I'm cruisin down the highway today and this nice looking Yellow Monte SS is coming on the entrance ramp in front of me. He had a nice little body kit and sounded like he had an exhaust. I pull up next to him and I see a Supercharged SS tag on the side. I figured he would probably take me, but I was feelin a bit restless. He looked over and I gave him a nod. He nodded back and we both took off at the same time. I was already in 4th gear ready to go, he was in an automatic, so I instantly put his front bumper even with my back. He was hanging right there for a bit. Around 85 I started to pull ever so slightly. 100 came and I started pulling harder. When I hit 5th gear I had about 1 1/2 car lengths on him. When we finally started slowing down, we were goin about 130 and I had about 3 car lengths on him. :buttrock This was an unexpected victory for sure. I know he had more power than me. I think stock they have 240HP. My car has a couple mods that maybe give me about 210HP. It was a fun race though. He followed me off of the exit ramp and I think he wanted to go again, but there was traffic. I took my turn to go home and waved, he waved back. I bet his pride was hurt a bit though after dropping $30,000 and getting taken.

You know I was wondering about those SS'. I had never seen one race before. Good kill.

That is a lot of gain for a couple mods on a 10 year old car that turned under 190hp when brand new. Engines get weaker with use! :rolleyes

What hosepower adding mods ya got???
:confused

a few nos stickers, they definately give ~20hp, then you know the usual wing, stuff like that.
It says he has I/C/E since you can't read

20 crank hp is believable from thos mods.

But i too was unsure how those Monte's fared on the road. I've only seen them driven around where the owner thought they were in a race car, but they never got on it.

Was this one of the new Monte Carlo SS cars or an older one? The new ones don't come supercharged, but a blower off of a Bonneville or GP GTE would probably work fine....same motor. Either way, good kill.

Tom, just curious, what about those Dale Earndhart Jr. edition SS Monte Carlos, are those any good or just have a fancy paint job?

All them jokers are slower than dog poo. The Pontiacs with the blower motors have potential, otherwise that whole series is just worthless as far as performance cars go.

NOW....that being said, that 3800 Series II 6 cyl in those cars is likely the best motor GM has ever made (other than the LS1 of course, which funny enough, that motor is nothing more than an LS1 missing 2 cylinders). Ive seen some of those with WELL over 200k of hard miles and going strong. Very very tough motor. The blower cars come from the factory usually pulling anywhere from 2-6 deg of knock retard ( :eyecrazy ) and they just keep going and going and going. Then you get joe-streetracer-wannabe drops an intake and a 3/10ths smaller pulley on that thing and that rockets up to 5-10 deg of KR, again, they just keep going and going and going.

It was an 05' Monte SS, and they are supercharged. They made the supercharger off of the GTP available on the 05' Super Sport Montes. The 06 SS has a FWD V8.

Ive only got 85,000 miles on her. She's just getting broken in. :)

Cool, that is low mileage. You are right, just getting broken in. Those 325s always suprise me. Same HP as the later 2.8 motors. Gotta love that straight six...

Yeah, I love the inline 6. I have been pretty impressed with the motor since I got it, especially on the highway. It doesn't have enough on the lower RPM range though.

How long have you been running juice? I have thought about it, but I figured it was too hard on the motor for long term use. How often do you use it? Have you had any damage to your motor from it?

My roommate had an 02 Monte Carlo SS until he crashed it a month or so ago. However, when we raced it was no contest at all. I wouldn't even make it to third gear before I shut it down. (This is with the 3.15 diff, not the 3.91 as listed in sig). My roommate still liked it though, cause hed still destroy the civics around here which was enough for him.

I used to own a monte. It was a decent car, but my 325 is much quicker. The SS I raced the other day was an 05 when they released the supercharged version. They have an extra 40 HP.

Ugly though....not a big fan of the monte body style. Any response about how long you've been running nitrous, 98328I?

Yeah, I got a little sick of the body style on the monte, and it was just slow. I wasn't even really looking to buy a car when I found my bimmer. I saw it and I fell in love. :rolleyes

The s/c'd MC SS's run 0-60 in 6.5/6.6 and are lucky to see 14's.

The 3.8L in my old '90 Buick Park Avenue went 220k miles strong. Probably still going somewhere as a taxi cab. I dunno. I traded it in. My dad's got an '01 Buick Park Avenue Ultra, and it goes pretty good for a boat. The supercharger really brings that engine to life. Would be nice to see Buick bring the Gran National back with a turbo charged alluminum 3.8L. Then again only old farts buy Buick anymore, so I doubt they wanna deal with obnoxious 40 year olds and 50 year olds window shopping for a 400hp Grand National. :stickoutt

Learn something new every day. I didn't know they started putting the blowers on those cars....good for them...they needed a blower. Ive seen some of those GTPs and such running 12's with some serious mods, but stock bottom end. As Dave said, stock they aren't anything crazy.

You can't be serious. The LS1 and the Buick 3800 have absolutely nothing in common.
