The other thread got too long. So if I recall we're meeting up for dinner Sat 8/24 (somewhere?), and making a visit down at Atco Raceway for the Test N Tune runs Sun 8/25 in the AM.

Who all is coming??

themadhatter
07-25-2002, 01:12 PM
as long as steaks are involved....I'll be there.

It's just another excuse to put a radio back in the 323is. :D

If it's overnight, I'll need to know which hotels are close.

Did Nikki give up on organizing this?

Stylin

it seems like everyone gave up but Dave.

07-25-2002, 01:42 PM
the orginizing was taken away from me when it was all in south jersey. i thought that dave was taking over. and i might not even be able to get there. i told you guys that a while ago.

SilverStreak
07-25-2002, 01:50 PM
I'm definitely not organizing this, I don't have the time or the knowledge of the area. I'm simply playing cheerleader here!

I'm working on the track thing, though, Jimmy is away that weekend, so no insider connections, but we can still meet up and get some runs in...

Phil, I know some hotels locally...

Stylin
07-25-2002, 02:18 PM
I dont know South NJ at all either so if its going to be there.. its gotta be you Dave.

SilverStreak
07-25-2002, 02:22 PM
the only part i was gonna handle was the track. since jimmy ain't in the picture any more, no special treatment, and if you guys are set on hitting the track, we could do E-town, i'm not opposed to that. someone else could/would have to set that up...

but i really don't have time to organize anything, and i don't even know south nj that well...

Stylin
07-25-2002, 02:32 PM
So lets go back up to the park where Nikki wanted to go and she can go back to arranging things..

Local places to meet and greet everybody?

I'd like to start compiling a list of dining and hotel choices, but I'm not sure how much people want to spend or what they would like to eat. Are people concerned with being fairly close to the raceway?

More importantly, I would like to get a count of (1) how many people are coming, (2) how many people would like to meet for diner and (3) how many people need a place to stay.

Thanks,

Dave? das? Ron?

My thoughts are that being closer to the track is better. If nobody else chimes in, plan on at least ME going. :D Me and my wife, that is. I will spend money for convenience and peace of mind (no ghetto motels). Not picky about the food, but das was planning on bringing some Omaha Steaks. Got a grill?

Thanks again for taking the lead.

So - what IS going on?

Talk of meeting, no one seems to know what to do or where to meet? By the time we all decide, it will be snowing outside! :D

:alright :boobies

So, what does everyone want to do?? Do you want to race, meet to BS, meet and race, meet & eat, meet, race, eat & BS?

C'mon, let's get something going here!! :)

I'm not one up for hard core drag racing (not yet anyhow), but going to the track would be cool. Even to watch, or learn some things from Dave would be interesting!

I'd be up for a meet and my best friend bmwmpower is up for a meet of sorts, and I am sure others here would like to get together to meet and have fun. So - what's on everyone's mind?

bmwmpower - are they still holding the auto-x event over there in Camden across from the Campbell's Stadium, or has there not been any recent events happening? Maybe that would be something that others would be interested in doing one day.

Well, let's get some ideas rolling around here - if everyone wants to meet up, start typing up some thoughts!

I seem to be taking the lead, but I need to know how many people will be requiring a place to stay. It looks like just M Roadster is the only one needing a place. If my house was built, you could stay with me, but it's still under construction (If Cobra was over there helping out more often, maybe it would be done by now ;). Oh well.

It would be interesting to see if Atco allows propane grills. If so, M Roadster could bring up some steaks. Again, if my damn house was built we could grill there. Oh well. I'll call Atco.

I'm thinking of us going to Champps on Rt. 70 in Marlton. Plenty of safe parking, great food, great bar, etc. About 20+ minutes from the track (most stuff is that far away anyway). Plus, we should have no problem getting enough space to sit - my brother is a "regular" if you will.

If no one else replies soon, M Roadster, I will send you the name of a couple of safe hotels in the area.

One of the initial purposes of this meet was to prove to some doubters that Dave's supercharged car CAN in fact run 11's. I also wanted to give Dave a chance to run my car down the track to get a decent benchmark of what it can do with its mods. We are planning on videotaping the session. In addition to that, it was thought that we could all share a meal and socialize either before or after the racing (or before AND after).

If all else fails, just give me a name of a nice hotel very close to Atco and I will go by myself. I just really need to track my car before I go down to Battle of the Imports in September.

I'm here, I've been off line since about 5pm or so last night. I think we were aiming for Sunday 8-25 and hitting the Test n Tune session in the morning. I think Atco has events on Saturday 8-24. My best track connection is away, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

And I really appreciate someone taking the lead on this one, I truly don't have the time, know-how, experience, etc, to set this up and do it justice... :)

Even if 8/24 is called off, I need a hotel near Atco because I'm coming up the day or night before so my car isn't super hot when it hits the track. So, someone please give me a hotel of choice and I will book a room for the wifey and myself. Maybe we all could meet at that hotel on the morning of 8/25 and roll out together.

Again, if you'll meet me up there, Dave, I will be there no matter if everybody and their mother shows or not. I need this track time. I gotta have this track time.

Cobra Jet
08-08-2002, 12:18 AM
Well,

I'm up for a meet, and my buddy Eric (bmwmpower) is up for the meet and is trying to organize this event somewhat.

The thing is, we need to know who all is 100% definitely going to show, or will come down for this 1st time meet. I am sure once the 1st meet takes place, and folks get to know each other, there will be more future meets in other areas of NJ.

It seems like there are alot of folks in the NJ area, but we are all spreadout. If we could organize this first meet and then go from there it would be cool. Even if some of you have to drive a little distance, getting to actually meet in person would be cool, if not fun.

As far as a hotel, Eric - were you able to find a local hotel that is close to Atco? I know there are a few nice hotels along Rte. 73 in the Northerly direction, near the new Cracker Barrel (hey, speaking of a place to meet with excellent food - there is a nice spot to meet as well). I think there are a few hotels near the raceway, but as far as quality & safe parking, I am not sure.

Let's get this thing rolling, I'm up for it and hopefully we can get a decent turn out and have some fun!!

Oh yea Dave - got my M3! Traded in the Cobra (in case you di not notice my new sig, and the prior thread I had posted the other day in the E36 forum). :D Now, you'll have to give me some guidance on what can be done with a future supercharger!

Here's my plan, I am going to get a hotel room for the night of 8/24. I just need that hotel information. On 8/25, my ass is waking up and driving over to Atco, NJ. I will run my car down the track. I will have lunch. I will chat. I will then return home.

It's pretty simple. I could alter plans on 8/24 and meet some folks if they decide to come up a day early too. Otherwise, I will just see everybody on 8/25.

Dave, how does this sound?

SilverStreak
08-08-2002, 08:24 AM
That all sounds good. Who else is coming from far away and needs to sleep over? Or is it just Phil? If the rest are somewhat local and just driving over for Sunday AM, we just need to give Eric a headcount for the track.

Note: All directions to follow...

Saturday, August 24th, 2002:
-------------------------------------

Everyone will meet for dinner at Champps (http://www.champps.com/) in Marlton, NJ at 6pm. There should be plenty of parking. Drive around the parking lot until you see an 87 325ic and a 95 M3, both black. Park next to them.

Closest hotel (10+ minutes from track, cheaper, smaller, fairly new):
Holiday Inn Express

311 SOUTH RT 73
BERLIN, NJ 08009
UNITED STATES
Local Phone: 1-856-767-7711

Next closest hotel (20+ minutes from track, a little more money, nicer, built within the last couple of years, safer)
Candlewood Suites
http://www.candlewoodsuites.com
4000 Crawford Place
Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054
Phone 856-642-7567
Fax 856-642-7568

Sunday, August 25th, 2002:
-----------------------------------

http://www.atcorace.com
According to the Atco Raceway schedule, Saturday and Sunday will be the IDRC Tri-State Nationals (starts at 8am Sunday according to schedule). I'm not sure if the track is open to the public at this event... Maybe Dave knows something I don't??

Cobra Jet
08-08-2002, 09:31 AM
Hmmm... an event at the track on those 2 days, I wonder if it will even be open to public racing?

I know for a fact they have street racing nights on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights. I am not 100% certain about the weekend, again, maybe Dave knows best since he has some connections over there. He could fill us in and let us know what is up.

If it is the case where the track cannot be used on those days, we could still meet there to see what's going on.

As far as directions are concerned, it appears that some folks will be coming from MD and the NY/PA areas. Eric stated directions will follow once he is able to get those posted.

This should be a cool get together. Trying to set up something for the first time is tough, but once all of the wrinkles are ironed out I'm sure most will be up for another meet and we can start meeting in different areas to get more folks involved (if interested).

SilverStreak
08-08-2002, 09:33 AM
Oh shit! That was not on the schedule back when we first started talking about this! (March/April)

See?!? Thank God someone took over the planning of this.... :(

Cobra Jet
08-08-2002, 09:55 AM
hmmm... I'm assuming the "oh shit" means that the public cannot use the track at all on those days...

dang it.... ok, so how should we work around this, any more thoughts/ideas? Maybe reschedule the track session for another time and still meet?

The colder it gets outside, the better your cars will run at the track... :alright ;)

SilverStreak
08-08-2002, 10:02 AM

I have a GTECH!

There are MANY meets here in NJ all the time acutally.. just noone here attends the meets.

The track is going to kick Dave and Phil's car off after the first run coz they dont have roll cages. So a track seems a bit pointless.

Just come to Atco on a dedicated night where street racing is available. I know it might be a pain, but if you leave work early or take the day off it's workable.

Yeah, I used to go to Atco all the time on Friday nights, it's a lot of fun, often crowded in the summer, but fun.

Sunday AM Test n Tunes are nice cuz it's less crowded, and my neighbor knows some of the officials that are on Sundays, so I get more than 1 run in usually if he goes with me (11's in a vert with no cage is a no-no).

///MINI

I'm open for anything. The biggest purpose for me was to witness an 11 second Z3 and capture the proof on video for all the doubters while also getting my car timed at the track.

I can be very flexible. I just need a date, track, and hotel.

See how complicated this all can become? Somebody make a decision and I'll stick to it.

SilverStreak
08-09-2002, 02:40 PM
Phil's easy that way (yet some how I'm PORNO Dave??? :dunno :D )

Sounds like 8/25 is off, if we want the track.

So somebody (Eric?) set up a new one, and we'll go from there...

Stylin
08-09-2002, 02:52 PM
why dont we wait for your friend Dave to be home so he can hook you up at the track?

SilverStreak
08-09-2002, 03:04 PM
You mean, Jimmy? Sure, we can do that. The biggest problem with Jimmy is that he's very "spur of the moment" it's very hard to get him to plan anything in advance, he's semi-retired, so he takes his play time very seriously.

And we need to set something up in advance for everyone to meet. Jimmy's always been a wild-card at best, but I have never gotten him to commit to anything more than 4 days in advance since I have known him...

I have a buddy with one, it is a blast to play with, no doubt! But for our purposes, (silencing some critics), I don't think "G-Tech Times" will do, for them.... heck, my timeslips weren't enough, they claimed I could have gotten them anywhere...

Video at the track is about the only irrefutable evidence that will do...

or some time slips! Mail a copy to me and I'll post it for u!

Altho its a bit hard to fake 11 seconds on a Gtech.. i dont think any of us can throw the thing that fast for a 1/4 mile.. :D

Atco Raceway - Friday, August 23rd, 2002 - 5:30PM
---------------------------------------------------------------

Finally. That's the date. That's the time. If everyone can plan on getting there @ 5:30PM, we should have no problem getting in several runs. I'll bring my mini DV, too, for backup footage, etc.

I will try to keep everyone posted on the weather and/or changes in Atco's schedule.

We can meet afterwords to eat or whatever or even the following day.

SOUND GOOD??

Directions to follow....

So who's going?

Note: It's not absolutely necessary to get there by 5:30, but the sooner you get there, the less crowded it is. Plan on getting in several runs. The track runs until 9:30-10PM.

Damn, that' some short notice. I think I can still do it. But, I thought you would have made it a LATER date rather than EARLIER.

Wait a minute... it's only a day earlier! No one balked at the previous date.

Here's the schedule:

You pick a date. How's that?

Willy, Phils car has about 10-20 more rwhp than mine, but also weighs a good 250 lbs (maybe 300 lbs or so, cuz he has no spare to remove, etc) more than my car. Plus he has 19" wheels with no sidewall to flex, versus my sticky drag radials, and his suspension is a good bit harder than mine, less dip at launch, etc, and judging that my 11.71 came in the Winter, and the best I've managed this summer is an 11.95, I'd say Phil's car is more a mid 12's car as it is.

Now you let me prep it for the track like I do my car, do some weight loss, slap on some DR's, etc, he'd be right next to me (with some practice!).

Fri 8/23 might be possible for me, but Friday nights in general are usually bad for me...

Is there an open weekend date?

bmwpower

Does Sunday, September 1st, 2002 work for anybody? This is the day before Labor Day, remember.

This date claims it's "Suzuki Motorcycle/KCS Junior Dragsters/Test & Tune", which I believe would still be open to everyone, including us. Most of the Test & Tune dates I've seen are anything but just "Test & Tune".

The problem lies in the fact that it seems impossible to get in touch with anyone at the raceway. I may have to just drive down there an talk to someone at the gate, but chances are, they will no nothing about scheduling.
