Hi,
I have a 1982 320i 1.8L with an aftermarket Turbo-BAE installed in 1983. I noticed an oil leak under the turbo and some oil in the air "outtake tube". Any suggestions on what I should do? Is there a kit to rebuild my turbo? Do I need a new one? Who can do this? Thanks so much,
Sincerely,
-Nick

Oil in the intake track is normal because of the PCCV system. Unless it is a ton of oil you should be ok. You can add an oil seperator to the PCCV system to catch it before it goes into the intake.
The oil leak under the turbo is probably the oil lines. Make sure the fittings are in good condition before you go rebuilding the turbo. Why spend 1100 bucks on a new turbo when it could be something simple.

Or those symptoms could describe the same thing that recently happened to the K27 in the 545i.
The turbo seals had blown and the center cartridge had to be replaced. It had partially filled the compressor snail with oil and was leaking oil into the turbine side. Poor idling was also a symptom as the engine was drawing extra air through the seals.
You might want to try Majestic Turbo out of TX. I have heard/read this is one of the only shops that still repair BAE units.

But Ray, lets check the cheap stuff first. No need to jump the gun.

who is jumping the gun?
I did say "or". He does have the choice of further checking the turbo if the hoses are not leaking. My experience was added as further help/hindrance for the troubleshooting.
And he did ask for a rebuilding source. So all of his questions were answered.
No harm, no foul.

I feel harmed... and from time to time I smell foul.
