View Full Version : F/S 1986 Porsche 944 turbo red/black 92,000mi $11,000
lbh110 08-09-2005, 12:33 AM Alright the car you’re looking at is a 1986 (12/85 production date) Porsche 944 turbo (951). It’s red with black leather interior, has a little over 92,000 miles and has been decently maintained. Starting with the exterior, the paint is great on some panels and very poor on others. The nose is full of stone chips as are the side view mirrors. The front bumper cover is pretty beat up as well, however the fade difference between the front bumper and hood isn’t too bad. The driver’s door sill has a area of paint that has been worn off through the use of the previous owners. The driver’s side rear quarter panel has many scratches in it. The passenger side rear quarter panel has been repainted and it shows, the orange peel is still present and the quality of the paint shows up against the surrounding panels. The rear windshield wiper has been removed and plugged and the rear hatch only opens by key, the solenoid does not work. The interior is very clean, the dash has no cracks and the only huge flaws are the scratches in the driver’s seat and a few on the passenger seat and the sunroof. The trim to the sunroof is warped and a bit discontinuous. The sunroof seal is not too bad; however water leaks in and drips onto the back seat if there is a heavy downpour. The carpet is a bit faded to a shade of black / green, and there is no driver’s floor mat. The stereo has a pioneer head unit and speakers, two in the hatch carpet instead of the panels next to the rear seat. As far as the engine and mechanical side of the car, the history previous to my ownerships is a little shady. In my ownership the records have been pretty complete, including replacing the clutch, water pump, B&B exhaust headers and ANSI cat back, belts, tires, some front end bushings, brake pads, and cam cover seal within the last two years. To the best of my knowledge the car was stock until this spring. In May I installed Autothority chips and a Lindsey boost enhancer. To see pics of the car http://community.webshots.com/album/411673099zBZTuq copy and paste that, the pictures were taken after a little detail session in some intense sunlight so the color looks more orange than it does in person. I've ridden in and drove a E36 and E46 M3, my car with the chip is similar in acceleration to the E36 at this point, the E46 is still beyond it, however it is a car that responds very well to mods. Im looking into buying a E36 325 or 328 with a 5-spd because i want a car that is a little newer and i really want a bmw, with the good old straigt six :D

Thanks Tom
ziggysux 08-09-2005, 12:43 AM I've seen this car many times, and driven it a few... the seller is extremely thorough in his description of the flaws of the car, as I never noticed 99% of them, and I have quite a sharp eye. It runs beautifully, is a blast to drive, looks amazing for a car of 10 years' age, let alone 19, and it is being offered for sale by a very honest, knowledgeable individual that loves cars more than anything in the world.
z3davis 08-09-2005, 05:47 PM nice car free bump
seb928s 08-09-2005, 08:17 PM Nice looking 951 needs few things taken care of but you won't get that price for the car. Sorry to tell you this you might find a kid that doesn't know much and buys it. You already know how much maintenance can be for these cars. Good luck with the sell and if you have time to sell it that's a plus you can keep asking your price and maybe someone will bite.
lbh110 08-10-2005, 01:40 AM yea, i know the car isnt mint by any means, and im seling now b/c i cant afford paying for someone else to perform maintence. it sucks when you want to pamper your car but need to leave it outside, no garage, at school. the car sat in the lot for most of the year only getting washed once every week and a half or so, i had it at school only second semester, before that it was at my home, in the garage. i took care of the oil leak with the cam cover seal getting redone this year, and after that i decided the car was set for mods, so thats when i bought the chips/LBE. im thinking with an E36 3 the maintence will not be as needy and sitting at school for long periods of time will not effect it as much.
as for the price in the magazine 'excellence' i think they quote prices for the 944 turbos at like 6,400 for a poor '86 car to 13,800 near perfect '89, so im asking on the high side, assuming an interested buyer will talk me down some. the bottom line is i dont want to loose too much money on the car, i know i will, its unavoidable but i will hold the bid high untill i have another car on its way into the driveway.
thanks for the bump and comment
oldM3r 08-10-2005, 04:44 PM Interested but would need more information especially on the engine, they can get very costly to fix.
lbh110 08-10-2005, 08:01 PM as far as i know the engine has never been rebuilt, or really disasembled beyond getting to the clutch and waterpump. I chiped/LBE this spring because i felt the engine was in good enough condition after i took care of the oil leak when i had the cam seal redone. it doesnt use too much oil or coolant at this point, some people use quite a bit with the seals around the turbo gone bad. i run with 30wt or higher oil to keep consumption down, at this point i add maybe 1quart every 5 months or so. Im sorry i cant help you out with much more, i never had a compression test done, nor have i done much work with the engine, its idle can vary a bit based on the temp, when cold its about 800 rpm, when warm it typically stays at 1,000 and jumps to 1,300 when the A/C compressor kicks on. the thermostat goes up to the high mark when sitting in traffic after it has warmed up, after it hits that mark the fans kick on and keep the temp there until rolling again. the alternator reads at 13 volts on the gauge consitently. and finally the boost gauge and oil pressure gauge read normal, the oil looks jumpy but according to other owners thats what it does.
z3davis 08-11-2005, 07:34 AM you might want to post on www.pelicanparts.com there are more 944 fans on that site.
lbh110 08-11-2005, 09:59 AM thanks, i didnt know that they had forums on there
oldM3r 08-11-2005, 10:30 AM are you saying the car is actually leaking coolant? That could mean a VERY costly engine repair if it is leaking from an internal engine part, if the radiator or hose is leaking it is another thing. You are in Harrison, Westchester NY, you around this weekend, might be in Larchmont.
lbh110 08-11-2005, 03:11 PM probably wont be in harrison this weekend, i need to change my info on here, im on easter LI, next week ill be back there. dont worry the head gasket is fine if thats what your referring to with the coolant. i typically add coolant in the late fall, maybe a small (16 oz) water bottle full, i tend to think what happens is i fill the tank to the max line, then the car gets up to operating temp in the spring and summer, over flows a bit, then i top it off again as the seasons get colder. there were two times i had a serious coolant leak. 1) one of the heater core hoses blew on me, solution, replacing most easily reached hoses on front of block and radiator. 2) the fitting to the overflow tank on the radiator broke, i removed the radiator and fitted a make shift brass fitting in place of the broken fitting with epoxy. http://community.webshots.com/photo/411673099/411712578fcdupR thats a blurry pic of the fitting havent had any problems this whole summer with over heating or leaks
lbh110 08-13-2005, 01:50 AM ohh forgot to mention the car has been on limerock 2 times for a drivers ed event and to an auto X once
