I'm looking into a '79 320i that is for sale around here. Been emailing back and forth with the owner.

Silver ext, blue int. His college student daughter used to drive it.
Miles: Around 172k
Around 172K - but: not really sure about a number of significant components such as the 5 spd trans (shifts very smooth, and there have never been any shavings of chips in the fluids), suspension (feels real solid), etc. I look at it as having much fewer miles.
No headliner sag.
Two dime sized 'spots' on the surface only along the lower edge of the rear side windows.
He was asking much more than I have, but I was honest and said I only have $1,600 saved up at the moment, could he flex? He said he could get into the $2k range. He'll throw in a cover he recently bought for it.

I'm guessing I need to look at the shock towers for rust. Any other bad spots? Too expensive, or sound good?

Thanks for your input guys.. trying to get one!

From the info posted, IMO too much $$$

Forgot to mention, also includes:
recent custom exhaust (headers back)
Bilstein competition shocks/springs (I'm guessing sports with H&R sports?)
Alpine removable stereo (cassette)
All original 'turbine' wheels, including spare
Marchal Euro headlights
Fog lights
Alpina interior kit (wheel and shift knob)
New (5k miles) Continental Touring Contact AS Tires (185/70R13)

Any better? Quality E21s are hard to come by here, so keep that in mind.
Any info on the headlights?

Those are some blue seats... anyone want to guess as to what the yellow/purple buttons on the left side of the dash are for?

Does the rust look bad?

Counteroffer lower?

The yellow button is for the fog lights and the purple button is for the rear window defroster.
Or the other way around depending on if the last owner changed the color.

I did not see the photos before. :embarrasm
I would not pay $2K, that seems like an awful lot of money.

The rust does not look too bad.
mine did not look that bad, but I only had surface rust on my car.
