Hi,

I would like to know of a mechanic in or near Manassas, VA who is a BMW ace and can do a thorough pre-purchase inspection on a 99 M3.
Also, I would like to hear from anyone with opinions on Linton Motorsports in Manassas?
Thanks, the Bimmerforums expertise is very much appreciated!

I read through that list of mechanics already and none are close to Manassas.
Thanks for the reply but it isn't the information I am in need of.

I was going to buy a car from Linton Motorsports. an old E28 528e...kinda glad I didn't.

They may not have the best prices, but the service is pretty good and the salespeople know their stuff without being too pushy.

RIGHT down the street (on Park Circle Ct. right off Manassas Dr.) is Manassas Motorwerks. They actually kinda do deal alot with Linton, but if you take your car their they will do good work. We figured they'd be in bed with the dealership but Ron, the main guy, is a very good honest person. I recommend them, just kinda a haul for me.

the owner of linton motorsports, scott linton, is a dedicated racer of bmw's. he currently has an scca its class 325is race car and an scca t2 class m3. good folks there!

I bought a car from Linton, it was fine...like any other used car dealers. I don't think the cars they buy wholesale are as pristine as the ones Auto Advantage gets but they also don't overcharge and strip out of the accessories like Auto Advantage does.

I went and looked at a 95 m3 there a couple years ago. I was not impressed. The car was nice, but for the price ($18,900 -- remember this was almost 2 years ago) it should have been nicer. The worst part was that they would not let me test drive it unless I committed to buying it first. :rolleyes.

I'd avoid Linton Motorsports like the plague.

I went there about 3 years ago to check out a red E36 M3. I test drove it, and I found that the steering wheel shimmied at around 65-70 mph. I politely asked that if I bought the car, would they get the alignment checked along with a wheel balancing job? The very unpleasant (and I'm holding back here...a lot) sales manager said something to effect of "...if it doesn't shimmy at legal speeds (55 mph), then it's not my problem."

The owner/racer might be a nice fellow, but that sales manager was...is...a sorry excuse for a person.

i dislike linton. they charge a premium for their cars and advertise them as pristine. we bought a 95 m3. overall the car was in good shape.
problems were cd player did not work (took about 3 weeks to get another unit installed)
when we bought it, they had just installed 4 new tires. when i put the car on the lift, all 4 wheels were bent big time. i'm still surprised i couldn't feel it at med highway speeds. i would not use these wheels on my car for fear of wering out other suspension components. the sales manager said if it passed va inspection, the car was good for sale. the best the owner would do was offer me 4 wheels at cost from the tire rack.
sorry, but if you treat customers like that and expect to charge a big premium over book value, these cars better be in perfect shape.
if i ever buy from them again, i'm showing up with a jack and jack stand to do an under car inspection.
i have zero trust in them and anything they say. i want it on paper or to see it with my own eyes.
others have had good experiences though. they may not get another chance with me.
