Can someone give me the low down on which model years these wheels appeared? Mclarenbenz 08-13-2005, 01:34 AM Il just give you a General Idea, cause im not 100% sure on exact details. The first ones you posted come standard on 2001-2002 540's with the M-sport package. The second ones come on all 2001-2003 non sport package 540's. The third ones come on older 540's, I believe 98's and 99's (I think only on 6-speed models) and the last ones came pretty mutch on all 99-2001 non sport models. Keep in mind I just finished off my 5th beer, so I could be wrong. :stickoutt aznplayaflavah 08-13-2005, 02:41 AM the second ones were an option on the 2000 Sport model with the Tiptronic the third ones came on all sport models from 97-99 CobaltFire 08-13-2005, 03:53 AM The first ones are a later model (2001+) Sport wheel, Style 66. I don't know about other years. And by far the best looking of the bunch imo Philboski 07-07-2006, 01:54 PM Maybe they did something different for Canada? I've got the Style 19s on my 97 540i 6. Couldn't say for sure. I was actually wondering why mine aren't staggered either, but I guess that was an option or something. Like a green interior! On the plus side, the Style 5s are my favourite of the 17s. And I have a nice set of 16 inch Borbets for winter. Brewtech 07-07-2006, 02:03 PM mIne are style 5's and are pretty much standard on 1997-2000 528 sport models. PixMan 07-07-2006, 09:11 PM My 2002 530i/A Sport came to ME with Styling 81's on it. What year/model did they come from? The FelgenKatalog.auto-treff.com site says they're from an E39 M 5er, but they don't have the ///M logo on them (that I could see.) They look like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/kenm10759/BMW%20530i/50sm.jpg Who knows exactly which year & model they originally appeared? strayv 07-07-2006, 11:30 PM Those are sharp, and different Pixman. I haven't seen those before. jonmcc 07-08-2006, 12:10 AM pixman those are the standard sport pkg wheels on 2002/2003 525s. The style 5 wheels came on 1998-2000 528 sports (theres no 97 528 sport) and only the 2001 525 sport. So whoever had your car before you swapped out the 2 piece sport wheels that came on it and got the ones on it now which are not nearly common :) e_schickdu 07-08-2006, 02:54 AM My '00 540/6 sport has the first. what he said :) nightkrawler 07-08-2006, 05:10 AM anyone want to trade wheels? i have the style 19's. PixMan 07-08-2006, 06:56 AM Thanks for clarifying about the wheels on my car. At first I wasn't sure I'd keep them, but as I look around, I find that I agree on the rarity of them. Plus, they are super-easy to clean. That's a good thing because whatever pads someone put on this car, they are the biggest dirt generators I've seen this side of a south Texas dust storm. About the only thing that will change my mind is if I get a good deal on some true 2-piece forged wheels. The roads up here suck, and my car is in the shop right now for a "post-sale punch list" (it a CPO used one.) The car has a slight vibration in it from about 62 to 78 mph. Turns out the BMW dealer found 3 of the 4 wheels had flat spots, and they are gettng them straightened. If I see ANY signs of a hack job on this, they're buying me NEW wheels, damn it. crown14 07-08-2006, 12:46 PM I have the style 19's on my car and they dont look like much in photos, but are much better in person. I cant find anywhere that I can buy them though, and my clearcoat is coming off around the lips, so I might be interested in getting another set. jonmcc 07-08-2006, 02:42 PM interesting about the flat spots in your wheels. Let me know how that goes b/c my 530 also has a vibration around that speed (72-78 for me) and I just figured my tires weren't perfectly balanced, but come to think of it they vibrated before I had my new tires on too, so I dunno I've never really thought about it... crown there's a website that sells OEM replica wheels in stye 19 for $350/ea. A couple of my friends have ordered wheels from them and they look identical to factory. I'm sure they're a couple lbs heavier than OEM but they seem to be good quality and they look awesome, hope this helps... lakeshorewheelandtire.com exmaxima1 07-08-2006, 09:24 PM pixman those are the standard sport pkg wheels on 2002/2003 525s. The style 5 wheels came on 1998-2000 528 sports (theres no 97 528 sport) and only the 2001 525 sport. Are you sure? My neighbor's 2002 525iT (wagon) came with Style 5 wheels. Matthew jonmcc 07-09-2006, 04:19 AM Matthew I'm sure about all that I said when talking about sedans, I didn't even think about the wagons since I never pay attention to them :( so that's my fault But after doing a little research and looking on ebay I ended up being correct, even the sport pkg wagons stopped having the style 5's after 2001. In 2002/2003 the sport sedans and wagons were *supposed* to come with the 7-spoke style 81's ("the star wheels") according to BMW World. But I will say that I honestly have no idea what's going on with the 2002 wagons. On ebay there's a 02 sport pkg wagon with the non-sport wheels and matching non-sport spare, and another 02 with the style 81's, and all of the 03 wagons on ebay have the style 81's like theyre supposed to. And if your neighbor has the style 5's there's no denying that so I seriously give up on the wagons haha, and here's the conclusion I've come to on the 525iT's w/ sport pkg: 2001 - style 5 as it should be 2002 - style 81 *supposedly* but who knows, maybe whatever style was sitting around the factory at the time haha... 2003 - style 81 as it should be exmaxima1 07-09-2006, 08:47 AM And if your neighbor has the style 5's there's no denying that so I seriously give up on the wagons haha, and here's the conclusion I've come to on the 525iT's w/ sport pkg: You may be correct, and my neighbor may think he has a 2002 since that is when he bought it. It may be a 2001 that was sold late in the model year and he forgot. Thanks for the extensive information. Matthew |
