View Full Version : Thought those R32s were faster...

I walked one pretty good on the highway today.

We started out at about 70-75 mph. The guy (early 20s) was a car and a half to two car lengths ahead when we started. By the time we finished (125 mph) I had 2 cars on him.

He started ahead because there was one lane at the time and opened up into two. As soon as the lane opened up, I shifted into 4th and started walking him faster. I had to take the next exit. Too bad we couldn't line up again. I expected more from them...

The problem with those is weight: 3400+ pounds at 240 HP.

they are about on par with e36 m3. They have the valdex awd system i believe. Which is primarily fwd, unless slippage is detected. So chances are you raced him under his FWD form, but it still retains the extra weight from being able to do awd.

No, if it was a skyline. Overhere, skyline owners never race. :rolleyes From everything I've heard, and from my own experience.

I owned a R32 gtr and I raced the shit out of everyone...but that car was a big money pit....had to order parts from japan...the evo was fun though...parts was as expensive as lunch money.

There are 3 in cincinnati and one R33 GTR likes to race (from my understanding, not experience)

stock for stock a 540 will smash on a vw r32 in all situations other than launching and super tight/ tech twistys

supercharge or Turbo the r32, say goodnight to most 540s even built 5s although i have come across some fast 5ers

Doesn't that hold true for 99.9% of vehicles on the road? :rolleyes

That's the one. I knew valdex seemed wrong, but I wasn't sure. I'm not a big vw enthusiasts. Just pick up a thing or two here and there. Thanks for the correction. ;)

Yes, but what do you consider "heavily modded?" Turbo and tune both the same way? Raise PSI on both?

There are so many things you could do to each car...if you have the money.

You're playing with 1200 cc of extra displacement ... which could be a real killer, during highway rolls.

you said a built engine, to a FIed one. Two completely different routes.

are you saying that you could turbo/sc both cars with the same amount of psi and that the r32 would eat the 540 alive? it doesnt take a brainiac to realize that if you turbo/sc a 3.2l vs a 4.4l that the 4.4 will be able to make much more power with the same psi than the 3.2l.

this argument is always an endless one, if i did this, if he did that...who cares, they didnt supercharge the r32 and the 540i wasnt heavily modded so this argument is worthless and promotes ignorance.

ignorance is not taking the time to do your homework on the vw r32 before challenging what i said....

take readily available mods on the market currently, the nicest (best performing, not most bling) most expensinve ones, that would imply heavily modded. now mod both cars with whats available.... r32 wins everytime, 540 has a little more class and comfort, but performance wise it looses

anyone here ever driven a 400+whp r32? I have. I have also driven a dinan 5, a well massaged e39 M5 various other fast 5s

so to recap, stock for stock 540 wins hands down in almost all areas... mild mods both cars= drivers race or conditions determining race.... from there the tunability of the R32 wins, throw all the money in the world at that 5, it doesnt matter because on the flip side of things the r32 will be pushed just that much further ahead

do not try and flip this into me talking down the bimmer, i am not. i ate, slept, shit and breathed fine bavarian automobiles for the first 3/4 of my life and still hold them in VERY high regard, but facts are facts

The race was posted as a stock 540 vs stock r32. We dont need to go in and add mods to each car and say "well that one would win if...."

I'd still rather roll in a 540, regardless of who wins the cockfight.

Stock for stock, in a hwy encounter I imagine a 540 (stick or auto) will win every time (HP is the champion there).

On a road course, the R32 will win most of the time (weight/brakes/tires are the real enemy there).

To the poster who said a modified R32 will always be faster - I think you are not aware there is a supercharger conversion for the M5 making around 700HP on street gas. The race version makes close to 1000HP (!). I don't think that even the HPI twin-turbo R32 conversion makes that much power. (I could be wrong).

hahah there is no bolt on kit for the m5 that makes 1000hp on race gas, wat was the swin supercharger kit by aa claming, something like 550? and this is a 540 we are taling about, not a m5.

he siad a s/c conversion. He said ith street gas it was a claimed 700whp.

But a race version (i'm guessing more than just changing the octane content in the push water) pushed 1000whp. I honestly have no clue what he is talking about. But was just breaking down what he said.

Know your BMWs before laughing like that...

Also, the poster I was referring to claimed that no 5 series, not even the M5, can be faster than the fastest R32. I'm still waiting for a knowledgeable rebuttal...

The Dinan kit makes 621 crank HP on regular gas. Bolt-on.

(click your way to the supercharged E39 M5 page)

The Discovery Automotive race kit makes 800rwhp, but can be tuned to 1000HP if you want to:

Wrong.

There are a quite a few S62's making well over 700rwhp.

The ignorance on BF has become overwhelming lately; I can't wait for school to start so these kids go (not directing this to you, just a general comment about BF.com these last few weeks, almost makes me not want to come on).
