View Full Version : More Dinan SC questions
paul e 08-26-2005, 05:31 PM Hey guys.. My saga looks like its almost finished .. George has been keeping me abreast, and today, the car was buttoned back up after finally getting the blower back from Vortech a couple days ago. He is going to replace the plugs, and a bad O2, and it should be good to go tomorrow :redspot
In the meantime, someone was good enough to draw my attention to another Dinan SC issue someone had with smoke out the back.. As you read, his case seems to be different from mine. But it makes you wonder about Dinan SC kits a little.. At least, it does me.

dinans3m3 08-26-2005, 11:42 PM Paul you should eliminate the 3 way PVC valve and oil/ air separator if you can still get to it, and run the hose from the valve cover to the mini filter then to the blower thermoplstic intake. They serve no purpose. You must then block off the hole where the oil/air separator grommet plugged in prior to removal. I was informed that this serves no real purpose and eliminating any unecessary items would help eliminate any future problems of the sort.

Actually, Boris pointed out to me a couple years ago how that was a bad news device.. Last August, Nick confirmed it, when he pulled it out of my car, did essentially what youre talking about.. Ive been running that way for this last year.
markesq 08-27-2005, 09:58 AM Are you talking about that little can thing on top connectec to the pipe right before the charger?
Croak 08-27-2005, 10:10 AM No, he's talking about the one-way valve that goes from the PCV to the dipstick. You know, that little bit of engineering that Dinan did for a reason.
markesq 08-27-2005, 10:31 AM Since I have a Powerdyne, would I not have that?

When I installed my brand new Dinan kit almost 2 years ago, I found that one of the bolts holding the Vortech halves was loose, as in turn it with your finger. I thought at first that it was loose because a mounting bracket was supposed to go there. Once I found out otherwise, I had to take the SC out in order to get to the loose bolt. I thought that it might have been a Monday morning assembly, but maybe Vortech is skipping Q/A.

Actually, the valve im talking about is a 3 way valve located on one side by the hose coming off the valve cover, on another side by a length of hose from the 3-way valve to the cyclone separator, and on the third side, by hose from the 3-valve to the Intake side of the blower. It is 'run' by a vacuum hose to a nipple on its topside off the manifold.. Under absence of vacuum, it remains shut forcing vapors to the intake side of the blower; under vaccum, its 'sucked' open, forcing vapors down to teh cyclone separator. A pic is attached for your reference. And heres also a diagram of how someone depicted the replumb, removing the breather control valve were talking about. I dont think this sketch is complete, but it gives a rough idea ...
This is the valve that I dont think RMS uses, and its replaced by plugging that nipple on the cyclone separator. All vapors are funneled back to the intake side of the blower when its removed.
croak.. are you saying you think this valve is a good idea? Or are you speaking of another valve? I dont think rms uses anything like it does it?
Jim M3 08-28-2005, 11:54 AM There is that Damn valve rearing its ugly head again. I went through three of them before I got smart and said, why do I want to send boost back into the crankcase? It ruined two cyclone seperators in a matter of 3 months as well. Problematic, YES, necessary NO. I route mine just like Pauls to the intake side of the thermoplastic. No more issues. The factory cyclone seperator isn't necessary with this set up.
