I was thinking about going with a single 12 and changing out my stock speakers. Does anyone have an alternative to the 4" rear size? I have heard that 5 1/4 would fit. Can anyone confirm this? Also, I know everyone has their own opinion about speaker brands, but what's the best value for the money? (both front components and rears). I will also be using a JVC deck. Thanks for the help.
p.s. Dogger has an excellent step by step guide on doing the sub in the ski pass. Good job Dogger!

convertibles are 5.25" in the rear, not 4". Confirmation

best value according to this board seems to be next and cdt right now. if you are running off of the new head and bypassing the factory amp, then use coaxials

you need a new amp to run new component speakers.

yep, 5.25 inch in the rear and front kick panels.

please don't ask for a good aftermarket alternative to the 2.5 inch mid in the door! :eyecrazy

My rear quarters have two speakers in them. Are they 5 1/4 two way components?

yeppers.

if you want to go simpler/cheaper, just get a set of coax's and spend more time/money on the fronts, just fill anyway.

Also, what about the DLS three way components. I can get them for $340 installed (ultimate pro series). Would that be better than JL two way?

That's an incredible price on the UP35. I paid $350 shipped to my door (obviously not installed) and thought I was getting a great deal.

I have no complaints with these components. I would get the 6.5" version if I had it to do over again, though.

How difficult is it to install 6.5 in the kick panels?

Thanks for all the ideas and advice. I have decided to go with a Pioneer P860, DLS UP35's for the front and DLS R5A's for the rear. Alphasonik will supply the power and subs. I am going to copy Rayman's sub box and put either two or three 8's in there and seal it to the pass through. For those that are curious, I'll let you know how it sounds when it is installed. Looking to have it done this weekend. Thanks again everyone.
