View Full Version : Engine rebuild thoughts - carbs & intake Cam etc

This 75 needs an engine rebuild and I'm trying to plan it out.

I've got this weber 36/36DCD which I'm thinking will probably be pretty good. I'm trying to match it to an intake: I've got three different ones to choose from.

1 without EGR coupling and 2 with. The EGRs are marked 1259773A and 1259773B while the non-EGR is 1262379 SICU

I don't need EGR so I could block that off, or use the non-EGR. The intake tubes (?) are longer on the EGRs so I don't know if that would matter. Are these all basically the same? I plan on polishing and doing the peanut trick on the intake (grinding out the 2 into 1). They are all three slighly different so I'm just curious if one is superior over any other for the 36/36

Also I'll probably get a 292 reground cam from Ireland -- or some other one if I can find a good deal.

THen hook that up to tii header and standard exhaust. My goal is to build an m10 with a little more zip that is quiet and reliable.

Any obvious flaws with this ? I know the DCD is kind of rare .. I don't see a lot of info when doing searches.

cheers

sounds like a good combo to me. Are you upping the compression? Unless you raise it to ~9.5:1 I would go with a more moderate cam profile. 284 would be good.

I dont think that there are any significant differences in flow between the manifolds you have, but what do I know? Ive never even heard of a 36/36DCD before ;)

hmm. ya I'm debating if I want to get some higher comp pistons. I don't have gobs of cash at the moment. Been reading about shaving the head down a bit to up the compression. It seems like that is a double edged sword.

I'm trying to find out how much you can shave safely and not screw everything up :)

Unless some new pistons fall out of the sky -- that would be cool

talking with Jeff Ireland he says

The 292 should work fine. BAD idea to mill the head to get more compression. The head should be cleaned the minimum amount -- like ..005 to .010"

I think i'll take his word for it and go with the 292 and stock pistons

I got down tothe shop and looked at the cam I've got.

Its marked 12106100802 985B(8?) . It doesn't match realoem.com for the year so I assume its not stock. Now I'm trying to figure out what it is .. for all I know I already have a 292 !!

Any ideas?
