WTF? :help

Why are there two hoses coming out of my gas tank? There's the normal one with the fuel tank sensor, and the strainer. That one leads to a clear hard plastic tube. There's also the little fuel filler overflow hose.
But about 6" to the left of the normal outlet/guage pickup, theres another hose outlet, leading to a cloth covered fuel line. On this outlet, it goes straight into the tank without anyway of removing a 'cap' like the other one.
So... am I just clueless on this? I'm trying to find pictures or explanations, but I don't see the extra one in any pictures.
I'm not sure which one is actually pickin up my fuel, as it was raining tonight and I didn't want to get under the car and track them. I did prime my fuel system, but instead sucked it with a primer bulb from the front. That worked perfectly, and the car got running again. :buttrock
I still gotta fine tune everything tomorrow and make it driveable.

That second outlet is probably capped in your car. It used to go to a plastic canister located under the rear hat shelf and was part of the emissions control system.

Its purpose was to collect gas vapors, IIRC.

My comments:

"There's also the little fuel filler overflow hose."
That smaller diameter hose is the tank vent. It originally should have been routed to the condensation tank under the rear parcel shelf. Nowdays, there area a variety of ways to vent the tank, including through the trunk floor.

"But about 6" to the left of the normal outlet/guage pickup, theres another hose outlet, leading to a cloth covered fuel line."
This is the fuel return line attachment. This is connected to a tube that runs up front to the engine compartment almost under the battery on the frame. It's purpose was to return excess fuel to the tank. There were valves and such as part of the fuel/emissions system originally.

"I'm not sure which one is actually pickin up my fuel, as it was raining tonight and I didn't want to get under the car and track them."
The hose attached to the sender unit is the real fuel supply line.
