View Full Version : 1990 535i 5speed for sale
E34Lover 08-26-2005, 04:06 PM ok since the motor "blew up" i have yet to pull it out and look. I am considering selling it, im looking for you guys to throw me some offers as to how much I can really expect to see. Other then the blown engine, it is good, I have a bunch of parts that Im going to install before the sale..such as thrust arm 740i bushings, control arm bushings, rear mounts and bushings, among some other suspension parts. It has 150k or so on the clock(need to double check), tan interior, with dark green paint. Again, it is a 5 speed manual 535i, from what I understand, they are pretty hard to come by. So throw me some offers and Ill see what I want to do...Im located in Kingston NY..1.5 hours straight up the thruway from the city. Call me for serious inquires. 845 224 4881

flyeryan 08-29-2005, 01:17 AM 800 bucks isn't a bad offer, IMHO.
If you're going to part it out, PLEASE PM me. There are a few things I need, like fog lights...
E34Lover 08-29-2005, 12:01 PM the day i part out a early 1990 535i 5 speed is the day pigs fly out of my ass...it looks like im going to fix the car and sell it...
E34Lover 08-29-2005, 01:36 PM so when i fix it it will have many many new parts and i will prob end up getting a short block and putting new rod and main bearings in it before it goes in..so im looking for $4000 OBO keep in mind..its a 5 speed...

lol, all it needs is a new motor... Nice sales pitch. Really, I don't think a high maintenance, luxury car from 1990 with a blown motor is worth anything. $800 is a generous offer. Btw, what is "blown" about the motor?
xatlas0 08-29-2005, 02:24 PM Yeah, replacing a motor runs from 2k-6k, depending on how new you purchase and where you go for labor. considering the car is worth 5k tops when running, there is very little chance you will be able to get the price you want in its current state.

This is definately your best bet if you want any money out of it. Having been looking at 535s off and on for the last year and a half, I'd say you can get $5-6500 for it, if it looks and runs great.
With a blown motor and nice body/interior you'd be lucky to get $2000 for it. Most people don't want the headache, and those that are willing to fix want the screaming deal.
Good luck with whichever way you decide to go. It would be a fun car to have.

Make sure you have the head check when you have it apart also, because if your description is correct (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=403008 ) and you threw a rod, there is a pretty good chance it might have smacked the head. No since in spending a lot of time and money and then having to tear the head off a second time.

My car has a sound engine and drivetrain, and I only paid $2k for it... And it's an early 1990 535 5spd (manufactured 1/1990). I didn't know the early 90's were more rare than the late 90's.
