This day has been a blast....my day started off by taking a 2 hour drive to a friend in another town, their town got beautiful mountain roads to drive on. I come up behind this E34 540, a young middle eastern guy like myself is driving, his friend in the backseat, and a young swedish blonde in the passenger seat. We follow pursuit, we exchange lanes onto the oncoming traffic (which didnīt exist at that point) and both mash the gas at the same time. I wound out 2nd and 3yrd gear, he was not even close...then we went to the twisties, high speed cornering and concentrating on apex. I runned slow at first to see that he knows what he is doing and he aint no freckled 17yr old....but he was a good driver so I gave him all I got, 540 dissapeared...last thing I saw was the swedish blonde laughing and smiling while we passed.

6 hours later....

As I wrote in off topic, we had a huge car meet today, there were reporters and what not there. Some cool cars, ferrari 355, cl600, ford GT40, bunch of euro M3īs, M5īs, S4īs, alpina B8....etc etc. But the fun part of this day was...that there were alot....and I mean ALOT of boyracers out. So anyway im cruising on a highway when I see a saab aero screaming by me shooting off his blow off valve. I laugh and go after him, I passed him like he was standing still in 2nd 3rd and half of 4th gear before we ran out of road. We made a turn and came into a loooooong motorway....we did a couple of runs, we made one pass starting in 5th gear at high speed, he pulled 2 cl on me....then we did the same on 4th....I pulled him all the way through 4th and half of 5th....weird....I won all the times we raced except that one time, dont know maybe his boost level just jumped up. At one point my speedometer was way over 162mph....260km/h ++.....we made a total of about 10 runs, which I won 9 of, and the one time I list I believe I should have been in 4th, and not in 5th....the speeds was so high at that moment that I may have lost concentration regarding my gear choosing :D

I've got a '95 Aero 5-speed with 3" turbo back exhaust and it runs a lot stronger than any 240 HP car should--especially with 215,000 miles. I feel it will out-pull my 2000 M Coupe above 60 MPH. A Carrera 4 (new) slowly pulled on me (2 car lengths) from 60 to 135+. Aeros are strong highway cars.

Good kill.

Although the whole story seems VERY exaggerated, did you read the title? It's a Euro Spec M3 (I believe same engine as your M Coupe)

But yeah, I'm sure he didn't pass either one like they were "standing still"

Yeah, read the "euro spec" and assumed it should out-pull the Aero. It's important to note that the 9000 series Aeros only had the high-output (225 HPs) engine with a 5-speed, and the 9-5 Aeros all had rated 250 HP but a heavier car. Of course an auto will eat some HPs.

The Euro spec M3s only have about 40 hp on the E34 540i, and probably less torque. Yes, it will be faster, but not by much. I wouldn't be suprised if the trap speeds of the two were within 5 mph of each other. Last thing I'm worried about while the car is in motion is the weight.

Should be no contest. Raced one too some time ago:

Saabs are designed by Aerospace engineers. They dont look the part, but they tend to be extremely aerodynamic.

Sure, Saab also make fighter jets, but it's most likely not the same peolpe making the cars and the jets...

euro spec m3 either has roughly 280 crank hp or like 320 crank hp. I'm not sure if parham has 3.0 or 3.2L engine. But yes, ti is a euro spec m3, which is quite a bit quicker than the US spec. Also I think euro spec has Dual Vanos (maybe just 3.2L)

Amoo, the 00' M Coupe had the S52. I believe it's 01+ that got the S54.

The euro M3 should be quite a bit faster than the E34 M5, since it's just as fast as the E34 M5 3.8 (340hp). The euro M3 3.2 is even faster than the E34 M5.

Yes, only the 3.2 has dual Vanos.

btw my car ran a 13.4 with only a chip, filter and exhaust....and thatīs VERY fast for a almost stock M3....E34 540īs dont got anything on a M3, but yes they are fast. Aeroīs are made from saab, yes they do fighter jets such as the viggen, so what...itīs a car not a plane. Euro spec M3īs are alot faster than the us specīs ones...except if u got the dinan compressor kit...then your faster. Im not exagerrating, im telling the story how it was.

the dinan isn't that impressive of a kit.

yeah probably, but not by much.

from what I know...a dinan compressor kit puts out 350hp...so itīs barely faster than a regular M3.

I thought only the Aero models are made by Aerospace engineers, not all Saabs. :lol (just yanking your chain).

That's what Saab would have you believe, but it doesn't work like that. I drove a 9-5 in Europe and was underwhelmed by that car. Heavy, solid and not very nimble (and fwd to start with).

The 9-5 as far as I know is based on the older 9000 platform, which in turn was co-developed by Fiat and Saab in the late 80s. 3 cars originally came off of that platform: the Saab 9000, the Fiat Chroma and the Lancia Thema. Believe it or not, the hottest car was a Lancia, the Thema 8-32 which had a detuned Ferrari engine in it. But while all these italian versions went the way of the Dodo, Saab carried on for a good number of years - which probably says something about the integrity they put into their version.

But at the end of the day, it's still a very old platform...

Gosh I hope I recalled all these things correctly... :stickoutt
