View Full Version : rough start out the wazoo
sil0kin 08-23-2005, 11:05 AM ok.. new mobile 1 10w30 change, new fram oil filter, fuel injector cleaner(i forget what kind(brain fart) anyways, when it wants to..the beast starts up and idles normal..when it doesnt..itll crank, crank crank..ill give it some gas orrrr. itll crank and itll start after a while..but the idle is rough as shit, usually stays below 10,000..and i have to give it throttle in order for it to spur up and keep it at idle..(timeing which i doubt)..bad spark..possably?..(temperature sensor another possibility) (i cant spell for some reason..a definate) anyway..
can anyone relate? :confused

How about your grounds? Check them, change spark plugs and change fuel filter on the fuel pump. It could also be an ignition relay.

sil0kin 08-23-2005, 01:02 PM see.. i am pretty sure it is the relay..but..how do i find out without replacing it?..

If you know one is good, and its the exact same car as yours you can take one off another car, and swap it temporary.
If not bav auto sells them and they are very inexpensive about 30 bones or so,

PS: could be a bad fuel pump as well.
TheNeek 08-23-2005, 01:29 PM Well from your annoying little googly eye'd face I'd assume you're talking about the fuel injection relay that is the big black one in your fuse box that costs like 45 dollars. I have never seen one of these go bad. Describe your problem better. My bet is fuel pressure accumulator. I assume it starts rough when it's warm, but not when the engine is cold. My crystal ball only works so well though.
welequipt1 08-23-2005, 05:40 PM you can remove the relay and insert a "jumper" into the socket .as you stand at the driver side fender the jumper goes from the 12 o'clock to the 3 o'clock terminals on the relay SOCKET, your fuel pump will energize.CAUTION,only do this for diagnostic purposes and for 3 seconds max...your baby should start and run a bit if everything else is in order.also make sure your cold start injector is not goin' full time...rick

i'm sure you meant 1,000 rpm's? also make sure the cold start injector IS working...
Yonkers320is 08-23-2005, 08:26 PM I have had the same problem: rough idle when hot, I haven't found a cure yet, that is why I'm going stand alone fuel injection and ignition. No one here knows how to tune the K-jet and the book can only go so far.....
