So a friend of a friend has a 2003 3.0 Z4 and wanted to run against me. Both runs we went from a 10 mph roll so that neither of us had a chance to mess up a launch. It was on a clear 2 lane road with nice pavement and probably around 80 degrees out.

Run 1:
We both count to 3 and then hit it at the same time from 10 mph. Through first gear I jump out ahead by about half a car length. He shifts first and gets a bit of wheelspin and I get another quarter car ahead or so. I then shift with no wheelspin. Through second we stay about the same place with me out about 3/4 of a carlenth. However, once we got into third I was gone, 1 car length, then 2 then 3 and I think he shut down.

Run 2:
Same deal count to 3 and takeoff from 10mph. This time I got just over a car length ahead though through first gear. It was pretty much the same story, staying about even through second and them me taking off through 3rd.

My go mods:
New 3.0 engine
Dinan CAI
24# injectors
540i HFM
Fan Delete
BBTB (no HP gain)
Coolant line bypass
Turner Chip Tuning
VIS CF Hood
224 whp and 211tq

Z4 go mods:
Remus exhaust
CAI

It was my first actual race and I was actually suprised with the outcome, I thought he would have been a bit quicker. Not bad for a nearly 10 year old car :redspot

Jonnyg if you are reading this, did you race this guy earlier? Its a steel grey Z4 with some hamann stuff and the reason why he wanted to race me was because he said he had gotten beat by a red E36 M3 earlier around RCC where he also goes.

naknak, outcome is believable. z4 3.0 vs a e36 m3 (both stock) is about a drivers race. Probably with the m3 having a slight edge. He mainly has sound mods (i know they boost performance, but intake/exhaust isn't much) and you have a pretty good amoutn of mods. But the 3rd gear part does seem pretty excessive. So maybe our gearing is far more aggressive than his.

garrett we should run, we're putting out the same power.

edit: uuuuum I don't know if I raced that guy before, I did race a Z4 about a year ago...don't remember the color though. Get on AIM fool, I hate PMs.

With all your mods, I'm surprised you didn't beat him more at the early stages of the race. But the outcome in third is logical.

I did it too. Basically, coolant is routed to the TB so that in extremely cold conditions, your coolant will warm up the TB and keep it from sticking.

Yea I'm down to run. If this was the same guy he says it was like last week so I doubt it.

Well this was my first like count down fair race.

Thanks. The coolant line bypass is like a $4 mod where you basically bypass coolant from going to your TB to warm it up and keep it from freezing. I don't suggest it if you live anywhere where it ever reaches freezing temperatures.

why would u do that though? how does that mod benefit anything

Without that bypass, it warms up the air right before it enters the combustion chamber. Which defeats the whole idea of, among other things, a CAI.

Nice run. Pretty much what I would have expected given your mods. z4s are quick little buggers.

Nice, one question what do you mean by a new 3.0 engine, isnt the S52 a 3.2?

1995 M3's came with a 3.0 S50 OBD1 engine. 1996+ came witht he S52 3.2 OBD2 engine.
