i was out crusin the local strip (where the imports etc hang out) one night and it's like a big circle and everytime i would go by this certain place i would hear ppl scream HEY or get on it and so i would drop it a gear and take off but finally i went over there because they never shut up, and this dude was like hey man u wanna race me? i saw a bad little wrx sitting there and i thought he was driving that, and he pointed to this jeep grand cherokee, i laughed and said ya sure
but i didnt have ne money on me that the time (thank god) cuz when he asked me if i wanted to put any money on it i had to say no, so i follow him out to this road it's a business road and after 5 or 6 it's completely vacant, so he was like alright how big of a head start do you want, so i said ok i will take one or two so he stopps and i pull up a car length and it was a 3 tap race, i tapped and on the third i dropped it from bout 3 or 4 grand, and i hit second perfectly and as approached the limiter i heard it bounce and then all i heard was a big loud a$$ exaust and it was the cherokee passing me like i was sitting still! WTF? so i turned and left!

I think the 5.9 ltr V8 Cherokee Limiteds can run 0-60 in 7 seconds flat. That would be enough to take out a 318i pretty easily. If he had mods then GOOD BYE!!

You have a 140HP, 4-cylinder motor in a car that weighs close to 3,000 lbs.

What did you expect?

That's what I was going to say. I came in here expecting at least a 328 getting whooped by a Jeep. Displacement wins in this one.

I think he's pretty happy w/ the thrust of the 1.8... at least according to his user-name :D

I'll have to admit, Ive been had by a 5.9 before. A friend of mine used to have one and we were joking around about how his car was faster in a straight line and I was just humoring him... until he took me for a ride and my jaw dropped. I'd like to see that engine in a more deserving car...

My buddy has a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.7 i believe w/ an intake, exhaust and let me tell you the thing f'in flys. With the quadra drive awd it is nuts for a SUV.

Hmmmm, not if they got to pick the course;)

And, the new jeep grand cherokee can be had with a 330hp Hemi. 0-60 a around 6.5 seconds. Barely 4000#. And the 328i has what, 190hp and 3100#? 140hp for an extra 1000#? And just wait until 2006, when you can get a 415hp SRT Jeep. 0-60 times under 5 seconds. Ouch. "Rape" might be a little strong...

maybe the srt ill give you that, the 330 hp hemi would be a good race but im sure there gearing will suck. from a dig i should be o from the highway i dunno... but hope fully my mods will stop me from losing to one especially when my 3.15 goes in

My friend got a Grand Cherokee Limited with the Hemi last year, so I have some experience here. Despite having excellent AWD and loads of torque, the launch is...underwhelming. Even mild brake-torquing yielded far less acceleration than what I expected. Once you get beyond first gear, though, things get even worse for the Jeep. It is so...so...very "not fast" on the highway, you have to wonder where all those HP are hiding. Then you remember that they're pushing a 4500+ lb porker with poor aerodynamics and uninspring gearing down the road. Ahhhh, yes....
I mean, really, it's like maybe automatic 325 fast(slow?) on the highway. So sad. Quick through first gear, but ain't got nothin' up top. Plus it's limited to 111mph.
Really, as far as acceleration goes, the Hemi GC is not very impressive at all. It's extraordinarily good offroad compared to everything else in it's class; is amazingly quiet at highway cruising speeds  ; handles pretty decently for a vehicle that really shouldn't; and it has enough oomph for anyone who'd be buying a Grand Cherokee anyway. The funniest part is, for having such an engine(ohhh HEMI ahhhh :rolleyes ), it sounds like complete and utter **** when revved. I absolutely love the sound of big domestic V8s, but this thing sounds like a wheezing 4-banger, plus has a neutral-rev limit of something like 4000 rpm, I think my friend said. Must be part of the MDS system.
Don't get me wrong, I really like Jeeps, and I think the new WK is a pretty decent vehicle, but like most things associated with the newly revived Hemi, it's performance is blown way, way out of proportion.

EDIT: Oh, and as another anecdote, my friend with the Hemi and I had just turned a 90 degree corner behind another friend with a sloooow auto 323iS when we decided to be ***holes and blow by him in the passing zone. I started the pass in second, with my friend maybe five CLs behind me, then(I had just gotten the car) missed third and hit fifth gear right as I was passing the other E36 friend.

I was pulling away from the guy in the Hemi Jeep---slowly, I grant you, but surely---in fifth gear at like 60-70mph and not even 3/4 throttle :lol
My friend was soooo happy he had "kept up with an M3," until I told him I had shifted from second to fifth.

I guess you're referring to my post. The OP seemed so shocked that he lost to a Jeep, that's why I said I expected the car that lost to be "at least a 328." I highly doubt you'd "rape" a new Limited w/ the Hemi.

Again, for all posters to follow, 318 claims he has a 2.5l-equipped 318is, which doesn't exist. And a 2.5l 4 banger that doesn't exist either.

So unless he has a swapped in 2.5 6 cylinder, which I doubt because he said it looks like the M43 or M44 engine, this is all a big bunch of probable BS.

Thank you.

I agree.

If you don't even know how many cylinders you have, chances are, you didn't do a swap. On top of it, he claims to work at a repair shop :help
