View Full Version : Rims are expensive...
WTA123 08-09-2005, 06:56 PM I had no idea how much rims could possibly be. As you know Im looking for some 15X7(Or in that range) rims for my turbo flare install. I have been looking all over the place, at a variety of rims. I thought I would try some panasports, since I like that vintage look. I thought they were the affordable version of minilites. I got quoted today for 250 a rim, not including tires. Thats a thousand dollars right there, half of what I paid for my car. I would hate to see how much miniltes are. If anyone has anything for sale, or who knows of any classic looking rims, be contact me.
Thanks
Edit: The quote was for 14 inch rims too. The 15's are special order, so they probably would have been even more.
K Funk 08-09-2005, 07:12 PM How about Chapparals?
http://www.rspeed.net/miata/Subcat.asp?dept=7&cat=18
There are a couple nice ones shown for miatas on that site. I'm not sure what kind of offset 02s have, but they're the same bolt pattern as miatas.
WTA123 08-09-2005, 08:31 PM Those are cool. Ill look into them. Thanks for the help. I forgot about those konig rewinds as well. They are the wrong offset however, if I remember correctly.
Edit; I forgot about superlites. Ill have to check them. I just checked watanabe's wheels, and they are going for 400 each :confused

you would need 20-30mm spacers to run miata wheels on an 02 with flares.
yup. wide, vintage wheels are $$
WTA123 08-09-2005, 09:01 PM ^^^ But they would, "in theory" work?
K Funk 08-09-2005, 09:23 PM I was just suggesting them as a company to 'look into,' but I couldn't find a place online that sells them. A google search for Chaparral wheel related stuff turns up a whole mess of other racing stuff (including an interesting read on the Chaparral 2J's fan powered suction downforce system).
If you could find a better website for that company, you might be able to see if they have more suitable wheels for the 02. RSpeed only sells miata stuff.
I've actually got borrowed miata wheels on my 02 right now, as a friend let me borrow them so I could get it thru safety inspection. They've got all-season tires on them that he's been using for drifting in his miata. But actually, I think the wheels are originally from an Acura Integra.
In any case, its not that noticeable of a difference, except that it looks ghetto off-road fabulous now because the tires are 185/60/14s.
A 2-3 cm spacer would be a might big spacer tho, if you wanted perfection. Also, it doesn't look like those chaparral miata wheels have room for the hub in the center, as the 02 hub sticks out a little.
WTA123 08-09-2005, 09:40 PM I cant seem to find a direct website either. Ill keep searching. Anyone have anything used thet want to sell? :cool

How about if you just call Rspeed and see how to contact Chaparral? They got a toll-free number.
If I had some spare money, those onyx 15s would be very nice. :cool
WTA123 08-10-2005, 08:17 AM Superlites seem like a good choice

YES!!! Cheap plus new lug nuts :buttrock
WTA123 08-10-2005, 08:54 PM I called the rspeed place and the superlites. As to the chapprall place, the guy told me to measure the inside diameter of the hub. He said that would be the area of concern, but that it can be machined out. They should work. As to the superlites, he has everthing up to and including 15X6, so 15X7 has to be made and takes a couple of weeks months etc. The Kosei's are self explanatory and are on the tirerack website
Edit: Do you think tho onyx rims would look good on a verona red turbo flare 2002? I kinda like them.
cancell 08-18-2005, 02:49 AM Have you looked at Rota RB rims? I'm planning on buying a set soon..13x8 :buttrock 4x100 et4,about 14 lbs a rim. Rota RB look just like Panasport Lites with a massive lip LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7989809865&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:US:1) to an old auction he once had when i first found the wheels
there is this guy on ebay you can get 'em from for about 500 bux shipped.
I can give you his e-mail if you're really interested, I talked to him over the phone a couple times, he lives in Cali.
BTW, i have no affiliation whatsoever with this dude, i just thought he had cool rims for the 2k2 at a good price.
WTA123 08-18-2005, 08:07 AM I actually jsut bought the asa's from the tirerack. They are a nice simple 5 spoke design, just what I was looking for. I know they are wicked cheap, but I got them tuesday, and I must say they are really nice. A bit heavy though.
WdpIan 08-18-2005, 09:50 AM Wont Borbet's work?
02stu 08-18-2005, 10:29 AM I have a set of panasport mini lights I'll sell. There are five of them but one has damaged lug holes but works fine. How does $250 sound for the set?
fjord7302 08-18-2005, 05:35 PM WTA- you never contacted me. I could have done 16" AZEV type A's for around a grand including tires. I was going to suggest a 7.5" front and 8" rear wheel so you could run a little wider tire in the back. Could've been awesome looking!

Well i can't quite install them until I install the turbo flares, which will happen tommorow. Rest assured, it will be done by Limerock. :D
