View Full Version : how to replace internal belt (dinan/PD s/c)(what do these s/c setups sell for ,more,,
MJW7800 08-26-2005, 12:36 AM well i finally broke the internal belt on my dinan powerdyne s/c
so i ordered a new one(kevlar belt)off ebay
well i took off the s/c and im ready to install the new one
but how do i take it apart?
i guess i have to unbolt the pully thats on the outside,,and i allready took off the 15 or so allen head bolts,,but its not seperating
is there a trick to it??any tips would b great
also this s/c was rebuilt at 85,000 miles at PD,,and now the car has 98,000 miles
its not that big of a deal,,it wasnt hard to take off,,but i just hope its pretty easy to take apart the s/c and install the new belt
also since i have this off the car,,how much are these things going for used???
i figured id ask since im selling my car anyway,,,to someone,,or a dealership,,
and just wanted to see what they may bring
i would have to take off the big bracket that holds it,,cuz right now its still mounted
also,,what else would i have to take off to sell to the next person?
i know the PD units are not wanted as much ,,but i figure id try to get a est of how much i may b able to get,,or have someone offer me a lil money
if i was gonna keep the car,,i would trade it in on the new PD gear drivin,,and i think they give u like a 600$$ off on the new PD unit
i have a couple pics i would like someone to tell me what they are
ill post the pics soon
i just have 1 line i dont know what it was for ,,that was connected to the air intake tube right before the filter
thanks mike
MJW7800 08-26-2005, 01:41 AM heres the pics
what is that black line,,with the silver canister on it??it was going to a part on the air filter pipe

and this pic above u can see i took off the allen head bolts,,but i guess i need to take off the pully,,
and it should seperate???right?
so i can change the belt??
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b14/MTW00/100_4819.jpg
its the upgraded version pd also,,
older ones i have seen had no holes up top,,with mesh on it,,and had prob's
so pd made vents like this
heres a pic of everything installed

MJW7800 08-26-2005, 07:30 AM also
does the stock m3 come with a crank pully for just 2 belts???
i have a crank pully for 3(the extra being for the s/c)
so if i just take off the belt that ran the s/c
the car will run the same,,since that extra belt just went up to the pully that was on the outside of the s/c???
just wanted to make sure,,cuz im just gonna ut the stock airbox on will i get the new belt in
the car ran fine with the s/c on there,,and the broke belt
but since i have the s/c off,i wanted to still drive it,,and not harm anything
thanks mike
markesq 08-26-2005, 08:15 AM So what are you doing? Rebuilding or taking it off?
Those cases are just stuck together real good. Keep prying and they will seperate.
Used PD's go for between $300-$550. Ones that need to be re-built $200-$400.
The car will run rich without the charger the software is geared for the extra air. So at WOT fuel is being dumped in to compensate.
markesq 08-26-2005, 09:49 AM Yes, you have to take pulley off, and those other bolts on top.
markesq 08-26-2005, 09:49 AM You are replacing the bearing also, right?
MJW7800 08-26-2005, 05:49 PM no im just lookin to replace the belt
the whole supercharger was rebuilt at 85,000 miles,,,at powerdyne
so i would hope its still good
do u think i need new bearings????
also,,i can just put a filter on the end of the intake and drive it fine without that 3rd belt hooked up right?
since the belt i took off only went up to the s/c
thanks mike
MJW7800 08-27-2005, 12:37 PM well i put the intake back on,,without the s/c ,,and pully for it
and the car wont hold an idle
so ill just wait to get the new belt on
is there any detailed instructions anywhere about how to just replace the belt??
thanks
markesq 08-27-2005, 05:14 PM That really doesn't make much sense. My belt broke and the car ran fine.
MJW7800 08-27-2005, 07:20 PM yeah,,my car ran fine also,,with all the piping,,and s/c hooked up
but now that u have the s/c off,,and the belt that ran to the s/c from the crank,,it wont hold a idle
even tho i put the intake back to the motor,,
dont know
im just gonna wait for the new belt
i dont need to drive it anyway
any other thoughts
markesq 08-27-2005, 07:31 PM Do you have the HFM connected?
MJW7800 08-27-2005, 07:32 PM sorry,,but whats a HFM??
markesq 08-27-2005, 07:34 PM The air flow sensor. It would be right before the air filter.
MJW7800 08-27-2005, 07:39 PM yes,,that 2 inch size piece that twists onto the filter pipe right????
if thats a hfm,,then yeas it was hooked up
ill check it all tomorrow
but it twisted right on,,
there was a small gap between a section of the pipe where it wasnt flush with the other section
u know it was like a 3 inch outlet,,going into a 4 inch inlet
so there was some space,,but i figured id just try it
could that of been the prob
not a tight seel between all the pipes of the filter to the motor????
i may take some pics too
but i just figured it would work
any other tips to try??
thanks mike
MJW7800 08-27-2005, 07:45 PM do u see that silver thing,,with the black tube from it,,in all the pics??
i have that hooked back up to the intake tube,,would that not be there on a reg cold air intake??
could someone tell me what that is???
thanks
MJW7800 08-27-2005, 08:46 PM ok,,well i fixed it,,i guess it does need to b a nice tight seal from the filter to the motor
i got a rubber 3 inch inlet/outlet so i could put that in place of the 4 inch inlet,,3 inch outlet i had
now she idles fine
a lil poppy,,but it will b fine till i get the new belt
i also took the casing apart on the s/c,,
is there anything i should double check before i put the new belt on
like i said the whole s/c was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago
but id like to check everything once over whgile i have it off
thanks mike
markesq 08-27-2005, 09:01 PM You should replace the bearings.
@bgynite@ 08-28-2005, 06:20 PM check out this site.
http://home.wi.rr.com/planestang/Zsupercharger_rebuild.htm
also my belt broke again and again so i went with the new xb1a powerdyne gear driven s/cer it can make up to 18psi. and just fits in place of the older model.
ill tell ya how it turns out when it ships in.
MJW7800 08-28-2005, 06:42 PM thanks
i guess i gotta find someone with a bearing puller
i was hopeing the belt would go on easy without to much other work
i have looked into that new PD s/c also
u can get them for about 1200$$ plus a trade of the older BD11A
or 1800$$ new
but im sellin the whole car,and im not gonna try to put money into the car,,when right now the car is for sale for 18,000$$ and no one seems interested,or else id b doing that
thanks again
mike
