer you bought it from.
Price - $500 off of list + mats is the best I can do. Tried hard, but that's it.
I have other cars, but I sold my bike, so this is going to be my new baby. It will be used most of the time for local commutes, but I do plan to use it for long trips as well. I'd really like to hear your recommendations on what packages, etc. you have and how you like them.
Thanks.
