I'm in my 89 mitsubishi mirage turbo when I see a 5 series just coming off the on ramp. He makes his way across the lanes and ends up infront of me. I get a little closer.....a 540 :) I get over to next lane, stays next to him a sec and give it some gas and let off. Now I got his attention.

I got a car blocking my lane just ahead so I get back into his lane behind him. He takes the bait, we are going around 75 mph and he guns it. I'm staying in 5th gear due to a bad clutch cylinder that wont alow me to do any high rpm shifting. He starts pulling away. As the rpms start to climbs I'm gaining on him......full boost.....here comes the slingshoot feeling just as I pass the car that was blocking my lane earlier. I'm right behind the 540, jumped over to the other lane and passed him.....I'm flooring it and hold it for a while. When I finally let off he is way behind, he probably ended up letting off after I passed that quickly. Afterwads I slow down, he slows down also and get in the lane behind me. Another embarasing death!

Later that night I tried to get a e36 m3 to get on it but he wouldnt bite. He got off at the same exit as me. Silver, painted moldings, e46 m3 style rims got off by stevens ranch of the 5 fwy- are you here on the board?

The stock 1.6 turbo (4g61) swapped out for galant VR4 RS engine (240hp stock) + 20g turbo/tial 40mm/780cc injectors/big intercooler etc. It weighs around 2100ibs.

The car looks stock. Even got a tiny exhaust tip while the real 3" turbo back dumps halway under the car :evil2 .

Those mirages are scary to drive with the 2.0L and all those mods! ;)

Galant VR4 RS????????JDM? I never heard of the term RS for the Galant, However I'll assume it's a 4g63 ;)

It is a 4g63. The RS is a rare JDM vr4 that came stock with big 16g, larger front mount, 510 injectors, 7 cm manifold, lightweight flywheel etc

Wow man, that car really is the ultimate sleeper. I would never never suspect that thing could take a 540, amazing. I would go cry if I was mega-owned by a car that looked like that. Very sneaky of you to have the tiny fake exhaust, cool idea.

I figured it was a JDM motor.The only real diff is the turbo,inj,and Intake manifold(cyclone) I think.Because a 6 bolt 4g63 is a 6 bolt 4g63,which I know you know already.


However I knew of 3 4g63 mirages over here on this side.One driver died 3yrs ago test driving his on a curvy road only because he had the welded diff.PS. He was drunk as well.So I am sure this added to his demise.Once you weld the diff you can't take curves at high speeds.

You are right, it is a handful to drive. It doesnt handle (290k miles on the body, shot suspension and bushings) and stopping is adventure in itself sometimes. Brakes and suspensions is next.

Brakes and suspensions is next.Invest in Willwood 4 pot callipers and rotors or AP racing.They are considered better than Brembo's for your car.Suspension technique bushings as well as stck bushings where needed would be optimum as well.I changed almost all of the stck bushings on my Talon and it handles like a monster along with the Baer brakes which are OK but much much better than stck.

You stayed in 5th gear at 75mph against a 540 who "gunned it" and caught up and passed him, in what sounds in your story like a VERY short amount of time and /or road?!?! He must of put an eighth mile on you while you were waiting for the turbo to spool to full boost, if you stayed in 5th gear. 75mph is right were the 540 has all, or most of her grunt. If he "gunned it", which I'm assuming to you means he burried it to the floor, or down-shifted if it was a 6-speed, I'd be very interested to know how long of a distance it took to catch and pass him. It had to be quite a ways, or it wasn't a 540. Maybe this guy was the opposite of you and your sleeper?!? A guy with a 528 pretending to have more?!?

I don't care if you have a new Ferrari F430, if at around 75mph you stay in 5th and I get to downshift to 3rd or 4th AND get the jump, you're going to need a considerable amount of ground to catch and pass me..... :evil2

On top of that, with gas and high-speed ticket prices being what they are getting to be, I doubt I would waste the gas on a car that most definately doesn't appear to be worth it. Maybe that's why the M3 didn't run....?? No disrespect meant here, just my thoughts.

Regardless, you must have a ball in that ultimate sleeper. You need plates that read EGOKILR...!!!!! You should mount a camera to get these people's expressions as you go by. :eek: Enjoy.....

Fifth gear in a Mitsu mirage with a worked 4g63 turbo with a 20g turbo feels like third gear.They are insane to drive.He's also weighing about 2200lbs if that,and putting alot more down to the wheels than the 540i stck.I've been in these modded mirages and driven them and when I tell you they're scary fast,They are scary fast...Capable with low boost and slicks to run low 11's high 10's @ over 120mph.Unless you've driven in one there's honestly no debate to him catching the 540i in fifth gear so fast!The car makes enuff power to perhaps max a 6spd transmission.This car is also a Ferrari murderer!In a straight line that is! :D

A friend of mine offered his 93' VR4 Galant to me with loads of bolt-ons for ~$4k b/c he wanted to dump it. Ran clean high 13's. But did not look the part.

they didn't make galant vr-4's here in the US in 93... only 92 and 91.

did you bug bomb it yourself or actually use a true paint booth setup? I was thinking of doing the primer/flat black for the E30 but I may sell that now. :dunno

you need to show me this car when I'm local.

Mine is dark green and needs some TLC. I'm about to hit it with a PC and a good cutting pad.

-Ronyou can get the 5 bolt from any 95-99 AWD 2nd gen DSM.They also have the 4bolt axles vs the 3 bolt axles.I'm not sure about the axle bolt pattern on the VR4.Also You want it from the AWD 2g DSM'sbecause they come with bigger callipers and rotors.The vr4 may come with the bigger callipers and rotors already I think, but unfortunately the Vr4 comes with 4 bolt hubs.95-99 2nd gen AWD DSM and you can get all the stck upgraded parts(axles incld) and 5 bolt that you need. It's like going from a 325 hub to the bigger M3 hubs,brakes,callipers,rotors ,axles! ;) PS the Vr4 may be an exception .You may need to only chg the hubs period to 5 bolt.
