View Full Version : Contemplating a job in Culver City... where to live?

Looking at my options, but I'm thinking about taking a job up in Culver City with a small tax accounting firm. What are the decent areas in that vicinity? How much will a 1-bedroom apt in that area cost me? What neighborhoods are within, say, 15 minutes of that area?

Office would be right around Venice Blvd and the 405/Sepulveda.

Culver city is basically between West L.A, Inglewood, Westchester, Mar Vista and Marina del rey. Its a decent area that has both its nicer parts and its ghetto parts. For a 1 bed room you probally looking at $950+ but really your in the middle of everthing kind of so its nice. Beverly hills, Malibu, sunset, hollywood and Downtown are all 15 minutes away.

traffic like mofo there.... I have a couple of friends that live in Culver city and I hate going there during the week (especially around 3-7pm). Sometimes it takes me about 1 hour to do a 10 minute no traffic drive. I suggest you go take a look at the 10 and the 405 around that time to see what I'm talking about.

BaLLZacK is correct about the rest. Some area's are really pricey though.

(oh.. Santa Monica is close to there also.)

I'm thinking Mar Vista at this point... Would be nice to have a roommate to split some of the costs, but I don't really know anyone in (that part of) LA. Went to UCLA, but that was 3 years ago, most everybody's gone by now.

Tim.

I live in Sherman Oaks and work in Culver City. It's a 12 mile drive to work from where I live.

Rent is anywhere from 900.00-1400.00 for a one bedroom in Sherman Oaks.

If you need more advice PM me.

Just wondering how long that 12 mile drives takes, its probally not a good idea to live sherman oaks and work in culver city. Im guessing a minimum of an hour each way, unless you leave home at 6 in the morning.

tc535i-

O yea the beach is real close aswell as UCLA but you knew that. Mar vista is probably the best location for low rent or inglewood, which is always up to no good. Good lucK

I live in Marina Del Rey. Work in Playa Vista (Chiat\Day). Culver is just a few streets over from the office.

Marina Del Rey is pricey. $1500 and up for a decent 1bd/1ba. Same goes for Playa Vista. Playa Del Rey is not bad, but can be expensive as well since it is closer to the ocean. Culver has nice pockets. You really have to drive to the potential places and eyeball it. Traffic can be a handful, even more reason to live near work.

If you don't mind driving a ways to work (some people need a certain amount of seperation from work and home) look into El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, and Redondo Beach. If you're close to the coast, you can take Vista Del Mar along the coast... nice lazy drive along the beach and follow it in to Jefferson Blvd (just below LMU) and on to Culver.

I am looking to move around late Oct., but I'm a boring old fart and not really into the roomie thing. Check Craigslist.com. Lots of listings there. Rent.com is alright too.

Avoid Braddock Vista Apts in Culver. The guy who runs the place seems very shady.

I think I'd want to live close to work. I'm over LA traffic, already did it for two years.

I don't really like "LA People" (no offense to the LA crew)... everybody just seems "angry"... it's sad. I don't want to live with some random person off Craigslist... I want to live in a place where I can keep my belongings (worth some value) and feel secure.

Umm... did you even check craigslist out? It's more than "roommates wanted" listings.

If you live in LA, you'd be angry too. It's just too dense. Barely put your elbows out and you've bumped someone and everyone has something to prove. The other day I thought I was going to be shot just a block from work when two G-wannabes pulled out into the road without looking and nearly wiped me out. I tapped my horn just as a warning to let them know that they did not have the road to themselves and they looked at me like I was the one who had a problem. Not even here for a year and I'm already tired of putting up with other people's bs.

Thanks, but I know what Craigslist is, I sold my last car on there ~2 months ago.

I just don't like the idea of living with a random stranger... especially if that stranger is an "LA" person.

Uh... yeah ok. When you said that before it sounded like you were saying that all listings on craigslist were people looking for roommates.

I have a buddy who lives just north of LAX off of Lincoln and he works in Venice. The commute for him isn't too bad. Why don't you look near Westchester. I know people are going to say that it is full of gangs and what not, but there are the nice parts as well.

Plus you're close to Randy's Donuts.

If you go to Westechester, be sure to be north of Manchester and West of Sepulveda.
That's a nice area. Problem is, it's boring. Just young families with kids. Or clueless Loyola students
starting college life... Then again, I don't know what demographics you fall into.

Personally, I would move to Marina del Rey or Playa del Rey.
Figure $1500 to $2500 for a nice one bedroom in Marina, and $1000 to $1500 in Playa.
Those are the nicest areas in my opinion. Especially the Marina Peninsula (south of Washington).
I had a house front line on the beach in Playa and boy were those fun times.
And Playa is fun. Lots of bars and hangout places, cool 25-40 crowd (beach laidback people) and wonderfully located-- near LAX and the beach.
Also, very affordable. I know Playa very well if you need more info.

if you're scared of "LA PEOPLE" LA is definitely not the place for you.

I don't really mind them, I just don't want to live with one of them at random.

Culver City is actually pretty nice. Great community feel, very seperated from "Los Angeles", even tho it's right in the middle of it. Quiet neighborhoods, lots of familys, and a nice downtown... not the stereotypical LA.
