I was driving my Jetta down the freeway here in Detroit and just happend to pass by this beautiful white M3. I am not sure what is the extent of his modifications, however I do know that he at least had an exhaust. I look over and the guy noticed me passing him at fairly high speed. He immediately try to chase me down and we both run into trafic. For next couple of minutes both of us are trying to get around to a free stretch of road. Finally i got behind the last car in the group and M3 gets on my ass. As soon as the lane to our right opened i made quick line change and waited for a second or so for him to get behind me. We both knew it was "on".

As soon as i started to accelerate it was clear he could not keep up. Quickly I ran into next bach of cars and had to slow down. He pulled into the left lane and made some ground, however once my lane cleared up I was steadily increasing my lead. When I reached ~140mph i shut it down thinking it would definitely not be safe to continue particularly considering that we were fast approaching freeway junction with oncoming cars/merging lane. On the other hand, he apparently thought that I am still racing as he flew by me. As soon as we cleared the junction I got behind him as we were approaching the offramp. I was trying to get him to pull over so i can check out his ride. He did not seem to notice what I was saying and we parted our ways.

If the M3 driver is on this forum: I would like meet up and check your mods and do a couple of runs :cool

Needless to say, M3's are superb cars; however, 1.8T is a great powerplant as well.

My mods: APR 3+ kit with 3in exhaust and FMIC, 351WHP/328WTQ (hub dyno / dynapack).

The graph and the numbers posted on APR web site are for 93 octane file. I am running 100 octane gas with 100 octane file. The dyno was done last week, with my current setup.

This took place in Novi, going south towards 696/275/5 junction.

Congrats on the power you are putting down, sounds like a lot of fun. And since no one has mentioned it and it is all of our jobs as bimmerforum members to state.

twisties, drive home in bmw.

So were you on 96 going East or 696 going West? If you were going South, you had to already be on 275 driving away from the junction. I gotta get this straight in my head to visualize someone going 140 through that area (pretty crazy). I have done it myself, but never through that area (cops, cops & more cops). Be careful through there next time.

at least someone said it. I always hate having to be the one too. :stickoutt

But damn, nice numbers on that jetta. Chances are he just had exhaust. I know of many e46 m3s, that just do Exhaust or intake and exhaust, to get bad ass sounds. But that is all they wanna do. I don't blame them, the car is already pretty dman quick.

What would be wheel HP/TQ numbers for E46M3 with intake and exhaust?

...just curious .... J

woo I dunno. 333hp is stock crank hp. Intake and exhaust, gives prolly 10-15 crank hp each. So then do the math I guess. I'd guess all total, maybe like 280-290whp. I'm not sure, just tossing numbers out. (hoenstly without doing actual math with drive train loss, just guessing at numbers. :))

E46's are a bit on the heavy side. S3+ is a very nice setup, I had it on my GTI.

Nice kill! Stock E46 M3's tend to get between 265-285 whp depending on a strong motor. Anything more than intake and exhaust would require me to sell kidneys and such...
