View Full Version : Modded Z3 2.8 vs. Modded Mistubishi Lancer RalliArt

Coming back from work yesterday, I see this Mistubishi Lancer RalliArt behind me.

We don't have the Evo here, so the RalliArt is the high end Lancer here. It's not too shabby though. 2.4 l, roughly 165 or so hp and torque. This guy is riding my butt convict-style, so I figured a) he's gonna race and b) he's gonna give me a good run, similar to/better than a Civic Si (which has just as much HP but less torque).

Not taking chances, I put it in 3rd, I'm going 70-75, and I wait for the car in the left lane to move over.

He does, I don't mash but gently floor the fun pedal, and the race is on!!! :alright

My SuperTrapp scream as I expect to rip this guy a new one.

Huh... what's going on... 3rd gear is over, lightning quick shift to 4th... I can't shake him off... :confused

Speed builds up... the guy is still there. I was expecting him to disappear once I hit 4th gear... nope...

We went all the way to roughly 114-117 mph from 75 or so, and I probably gained only like 1 to 1.5 car lengths or so on the guy.

Hard to tell because he was in my rear view, but still... I slowed down for my exit, and when he passed me, he gave me a very enthusiastic thumbs up.

I realized it was beautifully modded : lowered, white, very nice black/charcoal rims with polished lip, big exhaust (must've had i/h/e). I went to take my exit, but then, changed my mind, and ran after him (I wanted to ask him what his mods were).

When he saw me, he rev-matched and punched it. That thing sounded mean. It's obvious that this wasn't your typical 1.6 l ricer motor with cheap fart can. Then again, the distance between us stayed basically the same. We went again, but he kinda mis-engaged his gear and it made a crunching sound, so I beat him pretty bad (he...he...he... owned!)

I passed him when he had to brake, and we exchanged thumbs up again.

He kinda motioned me to keep going after him, but I really had to take the next exit...

So damn, these little cars are pretty damn quick, I had no idea. I guess he had most bolt-ons in the book, but still, so do I...

I need more power dammit. I need a true exhaust line to free up those horses.

excellent run, sometimes those 4 bangers will surprise u. had it happen to me before as well. i ran a white integra type R with some mods and i couldnt shake him by much either.

pulled on a car in third and lost half back in fourth and started to pull again in 5th ended up on winning by 1 car to car an a half.

Someone needs a turbo :D From the mods you listed I'm surprised you didn't stomp him! He must really of had some stuff done to his car. Great type up by the way! It was like reading a suspenseful story.

I know man, I was expecting to rape him. Never happened. Sure, I won alright, but you know...not by enough. I guess from a dig I would destroy him, heck, I managed to beat that Cobalt SS, yet it's rated faster than my car, but at those speeds, he was quick.

Edit : I looked it up : they have 162 claimed hp, yet they dyno at 157 to the wheels. Not bad.

Yeah, the Ralliart is definitely a respectable little sedan. The regular Lancer is a turd though. :)

Hugo, you keep barely holding your lead. Pretty soon, you are going to be teh sux0rs. You need to boost your car. Get a better exhaust, get a better car. Sumptin. You're struggling here. ;)

True exhaust line 'eh. I think what you need is one a them spinnin' mufflers, damn the exhaust line. Maybe a GT28R, spool up with the quickness, make good peak power. You'll be coming down to the states to hunt down Evo's, to hell with the Lancers.

how are they better than Evos? What is your reasoning? Is it looks or performance?

Hugo

They look better. They get raped by Evos, hell, they're down over 100 hp.

But I never liked the Evo's shape, it looked dated from day one. And those Altezzas, yuck... This one has Altezzas, but the overall shape is smoother, more modern.

I think the altezzas are effing gay. The Evo looks more boy racer, but looks "sportier" due to that, IMO. I don't like that ralliart. It's "modern" look is a bit too bubbly and the car looks kind of fat for it's size. it may not weigh alot, but it looks fat. But that is my opinion.

no joke, I had some kid stare me down from a lancer today. I wasn't interested in the slightest.

Hugo - man, if you want to hold off those 4 bangers any longer, your gonna need FI, the gf gave you approval, so get to it

OT - its funny how the Evo vs STi divides sooo much, I think its hilarious. I drive both in racing situations and love them both. They have some differences and alot in common. For me personally, Sti makes a better daily driver with great torque, while the Evo makes a better track car with its modability.

Let's see, I got headers already, and I,m trying to get my hands on a dirt cheap used Supersprint. I'll add a free flow cat.

I need to win the lottery and get a 3.46.

We don't have the Evo here, so the RalliArt is the high end Lancer here.

Are you for-serious? That's a first for Canada, I bet. They always get the hopped-up cars we never get.

That is true, take Nissan for example. Back in the 80s the 200sx's had ca20e or ca18et engines in the US. Yet in Canada (and austrailia) they had the almighty ka engine, which had the bulletproof bottom end which has been known to get mighty impressive power numbers.

Just thought I'd share that.. :)

Yes. It has to do with stupid crash test laws. A car has to be able to sustain like a 5 mph impact without having more than xxx$ in damages. Due to the Evo's placement of the intercooler, a measly impact destroys it and the bill skyrockets.

Since Mitsubshi didn't see it fit to build a stronger bumper for the Canadian market, we have the STi but not the Evo.

A lancer tuned by ralliart. Quite rare.

the Evo has slots in the bumper beam to allow more air to the intercooler. Some Evo guys remove the bumper beam to lighten and get a huge intercooler in there. (Thats really not needed unless you want to make stupid amounts of power because there are other good intercoolers that will fit within the bumpber beam.)

I had the front bumper off of an Evo this weekend and its surprising that it can do that amount of damage. It may be that it deflacts the bumper beam and that is enough to drive the $$ up not neccesarily an impact with the intercooler.

I know!! The impact destroys the front undertray and it costs $$ to replace the eleventy billion pop-its on that tray :mad
