Are you going to the driving school at Hearland Park this weekend?

If so lemme know what to look for, I'd rather talk to enthusiasts and see some modded Bimmers. My dad said that when he did it in 95' there were too many poseurs in Nomex going 20. So far that is all I see in KC, people that think cars are for transportation (WTF is wrong with them?).

How often do they do the DE's at Heartland? Also let me know how it turns out if you go. I'm thinking of moving back up to Wichita and getting the hell out of this hell hole called Houston. Would be nice to know that I can do a nice DE without having to drive too far.

I'll be there this weekend. It will be my first driving school so I don't think I'll will be burning up the track.

Sweet, at least I won't be the first timer! If you are bringing a s/c //M3 then I'd better not pass you. ;)

They do it every year with the BMWCCA but you can drive with the Audi and Porsche people because they never have enough people.

It will be interesting to do something bigger than Auto-X.

Hey Brian, do you even go to those meetings at that bar? If so how are the people there? I am thinking about going but am afraid it might be full of elitists.

Hey guys,
I usually go these events, but I just did one at O'fest in Keystone last weekend. I will be doing the one in September, I forget if iit is the porsche or audi one. To answer the first question, there are many serious dudes out there who do know how to drive. there are also many beginners. You are grouped accordingly which makes it fun. you should watch and talk with the experienced guys out there as much as possible.

Bring a chair, lots of water, and take as much shit out of the car as you can.
you need a tire gauge, torque wrench and I recommend taping your lights to keep them looking pretty. Plan on buying new tires pretty soon too.

It is a lot of fun, don't go there to go fast, go there to be smooooth! And remember you need to drive your car home afterwards. It is not too hard to go sideways into a wall. I have expereinced it and seen it happen.

The BMW, porsche , and Audi clubs do at least one each duriong the summer and then they put a joint one on too. So that is at least 4 events each year. First one starts in May, last one in either Sept or Oct. depending on the weather. There seems to be one a month. Hope to see you there soon!

Oh yeah man, we are decked out! I work at Galyans so I have one of those popup shades for the paddock and some nice and comfy deck chairs.

I plan on removing the back seat before I go then removing the spare when I get there. I am planning on leaving my car there overnight.

I am hoping to not kill my car.

Ryan and BP...looks like I'll see you there. This is probably my 6th school at topeka, and I'll tell you that they're organized really well. Kirk Kiloh (audi guy) and Scott Blazey (BMW guy) organize the events, and the instructors they get there are really cool. I drive a Techno Violett 98 M3 w/ SSR comps (until my track tires wear out, of course), so look for me out there...gangly 20-year-old with skanky hair. My name's Evan Life, and just mention you're the guys from bimmerforums if you see me (you probably will).

You'll have a ton of fun out there...so just be sure to enjoy yourselves, and don't miss the god-damned classrooms, they're important. Also, always remember that the idea isn't to go fast, it's to go smoothly and controllably, and the fastest guys aren't always the guys with the most powerful cars.

Actually, looks like I'll be bugging you a lot...those popup shades are nice in 90+ weather on a tarmac.

I wouldn't reccommend removing the rear seat unless you need it for storage of stuff (I do for my wheels), remove the spare tire if you wish, but I'd reccommend to learn how to drive it fast with all the extra weight when it's not sketchy, and then take out the weight later and really fly! Just a suggestion. See you there dude!

Also, you can go to my page (click on my sig pic) for some pics from random events there...sadly I lost the pictures from when I drove my old Integra GS-R out there....I was on 2-3 wheels most of the time, and it made for some entertaining photography.

Anyway, see you there, and good luck!

I'll be there.

My contingent will probably be parked in the paddock area to the left (facing the track, ie towards turn one) of Slicks' grill in the upper paddock. That's our preferred spot.

My silver '95 M3, a black jetta 1.8t with 18" BBS SX, who knows what else...

Sheridan-
I think I remember you from the last audi school out there...you were going pretty quick from what I remember. I was in a red integra gs-r with m+s (yipes!) tires last time (M3 wasn't ready at the last second), so you may remember me. If you weren't at that one, you must have been at the BMW school there last summer, in which I was driving one of the many silver M3 coupes. See you out there!

I was at that track in '90 when they were just opening it. I worked pit crew on a funny car at the national drags that year. They were still building the stands during the 2 days of qualifying. Hard to believe that tracks been there 13 years now.

I didn't pass inspection!! I am so pissed. Have fun for me guys. I think a bunch of us who aren't actually driving are going to come up and just hang out for a while and do the whole dinner/buffet thing Sat. night.
Eric- can you buy dinner at the door?
Did your bro get rid of his 19's or did he just put on the BBS's for the track? Take care guys, I had no idea there were this many KS guys on Bimmerforums. Check out the Heatland Park thread on DTM, lots more guys. Take care.
