My question is what kind of gas mileage have you seen in the 4.4i and the 4.8is (i know on the test drive I was only averaging 4.5mpg on the 4.8 and I was not driving it hard)

depends on what model year you're talking about. In general, 2000-2004 get worst gas mileage than the current models. I have an 02 4.4 and get 16.5 mpg.

For the current models, they're around 19-20 for all models.

You're probably not doing anything wrong, I just end up driving highways most often. The 16.5 mpg is a combined avg. I spend most of my time driving to different golf courses in the MD area, so not a lot of stop-and-go traffic.
