View Full Version : Modded Civic VS Modded 540I
TT Quattro 08-18-2005, 11:51 AM I was on the way home from work last night and I pull up to a red light and look over and see a very nice 540I. It had the M5 kit on it, dual exhaust, and M parellel wheels.
So I rev at the guy and he dosen't respond. The light changes and he guns it, so I stab the gas and pull on him in first, slam it in 2nd with a go bit or wheel spin and pull a little more on him. By he time I was shifting into 3rd gear he let off and was at my back bumper.
I really thought he was gonna smoke me. He must not have any other mods.
I am driving a 97 Hatch JDM GSR I/H/E. Putting out 200-205 at the flywheel.
I must say though it was one of the cleanest 540I I have seen riding around here. I know my car is faster but I still would trade him anyday.
sdwhitney 08-18-2005, 12:45 PM What does this mean?
97 Hatch JDM GSR I/H/E
How do you know he was modded?
I want to say nice kill, but I have no idea what those acronyms mean for your car. Also, as far as HP to Weight ratio, need to know what mods he had if any(since you said he was modded).
Thanks in advance for yoru response

I/H/E = intake/headers/exhaust
Pretty impressive kill, lightness and gearing must be on your side!
I'd imagine the 540 would have overtaken you with authority had the race continued much further - but that didn't occur so we'll never know.
Ever dyno'd your ride or run some timed 1/4?
How much do you think your civic weighs in at?
Oh, do you think the 540i was an auto or 6-speed?
Der Spielführer 08-18-2005, 12:59 PM You gained 35 hp from just i/h/e on a 4 cylinder? Usually 4 bangers don't respond to mods that well.
Either way, 205 hp is in the type r territory...with a lighter car. It should be close.

If it's the JDM GSR then I think that would be the B18C, 185hp/129ft-lb stock. Correct me if I'm wrong...I know little to nothing of Japanese imports.
15hp gain is believable.

You're probably right. I totally ignored the JDM part.

Please don't consider me an asshat here, but is that a mod. Or like an M version of a civic. Like SVT, or SS.
Help a guy out here...
FifthStreetz 08-18-2005, 01:24 PM i think that means the car was made in japan?

Made in Japan for the Japanese Market. Usually a slight performance upgrade to our de-tuned North American models here!!!!

It's an engine swap.
It's the same concept as taking a Euro E36 M3 engine and putting it in a US E36 M3.
The JDM has much better engine choices for most of their cars than what they send to the US.
dredder 08-18-2005, 03:22 PM Having a JDM engine on light us spec hatch is a big deal to the honda/acura scene, this is what most of the teenage brag about when they beat the faster m3 - vipers. Its been documented with video. They are dirt cheap to acquired and practically almost free to get a lot of horse power.
If you're new to modding any cars e.g. BMW, VW, etc...., you will see this designation I/H/E a lot as explain by fastdream.
The swap is comparison to people swapping M50B30 (us spec m3) or S50B30 (euro spec m3) into the 318ti like myself.
Overall, BMW swap > Honda swap any day.
biggafigga 08-18-2005, 04:08 PM Overall, BMW swap > Honda swap any day.
But also lots more money. Every country gets better engines than the US, whether it's a German or a Japanese car. Sucks for us.
I thought the newer E39s came with the M5/M-Tecnic bodies?

I am not new to modding.
I am new to stupid acronyms like I/H/E.
Typing Intake/header/Exhaust would have taken 3 seconds more.
dredder 08-18-2005, 06:32 PM I am new to stupid acronyms like I/H/E.Thats just the way people talk in most forum including here. What do you think HFM is? most common acromyns here. If im typing, I dont really want to spell out the whole word if everyone knows what im talking about.
By any means, im not trying to get confrontational here, just want to get something straight.
But also lots more moneyYou're right...I chatted with a honda/GSR swap after I mauled him on the freeway. I spent almost half of what he did for his swap. I know it wasnt a fair race but Its the only way I can test the rides performance.
TT Quattro 08-18-2005, 08:20 PM Yea I swaped in a Motor from oversea, and it does have more power than the US enginem I all so and running a high flow pump, higher fuel pressure and a slight advance in timing.

How do you know he was modded?
He had the M5 kit, the dual exhaust and wheels, more than likely he had more mods if he had all that done and as clean as it was.
