View Full Version : 328i vs. 3000GT
addnon 08-16-2005, 06:53 PM Was chillin at a stop light with three of my buddies, talkin about how shitty the weather was at the moment, when this bright red 3000GT pulls up next to us. We look over, guy is revvin it gently, so I figure what the hell...I need some fun tonight. Light turns green, I take care not to punch right it from the start since its pretty slick right now. I look over I see the guy hydroplanting like crazy...I easily pass him. Put around maybe 3 car lengths on him.. He catches up, there is a car infront of him and there is a slight turn coming.. he cuts me off! Well anyways I decided not to play anymore since 2 of my friends were freakin out..
mixed feelins about this race... :confused
Carhopper 08-16-2005, 06:57 PM Must not have been a VR4. 0-60 in 5.2s stock. I had a stealth TT (same as VR4) and with a boost controller and intake you can easily take it up to 370hp at the crank. That was the fastest car I have owned, but the understeer was terrible and road noise was bad too.
addnon 08-16-2005, 06:59 PM definetly not a VR4, I think it was a base, didnt have a SL badge
shmoo 08-16-2005, 07:07 PM Yeah, VR4 has 320HP and would eat you alive.
This is the hierachy of the Japanese sports car of the 90s
Supra Twin turbo>300ZXTwin turbo >3000GT Twin turbo

Still feels good to beat such a racey looking car though. I don't know why they bothered making the base model with a 180hp engine in a 3,800lb car. Maybe the base was a little lighter, but not a fast car by any standard.
Kinda like my 91 300ZX NA. I sold it shortly after I got beat by a modified 240sx. Power to weight ratio is almost the same as the M3, but just goes to show you that peak horsepower doesn't mean shit.

And by beat, you mean lose to?

Anyway, nice race in the rain. More balls than me (and your friends, 'parantly)...

this guy obviously wasn't gonna stop, so I had 2 slam my brakes and let him pass

Well, that goes the same why they made V6 mustangs.
Answer: Girls want to look cool like guys but can't handle the HP

Uhh, durrrrrr! The base wasn't AWD and the first year they put the SOHC in the 3000GT the car weighed about 3,200 pounds. My Stealth weighed 3,160 pounds with the 222 hp DOHC engine. It'd kick the sushi out of most BMW I6s. I'd probably be able to launch it better with FWD than most RWD bimmer driver's too. It topped out at a legit 150 mph, so it wasn't slow up top either.
People should be banned from discussing the 3000GT or any variant of it on this board because the ignorance is just too high.
