I know most people want to take a/c out of their cars, but I'm wondering if anyone has had a/c installed in their car?

I'd like to get an idea of how much to expect a professional installation would cost. I don't really care which of the systems, though I would prefer (marginally) an oem piece to vintageair or ice.

Thanks for any advice!

Yeah, that matches a quote I got - 4k all in. I figure most of that must be labor. Kinda makes gettting a non-a/c car a moot point.

my 74 has all that AC stuff on it -- including AC center consol --, but its not hooked up. Dono if its worth the trouble to get it working. Here in a month or so I might pull it out and put it up for sale.

Think you might want to try installing yourself?

I've wondered whether that was reasonable to try or not. I've basic mechanical skills, I can learn reasonably quickly.

Both Vintageair and Iceac claim their systems can be installed in a weekend or so...I suspect an original system might take a bit longer but it'd be worth it (I'd like to keep the car period perfect, if not totally original).

I'm googling for installation information at the moment, but haven't turned up much yet.

I don't know but all I'm sure is that a/c work, and tranny work is extremely expensive.

I have an old complete system of out a 2002 that was rear ended that I don't want... center console and all. I never put it on or anything but it all looks neat. I got the compressor from Edgar, he lives about 15 mins away from me.
