View Full Version : Scion Tc faster than I thought

I stopped racing this kid in a scion Tc because he started cutting people off to get ahead of me, so I let him go. I'm not going to behave like an idiot for the sake of a "kill", since this literally could kill someone. And he seemed to need to want to prove his manhood was bigger than mine... :lol
But, I was surprised at how quick his car was. I couldn't help but think his car had been supercharged or something. I had to actually put some gas down in my 328i to keep up with him. Only mods I have are ECIS intake and suspension mods. But, while he was ahead, I was definitely able to stay on him with more power to go. Still, I was surprised this thing had power... UGLy little thing.

Yeah its the coupe and supposed to be the sporty model of the scions. You know you can get mods from the factory when brought new. So he probably had the CAI, exhaust, suspension, etc...

I laugh when I see a moded scion they are so slow and the commercials make it look like it is a sports car with lots of power when in realty it has next to nothing I find it just so funny.
Then I hate it when people spend $$$$ to get power and performance out of one of theses things and then stupid people go and see it and all of a sudden its like there stock pos has the same performance :mad damn stupid people

ya that car must of be moded you should be able to just destroy one of these things stock. nice kill

160hp/163 lbs-ft@4k rpm from a 2.4L VVTi DOHC 4 banger in a 2905 lbs car, bone stock. I think that the stock e30 325is folks have something to worry about...

An e36 M50 (or above) powered car with a manual should have nothing to worry about though, in a straight power contest.

All that TRD lists on the site though for the tC is an exhaust, suspension, clutch and short shifter. There is NO supercharger listed on the website to option in when buying. I know that there ARE TRD blowers available for the xA and xB, but I am unaware of one FROM TRD for the 2.4L motor in the tC. I think he was just pushing his car as hard as he could...but wasn't in the same class.

giterdone
08-18-2005, 07:55 AM
yeah I'm not sure if they have blowers for them out now. i know they have project cars with big turbos and crap. But the cars are garabge in my opinion. You can make them look spiffy by getting CF interior and all sorts of k3wl things, but I'll pass on that.

Scion... :rolleyes
that's 160 crank hp. They're very sluggish. Test drove a "modded" one from the toyota dealership - it had chip + exhaust + more neons than a christmas tree does + bigger rims and it definately felt slow. Plus they're very heavy for their size

Here's a true story that happend to me, put yourself in my shoes and tell me how to react to it...
I've been going out with this girl who has a Scion something (Nothing against it). She knows I am a car fanatic, and cars are like my hobby (just so everbody knows, we have a Thunderbird, a 3000GT, 318i, and previously sold a 535i). Last week we were talking and I mentioned that i was going to sell my 318i already to get a different car (but staying on bmw, which I guess she doesnt know). out of know where.......she suggests " why dont you buy a Scion"...... I was like.... :confused . I wanted to tell her..."Screw you!!!", but I was able to get hold of myself. I havent spoken to her since. How would you react? :shifty

:D yeah, you're right... lol. In fairness, I guess she hasnt driven a bmw before so she doesnt know tha feeling " once you have driven a bmw, you dont go back" or something like that. Maybe I was suprised wth her suggestion coz i was thinking of an upgrade, and somehow i felt she was suggesting a downgrade, you know what i mean.
Anyway, it was just a funny / confusing story I wanted to share.
hmmm, maybe I should get a scion.... lol :biglaughb

I agree, he must have been pushing pretty hard, which I definitely was not. I would have liked to have done a standing side by side start/drag just out of curiosity. I gather the Scion has 0-60 of 7.1 or so, and 328i stock has 6.4.

ANyway, just posted this because I thought these cars were supposed to be complete dogs with "fancy" styling. But, this Tc is not bad for the money it seems, if you like FWD and the kinda cheesy look.

the headlights look like a mix of new 5 and new 7 headlights put together...i dont like how alot of car companies copy looks, if you look at the Kia Amanti its basically a mix of the older MB E320 and Jaguar S type...

Holy obsessive insanity.

Who cares what someone else chooses to drive. That's what makes your ride more meaningful to you - it's your choice, and not the typical choice of the masses.
Others can love their car, whatever it may be. That's what enthusiasts are all about - a shared love for automobiles. Usually, most true enthusiasts I know can appreciate another's enthusiasm, even if it is for a different car.

Simple-minded purists are the types that actually hate brands other than theirs, actually believe their brand is the absolute best regardless of reality, and go as far as to hate the people the drive other brands. Same types that will key and vandalize other marques.
It's nuts!

Call your woman back man. Enjoy your car. These things can coexist.

Scion's are pretty interesting to me.
The Tc seems like a good fit for a new, young driver.
Good entry price for a good quality car.
Very reliable, economical, decent little car.
Not to my taste, but I'd consider it for my daughter.

Hey, i did say I'm sorry, I know i overreacted. :D . She's not really my girl, just someone I recently started going out with. I'm lucky my woman prefers nice cars. She likes bmw, mercedes, some audis, and most of all porcshes. Ah, she learns well. :D

Hi,
I just wanted to add. I have nothing against other car brands. please don't take it the wrong way. I appreciate how other cars try to have their own distinguishing looks and own identities. How each and strive to be different, and the more variety, the more choices we all have to cater to our own needs... But to compare a bmw to a scion.. well you know :D

I play a game with my girl asking if she'll drive a car or not. This all started when I asked her what she liked; "If it has four wheels and drives. Like your car." I gave her a :confused . I had a 00' Jetta, a 04' Harley Truck and now a 00' M roadster. I think she's missing the point, b/c she says she wants a JEEP or a civic.

Not to be big-headed, but it really kills dates when she says things of the sort.

"Modded" managed a 15.7 1/4 and 7.8 0-16. It's a turd. My 98 Ford ZX2 went from 0-60 in mid 7s and had less HP stock to begin with but weighed considerably less at 2500lbs. Too much weight for an underpowered car to even come close to competing with some higher end cars. Of course there is the old boost facter :)

she was implying that her scion is a lot better than a bmw. would you agree on that ?In some ways.....it is. Reliability, fuel economy and electronics come to mind. Especially with any BMW that is newer than an E34.

The old school Bimmers were overengineered. That's why they last so long. :alright

Of course you had to put some power down. If he was at WOT you still need to be in 80-90% of ur power to keep up?

Personally I think the tC looks great for what it is. For $15-16k you are looking at the following cars: Civic, Corolla, Mazda3, Sentra. ALL are ugly POS's. You can't even get a Civic EX for as cheap as this Scion. And a Civic EX has 140hp crank.

So for what it is, I think the tC is an awesome car. I personally think it looks great with xenon's and the sunroof. It definitely looks better than the other teeny bopper entry level cars. I'd take one anyday over those other cars.

I don't mind the lines on the Scion TC. Although I believe the car's name is false advertising. Why the hell would Scion call the car a "TC" even though it doesn't have a turbocharger? Lame.

ummm guys they are not monsters, this was not built to be a monster car, just a car that looks nice for young people, very reliable, nice sound, suspension, great interior, decent power, rims, and sporty look. I really dont like them much but for the price they are one of the best bang for the buck in the 16 and down price range, and if someone likes the car and enjoys it why criticize them.

Is that like a trademark? You say generally the same thing alot i think. Or I have at least been hearing similar lines a bunch lately.

Sure the tC's are a good bang for buck for teeny boppers; decent looking, has lotsa cool options that make it seem "customized". But I think they are still garbage. They are scions, they are slow, they are geared towards teens who seem to be into ricer styling. So............. I don't like them.

well, if i had to choose a car for $15-16K it wouldn't be scion Yc or crap like that, i would rather get a used car, with better perfomance, style...like a Volvo C70, BMW 3 series, M3, Audi A4....there're lotsa choises. i think buying a brand new car, just to be proud that you bought them BRAND NEW is way too much, easier get a certified warrantied car, that is 2-3 years old.
I think if you want gas savier, get a hybird, like echo or prius, and live your cheap life trying to proove that hybirds can go over 65mph, with 1 speed automatic transmissions.

the tc is a nice little car, but it is not to fast. i used to own a 93 318is manual and i raced a tc and got him by about 2 cls..... and my car was slow! of course that tc coulda been bone stock as well. and to all the 318 owners..... your cars are fantastic and i really enjoyed mine when i had it.

Umm, having recently graduated from highschool, some parents get their kids cars that are cheap new so that they can have the warranty. I was in a dead lock between a 4banger accord or a jetta JLI (the vw dealership near my house didnt carry the GTI, so I didnt even know it existed at the time), and we found my bimmer on a whim for about a fourth of the cost of a new car (that was the justification for getting the car without a warranty, we could buy it twice over and still be ahead five grand). If we hadn't and that tC was around, I would have jumped all over it with a smile. They could slap another 2-3k onto the price tag and still sell it by the droves.

Nothing wrong a scion. More reliable than a bmw and better gas milage == good transportation. At $12500 I'm considering getting one since I drive alot. With 38 mpg what I save in gas money a month (vs the M3) would be enough to cover the car payment.

Wow, divide that up into paragraphs and maybe less elipces.

I'll summarize that long 7even post:

He owns a 1985 7 series that runs 11.1 w/ spray, 12.2 w/o. He has a friend w/ a scion TC that he has or is planning to do everything to (turbocharge, exhaust, chip, intake, suspension, ect...). He'll let us know when he's finished. His # is 813-431-1950 and he lives in Tampa if you want to race him.

That's all the important stuff.

who really has time for grammer.....

this is not collage this is internet posting ....

anyways back to reality got nothing else better to do then to question grammer after all that I said that is all you had to say is my grammer ....LOL....

anyways Iam going to post some pics of my Blue pits and the ride after it is finished on friday to answer some questions....TC is touring Coupe of course like most cars like gt tc gtr srt they all have the same meaning usually for someone to think it means Turbo Charged thats funny to me......

anyways Iam not a scion lover I just like my boys car and since I help everyone in town with there car why not my best friend ...dont get me wrong if I had a choice of an M5 or a Tc of course what sane person would pick the Tc over an M5....

but like I read yes it is good for the money got to admit....My boy got his for 17,500 out the door thats including financing the whole nine yards you cant beat that ....spend about 5 grand more and you got a 12 second car that gets over 20 miles to the gallon.....atleast I can do it anyways....

wish I can say the same about my 7even it gets 9 to the gallon

yo if anyone wants to see my car run it is at streetracers dot and teh c word....know what I mean....we have about 9 dvd's nation wide Iam the blue 7even beating every honda that comes next to me.....so far anyways I pick and choose why break up a good record 22-4 ....lost to an M3 turbo...3000gt turbo....WRX STI....an a S2000

I have a friend who has a manual tC for his daily driver and I've driven it.
